¹When we had escaped, then they NU reads “we” learned that the island was called Malta.

¹وقتی صحیح و سالم به ساحل رسیدیم، فهمیدیم که نام آن جزیره مالتا است.

²The natives showed us uncommon kindness; for they kindled a fire, and received us all, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.

²مردم آن جزیره به ما مهربانی بسیار کردند و چون هوا سرد بود و باران می بارید، آتش بزرگی افروختند و از ما پذیرایی کردند.

³But when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and laid them on the fire, a viper came out because of the heat, and fastened on his hand.

³پولُس مقداری هیزم جمع کرده بود و وقتی آن را روی آتش گذاشت به علت حرارت آتش ماری از میان آن بیرون آمد و به دست او چسپید.

⁴When the natives saw the creature hanging from his hand, they said one to another, “No doubt this man is a murderer, whom, though he has escaped from the sea, yet Justice has not allowed to live.”

⁴همین که بومیان مار را به دست او آویزان دیدند به یکدیگر گفتند: «این شخص حتماً قاتل است که با وجود اینکه از بحر نجات پیدا کرد، الهۀ عدالت اجازه نمی دهد که او زنده بماند.»

⁵However he shook off the creature into the fire, and wasn’t harmed.

⁵اما پولُس مار را روی آتش انداخت و اصلاً ضرری ندید.

⁶But they expected that he would have swollen or fallen down dead suddenly, but when they watched for a long time and saw nothing bad happen to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.

⁶آنها منتظر بودند که هر لحظه بدنش ورم کند و یا ناگهان نقش زمین گردد. اما وقتی مدت زیادی منتظر ماندند و دیدند که هیچ ضرری به او نرسیده است، فکر شان عوض شد و گفتند که او یکی از خدایان است.

⁷Now in the neighborhood of that place were lands belonging to the chief man of the island, named Publius, who received us, and courteously entertained us for three days.

⁷در نزدیکی های آن محل املاکی وجود داشت که متعلق به پوبلیوس، حاکم آن جزیره بود. این شخص ما را به خانه برد و مدت سه روز با کمال مهربانی از ما پذیرایی کرد.

⁸It happened that the father of Publius lay sick of fever and dysentery. Paul entered in to him, prayed, and laying his hands on him, healed him.

⁸در همان وقت پدر پوبلیوس بستری و مبتلا به تب نوبه و اسهال خونی بود. پولُس به بالین او رفت و پس از دعا بر او دست گذاشت و او را شفا داد.

⁹Then when this was done, the rest also who had diseases in the island came, and were cured.

⁹پس از این جریان دیگر بیماران آن جزیره هم آمدند و شفا یافتند.

¹⁰They also honored us with many honors, and when we sailed, they put on board the things that we needed.

¹⁰آنها در مقابل، هدایای فراوانی به ما دادند و وقتی خواستیم آنجا را ترک کنیم، چیزهایی را که در سفر مورد احتیاج ما بود برای ما به کشتی آوردند.

¹¹After three months, we set sail in a ship of Alexandria which had wintered in the island, whose sign was “The Twin Brothers.”

¹¹پس از سه ماه اقامت در آن جزیره با یک کشتی اسکندریه ای، که علامت دو پیکر جوزا داشت و زمستان را در آنجا توقف کرده بود، به راه افتادیم.

¹²Touching at Syracuse, we stayed there three days.

¹²در شهر سراکیوس لنگر انداختیم و سه روز در آنجا توقف نمودیم.

¹³From there we circled around and arrived at Rhegium. After one day, a south wind sprang up, and on the second day we came to Puteoli,

¹³بار دیگر از آنجا با کشتی حرکت کرده به شهر ریغیون رفتیم. بعد از یک روز باد جنوبی برخاست و دو روز طول کشید که به بندر پوطیولی رسیدیم.

¹⁴where we found brothers, The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” and were entreated to stay with them for seven days. So we came to Rome.

¹⁴در آنجا برادران را پیدا کردیم و به دعوت آنها مدت یک هفته در آنجا ماندیم و به این ترتیب به روم رسیدیم.

¹⁵From there the brothers, when they heard of us, came to meet us as far as The Market of Appius and The Three Taverns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God, and took courage.

¹⁵مسیحیان آن شهر وقتی شنیدند که ما در راه هستیم، تا بازار آپیاس و دهکده ای به نام «سه میخانه» به استقبال ما آمدند و چون پولُس آنها را دید، خدا را شکر نموده و دلگرم شد.

¹⁶When we entered into Rome, the centurion delivered the prisoners to the captain of the guard, but Paul was allowed to stay by himself with the soldier who guarded him.

¹⁶وقتی به روم رسیدیم پولُس اجازه یافت که با یک نگهبان رومی در خانه ای جداگانه زندگی کند.

¹⁷It happened that after three days Paul called together those who were the leaders of the Jews. When they had come together, he said to them, “I, brothers, though I had done nothing against the people, or the customs of our fathers, still was delivered prisoner from Jerusalem into the hands of the Romans,

¹⁷بعد از سه روز پولُس رهبران یهودیان آنجا را دعوت کرد و وقتی آن ها جمع شدند به ایشان گفت: «ای برادران، من که هرگز عملی برضد ملت و یا آئین پدران خود انجام نداده ام، در اورشلیم دستگیر و تسلیم رومیان شدم.

¹⁸who, when they had examined me, desired to set me free, because there was no cause of death in me.

¹⁸رومیان از من تحقیقات نمودند و می خواستند مرا آزاد سازند، زیرا پی بردند که من هیچ کاری نکرده ام که مستوجب مرگ باشم.

¹⁹But when the Jews spoke against it, I was constrained to appeal to Caesar, not that I had anything about which to accuse my nation.

¹⁹اما یهودیان مخالفت کردند و من هیچ راهی نداشتم جز اینکه از امپراطور دادخواهی نمایم، البته من هیچ شکایتی هم برضد ملت خود ندارم.

²⁰For this cause therefore I asked to see you and to speak with you. For because of the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”

²⁰به این سبب از شما دعوت کردم تا شما را ببینم و با شما صحبت کنم، زیرا من به خاطر همان امیدی که اسرائیل دارد، به طوری که می بینید گرفتار زنجیرم.»

²¹They said to him, “We neither received letters from Judea concerning you, nor did any of the brothers come here and report or speak any evil of you.

²¹به او گفتند: «هیچ نامه ای دربارۀ تو از یهودیه به ما نرسیده است و از برادران ما هم کسی به اینجا نیامده است که دربارۀ تو گزارشی داده باشد و یا سخن بدی به زیان آورده باشد.

²²But we desire to hear from you what you think. For, as concerning this sect, it is known to us that everywhere it is spoken against.”

²²اما ما می خواهیم عقاید و نظرات ترا از زبان خودت بشنویم. آنچه ما دربارۀ این فرقۀ جدید می دانیم آن است که همه از آن ایراد می گیرند.»

²³When they had appointed him a day, many people came to him at his lodging. He explained to them, testifying about the Kingdom of God, and persuading them concerning Jesus, both from the law of Moses and from the prophets, from morning until evening.

²³پس روزی را تعیین کردند و عده زیادی برای دیدن او به منزلش آمدند. او به تفصیل از صبح تا شب، دربارۀ پادشاهی خدا برای آن ها سخن گفت و کوشید با مراجعه به تورات موسی و نوشته های انبیاء، آنها را نسبت به عیسی متقاعد و قانع سازد.

²⁴Some believed the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.

²⁴بعضی از آن ها سخنان او را قبول کرده ایمان آوردند، ولی دیگران در بی ایمانی خود باقی ماندند.

²⁵When they didn’t agree among themselves, they departed after Paul had spoken one word, “The Holy Spirit spoke rightly through Isaiah, the prophet, to our fathers,

²⁵آن ها بدون آنکه بین خود به موافقت برسند، جدا شدند. اما پیش از رفتن آن ها پولُس اظهار داشت: «روح القدس به وسیلۀ اشعیای نبی به پدران شما چه خوب گفته است:

²⁶saying, ‘Go to this people, and say, in hearing, you will hear, but will in no way understand. In seeing, you will see, but will in no way perceive.

²⁶«پیش این قوم برو و به آن ها بگو: بسیار خواهید شنید ولی درک نخواهید کرد و پیوسته خواهید نگریست ولی نخواهید دید،

²⁷For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, and I would heal them.’ Isaiah 6:9-10

²⁷زیرا دلهای این قوم سخت و گوشهای شان سنگین و چشمان شان بسته شده است. مبادا با چشم خود ببینند و با گوش خود بشنوند و با قلب خود بفهمند و برگردند و من آنها را شفا بخشم.»

²⁸“Be it known therefore to you, that the salvation of God is sent to the nations. They will also listen.”

²⁸پس بدانید که این نجات خدایی در اختیار غیر یهودیان گذاشته شده است و آن ها آنرا خواهند پذیرفت.»

²⁹When he had said these words, the Jews departed, having a great dispute among themselves.

²⁹چون پولُس این سخنان را گفت، یهودیان رفتند و با یکدیگر بشدت مباحثه می کردند.

³⁰Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who were coming to him,

³⁰پولُس دو سال تمام در منزل کرایی خود زندگی کرد و دروازه خانه اش به روی همه باز بود.او پادشاهی خدا را اعلام می کرد و دربارۀ عیسی مسیح خداوند بسیار واضع و بدون هیچ مانعی تعلیم می داد.

³¹preaching the Kingdom of God, and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness, without hindrance.
