¹Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , as Yahweh spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days.

¹بعد قرار امر خداوند برگشتیم و از راهی که بطرف بحیرۀ احمر می رود، به بیابان رفتیم. سالهای زیادی در نواحی کوه سعیر سرگردان بودیم.

²Yahweh spoke to me, saying,

²آنگاه خداوند به من فرمود: «شما برای یک مدت کافی در این کوهستان سرگردان بوده اید. حالا بطرف شمال بروید

³“You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward.

³و به مردم هدایت بدهید که از بین سرزمین خویشاوندان شان، یعنی ادومیان که اولادۀ عیسو هستند و در سعیر بود و باش دارند، عبور کنند. آن ها از شما می ترسند، پس بسیار احتیاط کنید

⁴Command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;

⁴و با آن ها نجنگید، زیرا من حتی یک وجب از زمین آنجا را به شما نمی دهم، چونکه تمام کوهستان سعیر را بعنوان مِلکیت به عیسو داده ام.

⁵don’t contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

⁵در آنجا برای غذا و آبی که مصرف می کنید باید پول بپردازید.»

⁶You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.’”

⁶خداوند، خدای تان در تمام مدت چهل سالیکه در این بیابان وسیع سرگردان بوده اید در هر قدم مراقب شما بوده از هر جهت به شما برکت داده است و به هیچ چیزی محتاج نبوده اید.

⁷For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Yahweh your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.

⁷پس ما از سرحد سعیر که خویشاوندان ما، یعنی اولادۀ عیسو در آن زندگی می کردند عبور نمودیم و بعد از جاده ای که بطرف اِیلَت و عَصیون جابَر می رود گذشته رو به شمال بطرف بیابان موآب حرکت کردیم.

⁸So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

⁸خداوند به من فرمود: «موجب آزار و اذیتِ موآبیان که اولادۀ لوط هستند، نشوید و با آن ها جنگ نکنید، زیرا من از زمین آن ها چیزی به شما نمی دهم، چونکه شهر عار را به آن ها بخشیده ام.»

⁹Yahweh said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.”

⁹(ایمیان که قبیلۀ بسیار بزرگی بودند قبلاً در آنجا سکونت داشته و مثل غول پیکران عناقی قدِ بلند داشتند.

¹⁰(The Emim lived therein before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:

¹⁰ایمیان مانند عناقیان اصلاً رفائی بودند، اما موآبیان آن ها را ایمی می خواندند.

¹¹these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.

¹¹حوریان هم قبلاً در سعیر زندگی می کردند، اما اولادۀ عیسو آن ها را بیرون رانده همه را از بین بردند و سرزمین شان را اشغال کردند، همانطوریکه اسرائیل سرزمین مردم کنعان را که خداوند به آن ها داده بود، تصرف نمودند.)

¹²The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave to them.)

¹²بعد به امر خداوند از دریای زارَد عبور کردیم.

¹³“Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered.

¹³از وقتی که قادِش بَرنیع را ترک کردیم و از وادی زارَد گذشتیم سی و هشت سال را در بر گرفت. همانطوریکه خداوند فرموده بود، در این مدت تمام مردان جنگی ما از بین رفتند.

¹⁴The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them.

¹⁴دست خداوند برضد آن ها دراز بود تا اینکه همه را هلاک ساخت.

¹⁵Moreover the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

¹⁵بعد از آنکه تمام مردان جنگی مردند،

¹⁶So it happened, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

¹⁶خداوند به من فرمود:

¹⁷that Yahweh spoke to me, saying,

¹⁷«امروز باید از طریق عار از سرحد موآب عبور کنید.

¹⁸“You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab:

¹⁸وقتی به سرحد عَمونی ها نزدیک شدید، به آن ها آزار نرسانید و از جنگ با آن ها خودداری کنید، زیرا من سرزمین آن ها را به شما نمی دهم، چونکه آنجا را به اولادۀ لوط بخشیده ام.»

¹⁹and when you come near over against the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.”

¹⁹(در این سرزمین یک وقتی رفائیان زندگی می کردند. عَمونی ها اینها را زَمزمی می گفتند.

²⁰(That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived therein before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,

²⁰این مردم یک گروه بسیار بزرگ بود و مانند عناقیان قدِ بلند داشتند. اما خداوند آن ها را از بین برد تا بجای شان عَمونی ها در آنجا سکونت کنند.

²¹a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place;

²¹خداوند به اولادۀ عیسو هم به همین ترتیب کمک کرد و حوریان را که پیش از آن ها در سعیر سکونت داشتند از بین بُرد و تا به امروز بجای آن ها در آن ناحیه زندگی می کنند.

²²as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day:

²²به همین قسم مردمی که از جزیرۀ کریت آمده بودند، قبیلۀ عِویان را که در نواحی غزه می زیستند از بین بردند و در آنجا خود شان بجای آن ها سکونت اختیار نمودند.)

²³and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.)

²³خداوند فرمود: «از وادی اَرنُون عبور کنید و با سیحون، پادشاهِ حِشبون بجنگید. من او را با کشورش به دست شما تسلیم می کنم.

²⁴“Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

²⁴امروز وحشت را در دل مردم ایجاد می نمایم تا همه کس در همه جای دنیا از شما بترسند و وقتی نام شما را بشنوند، به وحشت بیفتند.»

²⁵This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.”

²⁵پس من از بیابان قِدیموت مردانی را پیش سیحون، پادشاهِ حِشبون فرستادم و با این پیام پیشنهاد صلح کردم:

²⁶I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

²⁶«اگر به ما اجازه بدهی که از سرزمین ات عبور کنیم، ما تنها از شاهراه به سفر خود ادامه می دهیم و از آن به چپ یا راست قدم نمی گذاریم.

²⁷“Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.

²⁷غذا و آب خود را از شما می خریم. چیزی که از شما می خواهیم اجازۀ عبور از خاک شما است و بس.

²⁸You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,

²⁸اولادۀ عیسو که در سعیر سکونت دارند و همینطور موآبیان که در عار زندگی می کنند به ما اجازۀ عبور از سرزمین خود را دادند. ما می خواهیم که از طریق اُردن به سرزمینی که خداوند، خدای ما به ما داده است برویم.»

²⁹as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh our God gives us.”

²⁹اما سیحون، پادشاهِ حِشبون به ما اجازۀ عبور را نداد. خداوند، خدای شما او را بی رحم و سخت دل ساخت تا ما او را شکست بدهیم. چنانچه امروز واقع شده است.

³⁰But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Yahweh your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.

³⁰خداوند به من فرمود: «من سیحون و سرزمین او را در برابر شما عاجز ساخته ام. پس بروید و برای تصرف آن دست به کار شوید.»

³¹Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.”

³¹وقتی سیحون با لشکر خود برای جنگ به یاهز آمد،

³²Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.

³²خداوند، خدای ما او را به دست ما تسلیم کرد و ما او را همراه با فرزندان و تمام مردم او کشتیم.

³³Yahweh our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, and his sons, and all his people.

³³بعد از آنکه شهرهای او را تصرف کردیم، همۀ مردان، زنان و اطفال شان را بکلی از بین بردیم و هیچ کسی را زنده نگذاشتیم.

³⁴We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones; we left none remaining:

³⁴تنها گله های شان را بعنوان غنیمت برای خود نگهداشتیم و شهرهای شان را که به دست آورده بودیم، غارت کردیم.

³⁵only the livestock we took for a prey to ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken.

³⁵از عروعیر که در کنار وادی اَرنُون است تا جِلعاد، همه شهرها را بشمول شهری که در وسط وادی بود، تصرف کردیم و هیچ شهری نتوانست در مقابل ما مقاومت کند، زیرا خداوند، خدای ما همه چیز را به ما داده بود.اما به سرزمین عَمونی ها و ناحیۀ وادی یبوق و شهرهای کوهستانی که خداوند، خدای ما، ما را منع کرده بود، نزدیک نشدیم.

³⁶From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us; Yahweh our God delivered up all before us:

³⁶اما به سرزمین عَمونی ها و ناحیۀ وادی یبوق و شهرهای کوهستانی که خداوند، خدای ما، ما را منع کرده بود، نزدیک نشدیم.

³⁷only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever Yahweh our God forbade us.
