1Yahweh sent Nathan to David. He came to him, and said to him, “There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.
1خداوند ناتان نبی را نزد داود فرستاد. ناتان نزد او رفت و گفت: «در شهری دو مرد زندگی می کردند. یکی از آن ها ثروتمند و دیگری فقیر بود.
2The rich man had very many flocks and herds,
2مرد ثروتمند رمه و گلۀ فراوان داشت.
3but the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and raised. It grew up together with him, and with his children. It ate of his own food, drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was to him like a daughter.
3اما آن شخص دیگر نادار و از مال دنیا فقط یک برۀ ماده داشت که خریده و پرورش داده بود و مثل حیوان دست آموز با او و فرزندانش نشو و نما می کرد. از کاسۀ او می خورد و از جام او می نوشید. در آغوش او می خوابید و خلاصه او را مثل دختر خود دوست داشت.
4A traveler came to the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man who had come to him, but took the poor man’s lamb, and dressed it for the man who had come to him.”
4روزی یک مسافر به خانۀ مرد ثروتمند آمد. او دلش نخواست که از گله و رمۀ خود بره ای را بگیرد و برای مهمان غذا تهیه کند، در عوض رفت و برۀ آن مرد فقیر را گرفت و آنرا کباب کرد و برای مهمان آورد.»
5David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man, and he said to Nathan, “As Yahweh lives, the man who has done this is worthy to die!
5داود از شنیدن این قصه بسیار قهر شد و به ناتان گفت: «به خداوند زنده قسم است آن شخصیکه این کار را کرد سزاوار مردن است.
6He shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity!”
6چون او برۀ آن مرد فقیر را گرفت باید چهار برابر آن را تاوان بدهد، زیرا او هیچ رحمی نداشت.»
7Nathan said to David, “You are the man. This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.
7ناتان به داود گفت: «تو همان شخص هستی و خداوند، خدای اسرائیل چنین می فرماید: «من ترا به عنوان پادشاه بنی اسرائیل برگزیدم. از دست شائول ترا نجات دادم.
8I gave you your master’s house, and your master’s wives into your bosom, and gave you the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that would have been too little, I would have added to you many more such things.
8قصر آقایت را به تو بخشیدم و زنهای او را به آغوش تو رساندم. تخت سلطنت اسرائیل و یهودا را به تو عطاء کردم. اگر همۀ اینها کم بود، من برایت زیادتر می دادم.
9Why have you despised the word of Yahweh, to do that which is evil in his sight? You have struck Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and have taken his wife to be your wife, and have slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
9پس چرا احکام مرا خوار نموده و کاری کردی که در نظر من ناپسند بود؟ زیرا اوریا را با شمشیر عمونیان بقتل رساندی و زن او را زن خود ساختی.
10Now therefore the sword will never depart from your house, because you have despised me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.’
10بنابران، شمشیر و مرگ یک تشویش همیشگی برای خانواده ات خواهد بود. زیرا که تو زن اوریا را گرفتی که زن تو بشود. و من از این کار ات بسیار ناراضی هستم.»
11“This is what Yahweh says: ‘Behold, I will raise up evil against you out of your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes, and give them to your neighbor, and he will lie with your wives in the sight of this sun.
11خداوند اضافه می کند: «من از خانوادۀ خودت کسی را بلای جانت می گردانم. و زنهایت را می گیرم و به مردم دیگر می دهم و آن ها با زنهایت در روز روشن و در ملاء عام همبستر می شوند.
12For you did it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.’”
12تو آن کار را در خفا کردی، اما کاری که من با تو می کنم در روز روشن و در حضور تمام مردم اسرائیل خواهد بود.»»
13David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against Yahweh.” Nathan said to David, “Yahweh also has put away your sin. You will not die.
13داود به گناه خود اقرار کرد و گفت: «من در برابر خداوند گناه کرده ام.» ناتان گفت: «خداوند گناهت را بخشید و بخاطر گناهی که کردی نمی میری.
14However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to Yahweh’s enemies to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die.”
14اما چون با آن کار زشت خود به دشمنان موقع دادی که به خداوند اهانت کنند، بنابران طفل تو می میرد.»
15Nathan departed to his house. Yahweh struck the child that Uriah’s wife bore to David, and it was very sick.
15ناتان این را گفت و به خانۀ خود برگشت.خداوند طفلی را که بیوۀ اوریا برای داود بدنیا آورده بود به مرض مهلکی دچار کرد.
16David therefore begged God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night on the earth.
16داود بخاطر او پیش خداوند زاری کرد که او را شفا بدهد. روزه گرفت و تمام شب بروی زمین خوابید.
17The elders of his house arose beside him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.
17ریش سفیدان قوم و خانواده اش آمدند و از او خواهش کردند که برخیزد و با آن ها نان بخورد، اما او قبول نکرد.
18It happened on the seventh day, that the child died. The servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead; for they said, “Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he didn’t listen to our voice. How will he then harm himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?”
18بعد در روز هفتم طفل مرد و خادمان داود از ترس به او نگفتند که طفل مرده است. آن ها گفتند: «او در حالیکه طفل مریض بود آنقدر غم و غصه داشت و حالا اگر بداند که طفل مرده است چه خواهد کرد؟ ممکن است بخود صدمه ای برساند.»
19But when David saw that his servants were whispering together, David perceived that the child was dead; and David said to his servants, “Is the child dead?” They said, “He is dead.”
19اما وقتی داود دید که آن ها در گوش یکدیگر آهسته حرف می زنند، فهمید که طفلش مرده است. بنابران از آن ها پرسید: «آیا طفل مرده است؟» آن ها جواب دادند: «بلی، مرده است.»
20Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the house of Yahweh, and worshiped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he ate.
20آنگاه داود از روی زمین برخاست. حمام کرد، عطر زد و لباس پاک پوشید. بعد به عبادتگاه برای عبادت خداوند رفت. از آنجا به خانه آمد و گفت که برایش غذا بیاورند. غذا را آوردند پیش رویش گذاشتند و او خورد.
21Then his servants said to him, “What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive; but when the child was dead, you rose up and ate bread.”
21خادمانش تعجب کرده پرسیدند: «ما نمی فهمیم! وقتیکه طفل زنده بود تو روزه گرفتی و گریه کردی. حالا که او مرده است آمدی و نان می خوری.»
22He said, “While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, ‘Who knows whether Yahweh will not be gracious to me, that the child may live?’
22داود گفت: «وقتیکه طفل هنوز زنده بود، روزه گرفتم و گریه کردم، زیرا امیدوار بودم که شاید خداوند بر من مهربان شود و طفل شفا یابد.
23But now he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.”
23اما حالا که او مرده است، چرا روزه بگیرم؟ آیا امکان دارد که او را باز آورم؟ من پیش او می روم، ولی او پیش من باز نمی گردد.»
24David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her, and lay with her. She bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Yahweh loved him;
24سپس داود زن خود، بَتشِبَع را تسلی داد و با او همبستر شد. بعد از مدتی بَتشِبَع پسری بدنیا آورد و او را سلیمان نامید. خداوند او را دوست داشت،
25and he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he named him Jedidiah, for Yahweh’s sake.
25به همین سبب ناتان نبی را فرستاد تا سلیمان را یَدِیدیا، یعنی «محبوب خداوند» لقب دهد.
26Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the children of Ammon, and took the royal city.
26در عین حال یوآب با عمونیان جنگید و می خواست رَبه، پایتخت شانرا تصرف کند
27Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah. Yes, I have taken the city of waters.
27و پیامی برای داود فرستاده گفت: «من با عمونیان جنگیدم و شهر رَبه را که ذخیرۀ آب آن ها است تصرف کردم.
28Now therefore gather the rest of the people together, and encamp against the city, and take it; lest I take the city, and it be called after my name.”
28پس حالا بقیۀ سپاه را بفرست و کار را تمام کن تا فتح و ظفر بنام تو ختم شود نه بنام من.»
29David gathered all the people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought against it, and took it.
29پس داود همۀ سپاه را جمع کرده به رَبه رفت، جنگید و آنرا بکلی تصرف کرد.
30He took the crown of their king from off his head; and its weight was a talent of gold, and in it were precious stones; and it was set on David’s head. He brought out the spoil of the city, exceeding much.
30تاج پادشاه شانرا که وزن آن سی و چهار کیلو از طلای خالص و دارای جواهر بود از سرش گرفت و بر سر خود گذاشت و غنیمت بسیار زیاد و قیمتی را با خود برد.مردم شهر را به غلامی گرفت تا با اره، تیشه و تبر برای شان کار کنند و کارگران داشهای خشت باشند. به همین ترتیب، با همه شهرهای عمونیان رفتار کرد. بعد داود و سپاهش به اورشلیم برگشتند.
31He brought out the people who were therein, and put them under saws, and under iron picks, and under axes of iron, and made them pass through the brick kiln: and he did so to all the cities of the children of Ammon. David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
31مردم شهر را به غلامی گرفت تا با اره، تیشه و تبر برای شان کار کنند و کارگران داشهای خشت باشند. به همین ترتیب، با همه شهرهای عمونیان رفتار کرد. بعد داود و سپاهش به اورشلیم برگشتند.
