1All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to Yahweh’s commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
1بنی اسرائیل از بیابان سینا کوچ کردند و طبق هدایت خداوند از یک جا به جای دیگری می رفتند. آن ها در رفیدیم خیمه زدند، ولی در آنجا آب برای نوشیدن نداشتند.
2Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”
2پس با اعتراض به موسی گفتند: «به ما آب بده تا بنوشیم.» موسی در جواب آن ها گفت: «چرا باز به گِله و شکایت شروع کردید؟ چرا خداوند را امتحان می کنید؟»
3The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
3اما مردم، چون بسیار تشنه بودند، به شکایت خود ادامه داده و به موسی گفتند: «چرا ما را از مصر بیرون آوردی؟ آیا ما و کودکان و گله های ما را بخاطر این آوردی که در این بیابان از تشنگی هلاک شویم؟»
4Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
4موسی به حضور خداوند دعا کرد و گفت: «با این قوم چه کنم، چون نزدیک است مرا سنگسار کنند؟»
5Yahweh said to Moses, “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
5خداوند به موسی فرمود: «چند نفر از بزرگان اسرائیل را با خود بردار و در پیشاپیش مردم برو.
6Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
6من در پیشروی تو بر صخره ای در کوه سینا می ایستم. با همان عصائی که به دریای نیل زدی، به آن صخره بزن تا از آن صخره آب جاری شود و مردم بنوشند.» پس موسی در حضور تمام بزرگان اسرائیل این کار را انجام داد.
7He called the name of the place Massah, Massah means testing. and Meribah, Meribah means quarreling. because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, “Is Yahweh among us, or not?”
7موسی آن محل را مسا و مریبا، (یعنی جای آزمایش و شکایت) نامید، زیرا قوم اسرائیل در آنجا به گِله و شکایت پرداختند و خداوند را امتحان کردند چون گفتند: «آیا خداوند با ما هست یا نی؟»
8Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
8عمالیق به رفیدیم آمدند تا با اسرائیلی ها بجنگند.
9Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
9موسی به یوشع گفت: «عده ای از مردها را انتخاب کن و فردا به جنگ عمالیق برو. من عصائی را که خداوند فرموده است با خود ببرم، به دست گرفته و بر قلۀ کوه می ایستم.»
10So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
10یوشع طبق هدایت موسی عمل کرد و به جنگ عمالیقی ها رفت. موسی و هارون و حور هم به قلۀ کوه رفتند.
11It happened, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
11تا زمانی که موسی دستهای خود را بالا نگاه می داشت، اسرائیلی ها پیروز می شدند، اما همینکه موسی دستهای خود را پائین می آورد عمالیقی ها بر آن ها غلبه می یافتند.
12But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
12وقتی دستهای موسی خسته شد، هارون و حور سنگی آوردند و موسی روی آن نشست و هارون و حور در دو طرف او ایستادند و دستهای او را بالا نگهداشتند. دستهای موسی تا غروب آفتاب بالا بود.
13Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
13به این ترتیب یوشع عمالیق را شکست داد.
14Yahweh said to Moses, “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky.”
14بعد از آن خداوند به موسی فرمود: «این پیروزی را به عنوان یادگار در کتاب بنویس و به یوشع بگو که من حتی نام عمالیق را هم از روی زمین محو می کنم.»
15Moses built an altar, and called its name Yahweh our Banner. Hebrew, Yahweh Nissi
15موسی در آنجا قربانگاهی ساخت و آن را «خداوند عَلَم من است» نامید.او گفت: «عَلَم خداوند را برافرازید و خداوند برای همیشه با مردم عمالیق در جنگ خواهد بود.»
16He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Yahweh will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.’”
16او گفت: «عَلَم خداوند را برافرازید و خداوند برای همیشه با مردم عمالیق در جنگ خواهد بود.»
