¹These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah over against Suph, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

¹این کتاب شامل خطابۀ موسی برای قوم اسرائیل است که در بیابان عربه (واقع در بیابان موآب) در شرق اُردن ثبت شده است. شهرهای این ناحیه عبارت بودند از: سوف، فاران، توفَل، لابان، حزیروت و دی ذهَب.

²It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.

²از کوه حوریب (کوه سینا) تا قادِش بَرنیع از طریق کوه سعیر یک فاصلۀ یازده روزه است.

³It happened in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. had given him in commandment to them;

³در روز اول ماهِ یازدهم سال چهلم، پس از خروج قوم اسرائیل از مصر بود که موسی خطابۀ خود را ایراد نمود.

⁴after he had struck Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.

⁴بعد از آنکه موسی سیحون، پادشاه اموریان را که در حِشبون حکومت می کرد و عوج، پادشاه باشان را که در عَشتاروت بود، در اَدرَعی شکست داد، این هدایات را که خداوند به او ارشاد فرموده بود به قوم اسرائیل ابلاغ نموده

⁵Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

⁵گفت: «وقتی ما در کوه حوریب بودیم، خداوند، خدای ما به ما چنین فرمود: شما بقدر کافی در این کوهستان توقف کرده اید.

⁶“Yahweh our God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” spoke to us in Horeb, saying, You have lived long enough in this mountain:

⁶حالا آماده شوید و به سرزمین کوهستانی اموریان و نواحی آن ـ درۀ اُردن، کوهستانها، دشتها، حوالی سمت جنوب، سواحل مدیترانه، سرزمین کنعان و لبنان و تا دریای فرات ـ بروید و همه را تصرف کنید.

⁷turn, and take your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites, and to all the places near there, in the Arabah, in the hill country, and in the lowland, and in the South, and by the seashore, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁷زیرا اینها همان جاهائی هستند که وعدۀ مالکیت شان را به اجداد تان، ابراهیم، اسحاق، یعقوب و اولادۀ شان داده بودم.»

⁸Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.”

⁸موسی اضافه کرد: «در همان وقت به شما گفتم که من به تنهائی نمی توانم همه مسئولیت ها را بگردن بگیرم.

⁹I spoke to you at that time, saying, “I am not able to bear you myself alone:

⁹خداوند، خدای شما تعداد شما را مثل ستارگان آسمان بیشمار ساخته است.

¹⁰Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day as the stars of the sky for multitude.

¹⁰از خداوند، خدای اجداد تان تمنا دارم که شمارۀ تانرا هزار چند زیاد کند و به شما برکت فراوان عطا فرماید.

¹¹Yahweh, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are, and bless you, as he has promised you!

¹¹اما چطور می توانم به تنهائی به تمام دعواها و منازعات شما رسیدگی کنم؟

¹²How can I myself alone bear your encumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

¹²پس از هر قبیله چند مرد دانا، فهمیده و با تجربه را انتخاب کنید و من آن ها را به رهبری شما تعیین می نمایم.

¹³Take wise men of understanding and well known according to your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

¹³شما به پیشنهاد من موافقه کردید.

¹⁴You answered me, and said, “The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”

¹⁴آنوقت من آن اشخاص دانا و با تجربۀ هر قبیله را که شما انتخاب نمودید مأمور ساختم تا بعنوان رهبر گروه های هزار، صد، پنجاه و ده نفری وفای وظیفه نموده دعواهای شما را حل و فصل نمایند.

¹⁵So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.

¹⁵به رهبران تان امر کردم که در عین حال در امور قضائی هم با شما کمک کرده هر دعوائی را چه از قوم خود شان باشند یا از بیگانه، از روی عدالت و انصاف فیصله کنند.

¹⁶I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.

¹⁶به آن ها گفتم: «بین خورد و بزرگ فرقی را قایل مشوید، از کسی نترسید، زیرا هر فیصله ای که می کنید از جانب خدا خواهد بود. اگر حل مسئله ای برای شما مشکل باشد آنرا برای من بیاورید و من به آن رسیدگی می کنم.»

¹⁷You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike; you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

¹⁷در همان وقت هدایات لازمۀ دیگری هم به آن ها دادم.

¹⁸I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.

¹⁸قرار امر خداوند، خدای خود از حوریب حرکت کردیم و از بیابان وسیع و وحشتناک عبور نموده به کوهستان اموریان رفتیم. وقتی به قادِش بَرنیع رسیدیم

¹⁹We traveled from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as Yahweh our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh Barnea.

¹⁹به شما گفتم که خداوند، خدای ما این سرزمین را به ما داده است. حالا بروید و قرار فرمان خداوند، خدای پدران تان آنرا تصاحب کنید. نترسید و خوف را بدل تان راه ندهید.

²⁰I said to you, “You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which Yahweh our God gives to us.

²⁰آنگاه همۀ تان پیش من آمدید و گفتید: «بیائید چند نفر را پیشتر به آنجا بفرستیم تا آن سرزمین را بررسی کنند و بعد به ما خبر بدهند که از کدام طریق می توانیم به آن سرزمین داخل شویم و با چه شهرهای روبرو می شویم.»

²¹Behold, Yahweh your God has set the land before you: go up, take possession, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you; don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed.”

²¹من با پیشنهاد شما موافقه کردم و دوازده نفر را، یعنی یک نفر از هر قبیله انتخاب نمودم.

²²You came near to me everyone of you, and said, “Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come.”

²²آن ها براه افتادند و از کوهستانها گذشته به وادی اشکول رفتند و آنجا را بررسی کردند.

²³The thing pleased me well; and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe:

²³آن ها برگشتند و نمونه هائی از میوه های آن سرزمین را با خود آوردند و گفتند: «آن کشوری را که خداوند، خدای ما به ما داده است یک سرزمین حاصلخیز است.»

²⁴and they turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

²⁴اما شما از ورود به آنجا خودداری نموده و از فرمان خداوند، خدای تان سرکشی کردید.

²⁵They took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which Yahweh our God gives to us.”

²⁵در خیمه های تان به شکایت پرداختید و گفتید: «چون خداوند از ما نفرت داشت، ما را از مصر بیرون آورد تا ما را به دست اموریان تسلیم کرده از بین ببرد.

²⁶Yet you wouldn’t go up, but rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God:

²⁶چرا به آنجا برویم؟ برادران ما که به آنجا رفتند با خبرهائی که آوردند ما را ترساندند، زیرا گفتند که مردان آن سرزمین قویتر و قدبلندتر از ما هستند و دیوارهای شهرهای شان سربفلک کشیده می باشند و همچنان آن ها غول پیکرانی را که از اولادۀ عناق هستند در آنجا دیده اند.»

²⁷and you murmured in your tents, and said, “Because Yahweh hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

²⁷اما من به شما گفتم که هراسان نباشید و از آن مردم نترسید.

²⁸Where are we going up? our brothers have made our heart to melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to the sky; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.’”

²⁸خداوند، خدای شما راهنمای شما است و همانطوری که قبلاً در مصر و همچنین در این بیابان در برابر چشمان تان جنگید، حالا هم برای شما جنگ می کند.

²⁹Then I said to you, “Don’t dread, neither be afraid of them.

²⁹شما دیدید که در تمام طول راه، مثل یک پدر که از فرزند خود مراقبت می کند، از شما غمخواری کرده است.

³⁰Yahweh your God who goes before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

³⁰اما با همۀ اینها و باوجودیکه پیشاپیش شما حرکت می کرد تا جای مناسبی برای اقامت شما پیدا کند، بازهم شما به خداوند اعتماد نکردید.

³¹and in the wilderness, where you have seen how that Yahweh your God bore you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”

³¹او در سراسر سفر، در شب بوسیلۀ ستونی از آتش و در روز با ستونی از ابر شما را راهنمائی فرمود.

³²Yet in this thing you didn’t believe Yahweh your God,

³²وقتی خداوند شکایت شما را شنید، خشمگین شد و قسم خورد و فرمود:

³³who went before you in the way, to seek you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way you should go, and in the cloud by day.

³³«حتی یک نفر هم از شما نسل شریر روی آن سرزمینی را که من وعدۀ مالکیتش را به پدران تان داده بودم، نخواهد دید.

³⁴Yahweh heard the voice of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,

³⁴بغیر از کالیب، پسر یَفُنه که چون از من اطاعتِ کامل نمود، آن زمینی را که مطالعه کرده است به او و اولاده اش می بخشم.»

³⁵“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land, which I swore to give to your fathers,

³⁵بخاطر شما خداوند بر من هم خشم نموده و فرمود: «تو هم به آن سرزمین موعود داخل نمی شوی.

³⁶except Caleb the son of Jephunneh: he shall see it; and to him will I give the land that he has trodden on, and to his children, because he has wholly followed Yahweh.”

³⁶به جای تو، یوشع پسر نون که معاون تو است، قوم اسرائیل را هدایت می کند. پس او را تشویق کن چون او رهبری قوم اسرائیل را در تصرف آن سرزمین به عهده خواهد گرفت.»

³⁷Also Yahweh was angry with me for your sakes, saying, “You also shall not go in there:

³⁷برعلاوه کودکان تان را که حالا دست راست و چپ خود را نمی شناسند و شما می گفتید که اسیر دست دشمنان می شوند، مالک آن سرزمین می سازم.

³⁸Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there: encourage you him; for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³⁸اما شما حالا برگردید و از راهی که بطرف بحیرۀ احمر می رود، به بیابان بروید.

³⁹Moreover your little ones, whom you said should be a prey, and your children, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in there, and to them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

³⁹آنگاه شما گفتید: «ما در برابر خداوند گناه کرده ایم، اما اینک می رویم و قرار فرمان خداوند، خدای خود می جنگیم.» پس همۀ شما برای جنگ آماده شدید و فکر می کردید که به آسانی می توانید آن ناحیۀ کوهستانی را فتح کنید.

⁴⁰But as for you, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds .”

⁴⁰خداوند به من فرمود تا به شما بگویم که جنگ نکنید، زیرا خداوند با شما نمی رود و دشمن، شما را شکست می دهد.

⁴¹Then you answered and said to me, “We have sinned against Yahweh, we will go up and fight, according to all that Yahweh our God commanded us.” Every man of you put on his weapons of war, and presumed to go up into the hill country.

⁴¹من آنچه را که خداوند به من فرمود به شما گفتم، اما شما توجه نکردید. شما مغرور شدید و از فرمان خداوند سرکشی نموده و برای جنگ به کوهستان رفتید.

⁴²Yahweh said to me, “Tell them, ‘Don’t go up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest you be struck before your enemies.’”

⁴²همان بود که اَمُوریانی که ساکنین آنجا بودند، به مقابلۀ شما آمدند و مانند خیل زنبور شما را دنبال کردند و از سعیر تا حُرما شکست دادند.

⁴³So I spoke to you, and you didn’t listen; but you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill country.

⁴³آنگاه شما برگشتید و در حضور خداوند گریه کردید، ولی خداوند به فریاد شما گوش نداد.بعد شما مدت مدیدی در قادِش باقی ماندید.

⁴⁴The Amorites, who lived in that hill country, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even to Hormah.

⁴⁴بعد شما مدت مدیدی در قادِش باقی ماندید.

⁴⁵You returned and wept before Yahweh; but Yahweh didn’t listen to your voice, nor gave ear to you.

⁴⁶So you stayed in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained.
