1The burden of Damascus: “Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it will be a ruinous heap.
1خداوند در مورد دمشق چنین فرموده است: «دمشق از بین می رود و با خاک یکسان می شود.
2The cities of Aroer are forsaken. They will be for flocks, which shall lie down, and none shall make them afraid.
2شهرهای آن برای همیشه متروک می شوند. آنجا مسکن و چراگاه گوسفندان بوده کسی آن ها را نمی ترساند.
3The fortress shall cease from Ephraim, and the kingdom from Damascus, and the remnant of Syria. They will be as the glory of the children of Israel,” says Yahweh of Armies.
3اسرائیل بی دفاع می ماند، سلطنت دمشق سقوط می کند و بازماندگان سوریه مثل مردم اسرائیل خوار و ذلیل می شوند. این کلام خداوند قادر مطلق است.»
4“It will happen in that day that the glory of Jacob will be made thin, and the fatness of his flesh will become lean.
4خداوند، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «زمانی می رسد که عظمت اسرائیل از بین می رود و ثروتش تلف شده مردم همه تنگدست و فقیر می گردند.
5It will be like when the harvester gathers the wheat, and his arm reaps the grain. Yes, it will be like when one gleans grain in the valley of Rephaim.
5مانند کشتزارهای وادی رفائیم می شود که پس از درو چیزی در آن بجا نمی ماند.
6Yet gleanings will be left there, like the shaking of an olive tree, two or three olives in the top of the uppermost bough, four or five in the outermost branches of a fruitful tree,” says Yahweh, the God of Israel.
6از قوم اسرائیل عدۀ کمی باقی می ماند و مانند درخت زیتون که وقتی زیتونها تکانده شوند، تنها دو یا سه دانه در شاخهای بلند و چهار یا پنج دانه در شاخهای پُر آن بجا می مانند.»
7In that day, people will look to their Maker, and their eyes will have respect for the Holy One of Israel.
7در آن روز بسوی خالق خود که قدوس اسرائیل است رو می آورند
8They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands; neither shall they respect that which their fingers have made, either the Asherim, or the incense altars.
8و دیگر به بتهای ساختۀ دست خود، یعنی اَشیریم و قربانگاههای خوشبوئی متکی نمی باشند.
9In that day, their strong cities will be like the forsaken places in the woods and on the mountain top, which were forsaken from before the children of Israel; and it will be a desolation.
9در آن روز شهرهای مستحکم آن ها مثل شهرهای حویان و اموریان که در وقت فرار از دست قوم اسرائیل، از سکنه خالی ماندند، متروک می شوند.
10For you have forgotten the God of your salvation, and have not remembered the rock of your strength. Therefore you plant pleasant plants, and set out foreign seedlings.
10تو ای اسرائیل، خدای نجات بخشای خود را که مثل صخرۀ مستحکم از تو حمایت می کند، فراموش کرده ای و در عوض درختان را می کاری تا در زیر سایۀ آن ها خدایان بیگانه را بپرستی.
11In the day of your planting, you hedge it in. In the morning, you make your seed blossom, but the harvest flees away in the day of grief and of desperate sorrow.
11حتی اگر در همان روزی که درختان را می کاری، آن ها سبز شوند و شگوفه کنند، میوه ای بار نمی آورند و بجای آن اندوه و درد علاج ناپذیر نصیب تو می شود.
12Ah, the uproar of many peoples, who roar like the roaring of the seas; and the rushing of nations, that rush like the rushing of mighty waters!
12اقوام جهان مانند بحر می خروشند و مثل امواج سهمگین بحر می غرند
13The nations will rush like the rushing of many waters: but he will rebuke them, and they will flee far off, and will be chased like the chaff of the mountains before the wind, and like the whirling dust before the storm.
13و همچون سیل خروشان حمله می آورند، ولی آن ها با عتاب خداوند، مانند کاهی که در برابر باد و مثل غباری که در برابر گِردباد قرار گیرد به جاهای دور فرار می کنند.هنگام شب ترس و وحشت ایجاد می کنند، اما پیش از دمیدن صبح از بین می روند. اینست سزای کسانی که کشور ما را تاراج می کنند و دارائی و مال ما را به یغما می برند.
14At evening, behold, terror! Before the morning, they are no more. This is the portion of those who plunder us, and the lot of those who rob us.
14هنگام شب ترس و وحشت ایجاد می کنند، اما پیش از دمیدن صبح از بین می روند. اینست سزای کسانی که کشور ما را تاراج می کنند و دارائی و مال ما را به یغما می برند.
