1In the third month after the children of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.
1بنی اسرائیل از رفیدیم حرکت کرده و در روز اول ماه سوم بعد از خروج از مصر به صحرای سینا رسیدند و در دامنۀ کوه سینا خیمه زدند.
2When they had departed from Rephidim, and had come to the wilderness of Sinai, they encamped in the wilderness; and there Israel encamped before the mountain.
2موسی به بالای کوه به ملاقات خدا رفت.
خداوند از کوه با موسی صحبت کرد و فرمود: «به بنی اسرائیل، اولادۀ یعقوب بگو:
3Moses went up to God, and Yahweh called to him out of the mountain, saying, “This is what you shall tell the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel:
3شما دیدید که من، خداوند، با مصریان چه کردم و چطور مثل عقابی که چوچه های خود را روی بالهای خود می برد، شما را نزد خود آوردم.
4‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself.
4حالا اگر شما از من اطاعت کنید و پیمان مرا نگهدارید، در بین تمام اقوام، شما قوم برگزیدۀ من خواهید بود. گرچه تمام روی زمین متعلق به من است،
5Now therefore, if you will indeed obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be my own possession from among all peoples; for all the earth is mine;
5اما شما برای من قوم مقدس و مانند کاهنان برای من خدمت خواهید کرد.»
6and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”
6موسی از کوه پائین آمد و تمام رهبران و بزرگان اسرائیل را جمع کرد و آنچه را که خداوند به او فرموده بود به آن ها باز گفت.
7Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which Yahweh commanded him.
7مردم همگی با یک صدا گفتند: «هرچه خداوند فرموده است، انجام خواهیم داد» و موسی جواب مردم را به خداوند عرض کرد.
8All the people answered together, and said, “All that Yahweh has spoken we will do.” Moses reported the words of the people to Yahweh.
8خداوند به موسی فرمود: «من در ابر غلیظی نزد تو می آیم تا وقتی با تو صحبت می کنم، مردم سخنان مرا بشنوند و از آن ببعد کلام ترا باور کنند.» موسی جواب مردم را به خداوند عرض کرد
9Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I come to you in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and may also believe you forever.” Moses told the words of the people to Yahweh.
9و خداوند فرمود: «به نزد مردم برو و به آن ها بگو که امروز و فردا خود را برای عبادت طاهر سازند و لباسهای خود را بشویند
10Yahweh said to Moses, “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments,
10و پس فردا همه حاضر و آماده باشند، چون در آن روز در برابر چشمان همه بر کوه سینا پائین می شوم.
11and be ready against the third day; for on the third day Yahweh will come down in the sight of all the people on Mount Sinai.
11در اطراف کوه حدودی را تعیین کن تا مردم از آن عبور نکنند. به آن ها بگو که از کوه بالا نروند و حتی به آن نزدیک هم نشوند. اگر کسی بر آن پا گذارد کشته خواهد شد.
12You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.
12آن شخص باید یا سنگسار شود و یا با تیر به قتل برسد بدون اینکه کسی به او دست بزند. این قانون شامل انسان و حیوان است. اما وقتی شیپور نواخته می شود، می توانند بالای کوه بروند.»
13No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether it is animal or man, he shall not live.’ When the trumpet sounds long, they shall come up to the mountain.”
13موسی از کوه پائین آمد و به مردم گفت که برای عبادت آماده شوند. آن ها لباسهای خود را شستند
14Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
14و موسی به آن ها گفت: «برای پس فردا آماده شوید و در این مدت از نزدیکی با همسران تان خودداری کنید.»
15He said to the people, “Be ready by the third day. Don’t have sexual relations with a woman.”
15صبح روز سوم صدای رعد و برق شنیده شد و ابر غلیظی روی کوه پدید گردید. سپس صدای بسیار بلند شیپور شنیده شد و همه مردمی که در خیمه گاه بودند از ترس به لرزه آمدند.
16It happened on the third day, when it was morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud on the mountain, and the sound of an exceedingly loud trumpet; and all the people who were in the camp trembled.
16آنگاه موسی مردم را از خیمه گاه بیرون برد و برای ملاقات خدا در دامنۀ کوه ایستادند.
17Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God; and they stood at the lower part of the mountain.
17تمام کوه سینا با دود پوشیده شد، زیرا خداوند در آتش بر روی کوه نزول فرمود. از کوه دودی بسان دود کوره برخاست و تمام کوه به شدت لرزید.
18Mount Sinai, all it, smoked, because Yahweh descended on it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked greatly.
18صدای شیپور هر لحظه بلندتر می شد. آنگاه موسی با خدا به صحبت پرداخت و خدا با صدائی همچون رعد به او جواب داد.
19When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.
19وقتی خداوند بر قلۀ کوه سینا نزول فرمود، موسی را به آنجا فراخواند و موسی هم به قلۀ کوه بالا رفت
20Yahweh came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain. Yahweh called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
20و خداوند به او فرمود: «پائین برو و به مردم بگو که از حدود معین تجاوز نکنند و برای دیدن من بالا نیایند. اگر چنین کنند بسیاری از آن ها کشته خواهند شد.
21Yahweh said to Moses, “Go down, warn the people, lest they break through to Yahweh to gaze, and many of them perish.
21حتی کاهنانی هم که به من نزدیک می شوند باید خود را تقدیس کنند. در غیر آن، آن ها را هم مجازات خواهم کرد.»
22Let the priests also, who come near to Yahweh, sanctify themselves, lest Yahweh break forth on them.”
22موسی به خداوند عرض کرد: «مردم نمی توانند از کوه بالا بیایند، زیرا تو به من امر کرده ای که کوه را مقدس شمرده حدودی به دور آن تعیین کنم.»
23Moses said to Yahweh, “The people can’t come up to Mount Sinai, for you warned us, saying, ‘Set bounds around the mountain, and sanctify it.’”
23خداوند فرمود: «پائین برو و هارون را با خود بیاور. اما کاهنان و مردم نباید از حد خود تجاوز کنند و برای دیدن من بالای کوه بیایند، ورنه مجازات خواهند شد.»موسی پائین رفت و آنچه را که خداوند فرموده بود، به قوم گفت.
24Yahweh said to him, “Go down and you shall bring Aaron up with you, but don’t let the priests and the people break through to come up to Yahweh, lest he break forth on them.”
24موسی پائین رفت و آنچه را که خداوند فرموده بود، به قوم گفت.
25So Moses went down to the people, and told them.
