¹They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

¹بنی اسرائیل از ایلیم کوچ کردند و در روز پانزدهم ماه دوم بعد از خروج از مصر، به صحرای سین که بین ایلیم و کوه سینا واقع است، رسیدند.

²The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

²درآنجا باز پیش موسی و هارون شکایت کردند

³and the children of Israel said to them, “We wish that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

³و گفتند: «ای کاش خداوند ما را در سرزمین مصر می کشت. آنجا در کنار دیگهای گوشت می نشستیم و غذای شکم سیر می خوردیم. اما تو ما را به این بیابان آوردی تا از گرسنگی هلاک شویم.»

⁴Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

⁴پس خداوند به موسی فرمود: «من برای شما مثل باران از آسمان غذا می فرستم. مردم باید هر روز بروند و به اندازۀ احتیاج آن روز، از آن جمع کنند. به اینوسیله، می خواهم آن ها را امتحان کنم که آیا از احکام من پیروی می کنند یا خیر.

⁵It shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

⁵در روز ششم باید دو برابر روزهای قبل غذا جمع کنند.»

⁶Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening, then you shall know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt;

⁶پس موسی و هارون به تمام مردم اسرائیل گفتند: «امشب به شما ثابت می شود که این خداوند بود که شما را از سرزمین مصر بیرون آورده است.

⁷and in the morning, then you shall see the glory of Yahweh; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?”

⁷فردا صبح حضور پُر جلال خداوند را خواهید دید. خداوند شکایات شما را که از او کرده اید، شنیده است. زیرا در واقع شما از خداوند شکایت کرده اید نه از ما. ما کیستیم که از ما گله و شکایت می کنید؟»

⁸Moses said, “Now Yahweh shall give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you; because Yahweh hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh.”

⁸بعد موسی گفت: «خداوند، شبها گوشت و صبح ها نان به هر اندازه ای که بتوانید بخورید به شما می دهد، زیرا خداوند شکایاتی را که از او کرده اید شنیده است.»

⁹Moses said to Aaron, “Tell all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come near before Yahweh, for he has heard your murmurings.’”

⁹موسی به هارون گفت: «به تمام مردم بگو بیایند و در حضور خداوند بایستند، زیرا او شکایات آن ها را شنیده است.»

¹⁰It happened, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.

¹⁰در حالیکه هارون با مردم صحبت می کرد آن ها به طرف بیابان نگاه کردند و ناگهان حضور پُر جلال خداوند را دیدند که از میان ابر ظاهر شد.

¹¹Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹¹خداوند به موسی فرمود:

¹²“I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread: and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.’”

¹²«من شکایات بنی اسرائیل را شنیدم. به آن ها بگو که هر شب گوشت و هر صبح نان به هر اندازه ای که بخواهند، خواهند داشت. تا بدانند که من خداوند، خدای شان می باشم.»

¹³It happened at evening that quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay around the camp.

¹³هنگام غروب خیل بزرگ بودنه آمد و سرتاسر خیمه گاه اسرائیل را پوشاند و هنگام صبح شبنم گرداگرد خیمه گاه را فراگرفت.

¹⁴When the dew that lay had gone, behold, on the surface of the wilderness was a small round thing, small as the frost on the ground.

¹⁴وقتی شبنم تبخیر کرد، دانه های کوچکی به روی زمین باقی ماند که مثل دانه های ژاله بود.

¹⁵When the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, “What is it?” For they didn’t know what it was. Moses said to them, “It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat.”

¹⁵وقتی اسرائیلی ها آن ها را دیدند نشناختند و از یکدیگر پرسیدند: «این چیست؟» موسی به آن ها گفت: «این نانی است که خداوند به شما داده است تا بخورید.

¹⁶This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded: “Gather of it everyone according to his eating; an omer An omer is about 2.2 litres or about 2.3 quarts a head, according to the number of your persons, you shall take it, every man for those who are in his tent.”

¹⁶خداوند فرمود که هر یک از شما قرار احتیاج خود یعنی یک عومر (مطابق با دو لیتر) برای هر نفر از اعضای خانواده اش از آن جمع کند.»

¹⁷The children of Israel did so, and gathered some more, some less.

¹⁷پس اسرائیلی ها بیرون رفتند و بعضی ها بیشتر و بعضی ها کمتر جمع کردند.

¹⁸When they measured it with an omer, he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack. They gathered every man according to his eating.

¹⁸وقتی آن ها را وزن می کردند، کسانی که بیشتر جمع کرده بودند اضافه نداشتند و آنهائی که کمتر جمع کرده بودند چیزی کم نداشتند، هر کس به همان اندازه ای که احتیاج داشت جمع کرده بود.

¹⁹Moses said to them, “Let no one leave of it until the morning.”

¹⁹موسی به آن ها گفت: «هیچ کس نباید چیزی از آن را برای فردا نگهدارد.»

²⁰Notwithstanding they didn’t listen to Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was angry with them.

²⁰اما بعضی ها به حرف موسی گوش ندادند و قسمتی از آن را نگهداشتند، ولی صبح روز بعد همه را کِرم زده و گنده شده بود و موسی از این کار آن ها خشمگین شد.

²¹They gathered it morning by morning, everyone according to his eating. When the sun grew hot, it melted.

²¹از آن ببعد، هر روز صبح هر کس به اندازۀ احتیاج خود جمع می کرد و وقتی آفتاب بالا می آمد و گرم می شد آنچه که روی زمین باقی می ماند، آب می شد و از بین می رفت.

²²It happened that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one, and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

²²در روز ششم آن ها دو برابر احتیاج روزانه خود جمع می کردند یعنی هر کس به اندازۀ چهار لیتر برای خود جمع می کرد. پس رهبران قوم آمدند و در آن باره به موسی خبر دادند.

²³He said to them, “This is that which Yahweh has spoken, ‘Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahweh. Bake that which you want to bake, and boil that which you want to boil; and all that remains over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.’”

²³موسی به آن ها گفت: «این فرمودۀ خداوند است. چون فردا، سَبَت، روز استراحت و روز مقدس است. پس هر قدر غذائی که ضرورت باشد امروز بپزید هر چه که باقی بماند آنرا برای فردا نگهدارید.»

²⁴They laid it up until the morning, as Moses asked, and it didn’t become foul, neither was there any worm in it.

²⁴آن ها قرار هدایت موسی هر چه باقی مانده بود، برای فردا نگهداشتند، ولی غذا را نه کِرم زده بود و نه گنده شده بود.

²⁵Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh. Today you shall not find it in the field.

²⁵موسی گفت: «این را امروز بخورید، زیرا امروز سَبَت، روز خداوند و روز استراحت است و در خارج خیمه گاه غذائی پیدا نخواهید کرد.

²⁶Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is the Sabbath. In it there shall be none.”

²⁶شما باید برای شش روز، هر روز غذا جمع آوری کنید، ولی در روز هفتم که روز استراحت است غذا نخواهید یافت.»

²⁷It happened on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.

²⁷در روز هفتم بعضی از مردم به بیابان رفتند تا غذا جمع کنند، ولی چیزی نیافتند.

²⁸Yahweh said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?

²⁸سپس خداوند به موسی فرمود: «شما تا کی می خواهید از اوامر من سرپیچی کنید؟

²⁹Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.”

²⁹بخاطر داشته باشید که من، خداوند، یک روز را برای استراحتِ شما تعیین کرده ام و بهمین دلیل است که همیشه در روز ششم به اندازۀ دو روز به شما غذا می دهم. پس در روز هفتم هیچ کسی نباید از خیمۀ خود بیرون برود.»

³⁰So the people rested on the seventh day.

³⁰بنابراین، مردم در روز هفتم به استراحت پرداختند.

³¹The house of Israel called its name Manna, “Manna” means “What is it?” and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey.

³¹بنی اسرائیل اسم این غذا را مَنّا (یعنی این چیست) گذاشتند. مَنّا شکل تخم گشنیز و مزۀ عسل را داشت.

³²Moses said, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, ‘Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.’”

³²موسی گفت: «خداوند هدایت فرموده است که از این نان به اندازۀ دو لیتر را به عنوان یادگار نگهدارید تا نسلهای آیندۀ ما نانی را که خداوند پس از خروج ما از مصر، در بیابان به ما داد، ببینند.»

³³Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up before Yahweh, to be kept throughout your generations.”

³³موسی به هارون گفت: «به اندازۀ دو لیتر مَنّا را در ظرفی بریز و آنرا به حضور خداوند تقدیم کن تا برای نسلهای آینده نگهداری شود.»

³⁴As Yahweh commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

³⁴همانطوری که خداوند به موسی هدایت داده بود، هارون ظرف مَنّا را برای نگهداری در مقابل صندوق پیمان گذاشت.

³⁵The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

³⁵بنی اسرائیل مدت چهل سال، یعنی تا رسیدن به سرزمین کنعان مَنّا خوردند.(عومر ظرفی بود که گنجایش دو لیتر را داشت. عومر یک دهم ایفه است و یک ایفه تقریباً مطابق بیست لیتر می باشد.)

³⁶Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel

³⁶(عومر ظرفی بود که گنجایش دو لیتر را داشت. عومر یک دهم ایفه است و یک ایفه تقریباً مطابق بیست لیتر می باشد.)
