1There was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David sought the face of Yahweh. Yahweh said, “It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he put to death the Gibeonites.”
1در دوران سلطنت داود یک قحطی پیدا شد که برای سه سال دوام کرد. پس داود پیش خداوند دعا کرد و خداوند به جواب دعای او فرمود: «این قحطی نتیجۀ گناه شائول و خاندان او است که جِبعونی ها را کشتند.»
2The king called the Gibeonites, and said to them (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn to them: and Saul sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah);
2بنابران شاه جِبعونی ها را بحضور خود فراخواند. (جِبعونی ها از قوم اسرائیل نبودند، بلکه گروهی از باقیماندۀ اموریان بودند. بنی اسرائیل قسم خورده بودند که هیچگاهی شمشیر بروی شان نکشند. اما شائول بخاطر تعصبات ملی قصد کشتن آن ها را کرد.)
3and David said to the Gibeonites, “What shall I do for you? And with what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of Yahweh?”
3داود از آن ها پرسید: «چه می خواهید که برای شما بکنم تا گناه ما بخشیده شود و از خداوند بخواهید که به ما برکت بدهد؟»
4The Gibeonites said to him, “It is no matter of silver or gold between us and Saul, or his house; neither is it for us to put any man to death in Israel.” He said, “Whatever you say, that will I do for you.”
4آن ها جواب دادند: «ما از شائول و خاندان او نقره و طلا نمی خواهیم و نه خیال انتقام را داریم که کسی از مردم اسرائیل کشته شود.» پادشاه پرسید: «پس چه می خواهید؟»
5They said to the king, “The man who consumed us, and who devised against us, that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the borders of Israel,
5آن ها گفتند: «برای ما هفت پسر شائول را بده تا آن ها را در حضور خداوند، در شهر شائول که برگزیدۀ خداوند بود بدار بیاویزیم، زیرا شائول مردم ما را از بین برد و نقشۀ تباهی ما را کشید و می خواست که ما در سرزمین اسرائیل بهره ای نداشته باشیم.» پادشاه قبول کرد و گفت: «آن ها را به شما می دهم.»
6let seven men of his sons be delivered to us, and we will hang them up to Yahweh in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Yahweh.” The king said, “I will give them.”
6اما پادشاه مفیبوشت، پسر یُوناتان را نداد، بخاطریکه داود و یُوناتان بحضور خداوند قسم خورده بودند.
7But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Yahweh’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.
7بنابران دو پسر رِزِفه را که برای شائول بدنیا آورده بود، یعنی ارمونی و مفیبوشت و پنج پسر میراب، دختر شائول را که برای عدرئیل پسر بَرزِلای محولاتی بدنیا آورده بود
8But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she bore to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite.
8به دست جِبعونی ها تسلیم کرد. آن ها همه را در حضور خداوند بر آن کوه بدار آویختند و هر هفت نفر شان یکجا هلاک شدند. روزیکه آن ها را کشتند مصادف با شروع موسم درو جو بود.
9He delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the mountain before Yahweh, and all seven of them fell together. They were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, at the beginning of barley harvest.
9بعد رِزِفه، دختر اَیَه نمدی را گرفت و بروی صخره ای برای خود انداخت. و در تمام موسم درو تا به روزیکه باران بارید در آنجا ماند تا جنازۀ دو پسرش از چنگال و نول مرغان هوا در روز و از چنگ و دندان حیوانات وحشی در شب در امان باشند.
10Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her on the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water was poured on them from the sky. She allowed neither the birds of the sky to rest on them by day, nor the animals of the field by night.
10وقتی داود خبر شد که رِزِفه چه کرده است،
11It was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.
11به مردان خود هدایت داد که استخوان های آن ها را جمع کنند و ضمناً چند نفر را به یابیش جلعاد فرستاد و از مقامات آنجا تقاضا کرد که استخوانهای شائول و یُوناتان را برایش بفرستند. آن ها اجساد شائول و یُوناتان را از میدان عمومی در بیت شان دزدیده بودند. (فلسطینی ها آندو را بعد از آنکه در سر کوه جِلبوع کشتند، به آن میدان آوردند و آویزان کردند.) وقتی استخوانها را آوردند آن ها را با استخوانهای هفت نفر دیگر در قبرستان قیس، پدر شائول در شهر صیلع، در قلمرو بنیامین دفن کردند. بعد از آن خداوند دعای شانرا قبول کرد و قحطی از بین رفت.
12David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh Gilead, who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, in the day that the Philistines killed Saul in Gilboa;
12بار دیگر فلسطینی ها برای جنگ با اسرائیل آمدند. داود و مردان او برای مقابله رفتند. در حین جنگ، داود مانده و خسته شد.
13and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son: and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged.
13یشبیبنوب که از اولادۀ رافای غول پیکر و وزن نیزۀ برنجی او در حدود سه و نیم کیلو بود و یک شمشیر نو به کمر داشت، قصد کشتن داود را کرد.
14They buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the tomb of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. After that God was entreated for the land.
14اما ابیشای، پسر زِرویه به کمک داود آمد و به فلسطینی حمله کرد و او را کشت. آنگاه مردان داود به او گفتند: «از این ببعد تو نباید با ما به جنگ بروی، زیرا ما نمی خواهیم که چراغ اسرائیل خاموش شود.»
15The Philistines had war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines. David grew faint;
15پسانتر، در یک جنگ دیگر با فلسطینی ها که در جوب بوقوع پیوست، سِبکای حوشاتی که او هم یکی از اولاده های رافای غول پیکر بود در این جنگ کشته شد.
16and Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being armed with a new sword, thought to have slain David.
16باز در جنگ دیگری با فلسطینی ها که آنهم در جوب بود، اَلحانان پسر یعری ارجیم، از اهالی بیت لحم، برادر جُلیات جتی را کشت که چوب نیزه اش مثل چوب کارگاه بافندگی بود.
17But Abishai the son of Zeruiah helped him, and struck the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, “You shall go no more out with us to battle, that you don’t quench the lamp of Israel.”
17باز در یک جنگ دیگر در جَت، مرد قوی هیکل و قدبلندی بود که هر دستش شش انگشت و هر پایش شش پنجه داشت، یعنی جملۀ انگشت و پنجه هایش بیست و چهار و او هم از اولادۀ رافای غول پیکر بود.
18It came to pass after this, that there was again war with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbecai the Hushathite killed Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.
18چون اسرائیل را تحقیر کرد و به تنگ آورد، برادرزادۀ داود، یُوناتان پسر شمعی او را به قتل رساند.این چهار نفر همه از اولادۀ رافای غول پیکر بودند که به دست داود و مردان او کشته شدند.
19There was again war with the Philistines at Gob; and Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim the Bethlehemite killed Goliath the Gittite’s brother, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
19این چهار نفر همه از اولادۀ رافای غول پیکر بودند که به دست داود و مردان او کشته شدند.
20There was again war at Gath, where there was a man of great stature, who had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.
21When he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, killed him.
22These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
