¹Thus the Lord Yahweh showed me: behold, a basket of summer fruit.

¹خداوند متعال در رؤیای دیگری یک تُکری پُر از میوه را به من نشان داد

²He said, “Amos, what do you see?” I said, “A basket of summer fruit.” Then Yahweh said to me, “The end has come on my people Israel. I will not again pass by them any more.

²و از من پرسید: «عاموس چه می بینی؟» من جواب دادم: «یک تکری پُر از میوۀ رسیده.» خداوند فرمود: «وقت آن رسیده است که قوم برگزیدۀ من، اسرائیل به جزای اعمال خود برسند و من از مجازات آن ها منصرف نمی شوم.

³The songs of the temple will be wailings in that day,” says the Lord Yahweh. “The dead bodies will be many. In every place they will throw them out with silence.

³در آن روز سرودهائی که مردم در معبد می نوازند، به گریه و نوحه تبدیل می شوند. اجساد مردگان در همه جا بچشم می خورند و سکوت مطلق سایه می افگند.»

⁴Hear this, you who desire to swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,

⁴بشنوید ای کسانی که مردم مسکین و بینوا را پایمال می کنید و قصد نابودی اهالی فقیر این سرزمین را دارید!

⁵Saying, ‘When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may market wheat, making the ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel small, and the shekel large, and dealing falsely with balances of deceit;

⁵به این فکر هستید که: «هرچه زودتر ایام تعطیل و روزهای سَبَت بپایان برسند تا به کسب و کار خود شروع کنید و غلۀ خود را به قیمت گران بفروشید. در ترازو تقلب می نمائید و با اوزان سبکتر مشتریان را فریب می دهید.

⁶that we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes, and sell the sweepings with the wheat?’”

⁶گندم پسماندۀ خود را به فقرا در بدل نقره می فروشید و مردم مسکین را بخاطر قرض یک جوره کفش به غلامی می گیرید.»

⁷Yahweh has sworn by the pride of Jacob, “Surely I will never forget any of their works.

⁷خداوند، خدای پُر جلال اسرائیل قسم خورده می فرماید: «من هرگز کارهای آن ها را فراموش نمی کنم.

⁸Won’t the land tremble for this, and everyone mourn who dwells in it? Yes, it will rise up wholly like the River; and it will be stirred up and sink again, like the River of Egypt.

⁸از اینرو، این سرزمین به لرزه می آید و ساکنین آن ماتم می گیرند. تمام کشور اسرائیل مثل دریای نیل در هنگام سیلاب متلاطم شده بالا می آید و دوباره فرومی نشیند.»

⁹It will happen in that day,” says the Lord Yahweh, “that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day.

⁹خداوند متعال می فرماید: «در آن روز بفرمان من آفتاب در وقت ظهر غروب می کند و زمین را در روز روشن تاریک می سازم.

¹⁰I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will make you wear sackcloth on all your bodies, and baldness on every head. I will make it like the mourning for an only son, and its end like a bitter day.

¹⁰جشن های تان را به ماتم و سرود خوشی شما را به گریه و نوحه تبدیل می کنم. آنگاه مثلیکه یگانه پسر تان مُرده باشد، سرهای تان را تراشیده لباس ماتم می پوشید و آن روز برای شما یک روز بسیار تلخ و ناگوار خواهد بود.»

¹¹Behold, the days come,” says the Lord Yahweh, “that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of Yahweh.

¹¹خداوند متعال می فرماید: «روزی می رسد که قحطی را به این سرزمین می فرستم. این قحطی، قحطی نان و آب نبوده بلکه قحطی کلام خداوند می باشد.

¹²They will wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east; they will run back and forth to seek the word of Yahweh, and will not find it.

¹²مردم دنبال کلام خداوند بحرها را می پیمایند و به شرق و غرب می روند، اما موفق به یافتن آن نمی شوند.

¹³In that day the beautiful virgins and the young men will faint for thirst.

¹³در آن روز حتی دختران و مردان جوان و سالم هم از تشنگی بیحال می گردند.کسانی که بنام بت های سامره و دان و بئرشِبع قسم می خورند، می افتند و دیگر بر نمی خیزند.»

¹⁴Those who swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, ‘As your god, Dan, lives;’ and, ‘As the way of Beersheba lives;’ they will fall, and never rise up again.”

¹⁴کسانی که بنام بت های سامره و دان و بئرشِبع قسم می خورند، می افتند و دیگر بر نمی خیزند.»
