1Now when Mordecai found out all that was done, Mordecai tore his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and wailed loudly and a bitterly.
1وقتی مردخای از جریان اطلاع یافت، از غصه لباس خود را درید و جامۀ عُزا بر تن کرد. خاکستر بر سر خویش ریخت و در کوچه های شهر راه می رفت و با صدای بلند گریه و زاری می کرد،
2He came even before the king’s gate, for no one is allowed inside the king’s gate clothed with sackcloth.
2تا اینکه به در ورودی کاخ رسید. او داخل کاخ نشد، چون هیچ کس با لباس عُزا اجازۀ ورود به قصر را نداشت.
3In every province, wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.
3در تمام ولایات، در هر جا فرمان شاه به اطلاع مردم می رسید، یهودیان بلند می گریستند. آن ها روزه می گرفتند، گریه و ناله می کردند و اکثراً لباس عُزا پوشیده بر خاکستر می نشستند.
4Esther’s maidens and her eunuchs came and told her this, and the queen was exceedingly grieved. She sent clothing to Mordecai, to replace his sackcloth; but he didn’t receive it.
4وقتی کنیزان و خواجه سرایان اِستَر از آنچه مردخای می کرد به اِستَر خبر دادند، اِستَر بسیار ناراحت شد. او برای مردخای لباس فرستاد تا بجای لباس عُزا بپوشد، ولی مردخای آن را قبول نکرد.
5Then Esther called for Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs, whom he had appointed to attend her, and commanded him to go to Mordecai, to find out what this was, and why it was.
5آنگاه او هتاک، یکی از خواجه سرایانی را که پادشاه به خدمت او گماشته بود، احضار کرد و از او خواست پیش مردخای برود و ببیند چه شده و چرا مردخای چنین می کند.
6So Hathach went out to Mordecai, to city square which was before the king’s gate.
6هتاک نزد مردخای که در میدان شهر و جلوی در ورودی قصر بود رفت.
7Mordecai told him of all that had happened to him, and the exact sum of the money that Haman had promised to pay to the king’s treasuries for the destruction of the Jews.
7مردخای همه چیز را در بارۀ خودش و مقدار پولی که هامان حاضر بود در مقابل کشتن تمام یهودیان به خزانۀ دربار بپردازد برای او تعریف کرد.
8He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Shushan to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king, to make supplication to him, and to make request before him, for her people.
8و یک نسخه از فرمانی را که در شهر شوش منتشر شده بود و به موجب آن باید کلیۀ یهودیان کشته شوند به هتاک داد. مردخای از او خواهش کرد آن را به اِستَر برساند و اوضاع را برای او شرح دهد و او را وادار کند نزد پادشاه رفته، تقاضا کند که به قومش ترحم شود.
9Hathach came and told Esther the words of Mordecai.
9هتاک هم رفته پیغام مردخای را به اِستَر رسانید.
10Then Esther spoke to Hathach, and gave him a message to Mordecai:
10و اِستَر از او خواست این پیام را به مردخای برگرداند:
11“All the king’s servants, and the people of the king’s provinces, know, that whoever, whether man or woman, comes to the king into the inner court without being called, there is one law for him, that he be put to death, except those to whom the king might hold out the golden scepter, that he may live. I have not been called to come in to the king these thirty days.”
11«اگر کسی، چه مرد و چه زن، بدون اینکه احضار شده باشد، برای دیدن پادشاه وارد قسمت اندرونی کاخ شود جزایش مرگ است. این قانون است. همه، از مشاورین مخصوص گرفته تا مردم عادی ولایات، این را می دانند. فقط در یک صورت این قانون اجرا نخواهد شد و آن هم این است که پادشاه چوگان طلای خود را بطرف آن شخص دراز کند. در آن صورت جان او در امان خواهد بود. اما الآن یک ماه است که پادشاه مرا به حضور خویش نپذیرفته است.»
12They told to Mordecai Esther’s words.
12وقتی مردخای پیام اِستَر را دریافت کرد
13Then Mordecai asked them return answer to Esther, “Don’t think to yourself that you will escape in the king’s house any more than all the Jews.
13در جواب به او اخطار کرده گفت: «تصور نکن چون در کاخ سلطنتی هستی جان تو از بقیۀ یهودیان ایمن تر است.
14For if you remain silent now, then relief and deliverance will come to the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Who knows if you haven’t come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”
14اگر تو در موقع خطیری مثل این زمان ساکت بمانی، از جای دیگر برای یهودیان کمک و نجات خواهد آمد. اما تو خواهی مرد و خاندان پدریت از بین خواهد رفت. کسی نمی داند، شاید به خاطر چنین روزی بود که تو به این مقام رسیدی و ملکه امپراطوری فارس شدی.»
15Then Esther asked them to answer Mordecai,
15اِستَر در پاسخ این پیام را برای مردخای فرستاد:
16“Go, gather together all the Jews who are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day. I and my maidens will also fast the same way. Then I will go in to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.”
16«برو و تمام یهودیان مقیم شهر شوش را جمع کن. همگی روزه بگیرید. تا سه روز و سه شب چیزی نخورید و نیاشامید. من و ندیمه های من هم همین کار را خواهیم کرد. بعد از آن من به حضور پادشاه خواهم رفت ـ هرچند این عمل برخلاف قانون است. اگر لازم باشد در این راه بمیرم، خواهم مرد.»پس مردخای آن محل را ترک کرد و آنچه را که اِستَر به او گفته بود انجام داد.
17So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.
