1The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,
1خداوند کلام خود را برای ارمیا فرستاد:
2Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.
2«برخیز و به کارخانۀ کوزه گری برو. من در آنجا با تو حرف می زنم.»
3Then I went down to the potter’s house, and behold, he was making a work on the wheels.
3پس برخاستم و به کارخانۀ کوزه گری رفتم و کوزه گر را دیدم که بر سر چرخ دستگاه خود مصروف کار است،
4When the vessel that he made of the clay was marred in the hand of the potter, he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
4اما ظرفی که از گِل می ساخت در دست او ضایع گردید، پس دوباره ظرفی دیگری از همان گِل قرار دلخواه خود ساخت.
5Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,
5بعد خداوند فرمود:
6House of Israel, can’t I do with you as this potter? says Yahweh. Behold, as the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, house of Israel.
6«ای قوم اسرائیل، آیا من نمی توانم با شما همان رفتاری را کنم که کوزه گر با گِل خود کرد؟ همانطوری که گِل در دست کوزه گر است، شما هم در دست من می باشید.
7At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up and to break down and to destroy it;
7هرگاه اعلام کنم که قومی یا سلطنتی را ریشه کن و معدوم سازم،
8if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do to them.
8اگر آن مردم دست از شرارت بکشند، از عزم خود بازگشته و آن ها را از بین نمی برم.
9At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it;
9از طرف دیگر، هرگاه بگویم که اراده دارم قومی یا کشوری را مستقر و نیرومند سازم،
10if they do that which is evil in my sight, that they not obey my voice, then I will repent of the good, with which I said I would benefit them.
10اگر آن مردم در مقابل من شرارت ورزند و به کلام من گوش ندهند، آنوقت من از خوبی و نیت نیکی که برای شان در نظر داشتم خودداری می کنم.
11Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return you now everyone from his evil way, and amend your ways and your doings.
11پس حالا از جانب من به مردم یهودا و اهالی اورشلیم بگو که من تصمیم گرفته ام تا بلائی را بر سر شان بیاورم، پس آن ها باید اعمال زشت خود را ترک کنند و راه و روش خود را تغییر بدهند.
12But they say, It is in vain; for we will walk after our own devices, and we will do everyone after the stubbornness of his evil heart.
12اما آن ها می گویند: ما از خود نقشه هائی داریم و قرار میل دل متمرد خود زندگی می کنیم.»
13Therefore thus says Yahweh: Ask now among the nations, who has heard such things; the virgin of Israel has done a very horrible thing.
13خداوند می فرماید: «بروید و از اقوام دیگر بپرسید که آیا گاهی شنیده اند که قومی به چنین کار قبیحی دست زده باشد. قوم اسرائیل واقعاً مرتکب عمل زشتی شده است.
14Shall the snow of Lebanon fail from the rock of the field? Shall the cold waters that flow down from afar be dried up?
14کوههای لبنان هیچگاهی بدون برف نمی مانند و جویبارهای سرد کوهستانها هرگز خشک نمی شوند،
15For my people have forgotten me, they have burned incense to false gods; and they have been made to stumble in their ways, in the ancient paths, to walk in byways, in a way not built up;
15مگر قوم برگزیدۀ من مرا ترک کرده اند و برای بتهای بی جان قربانی سوختنی تقدیم می کنند. از راه راست منحرف شده اند، به راه هموار قدیم قدم بر نمی دارند و در بیراهی روان هستند.
16to make their land an astonishment, and a perpetual hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished, and shake his head.
16سرزمین خود را مایۀ تمسخر دیگران قرار داده اند و هر کسیکه از آن می گذرد، سر خود را بحال افسوس می جنباند و حیرت می کند.
17I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will show them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
17بنابران، مانند باد شرقی که گرد و خاک را به هوا پراگنده می کند، من هم قوم برگزیدۀ خود را در برابر دشمنان شان پراگنده می سازم. در روز مصیبت از آن ها رو بر می گردانم و به داد شان نمی رسم.»
18Then they said, Come, and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
18بعد مردم گفتند: «بیائید که کاری در حق ارمیا بکنیم! ما از خود کاهنانی داریم که احکام دینی را به ما تعلیم می دهند، حکیمان ما، ما را هدایت می کنند و انبیای ما هم پیام خداوند را برای ما می آورند. پس دیگر نباید به سخنان او گوش بدهیم. او را متهم می کنیم و محکومش سازیم.»
19Give heed to me, Yahweh, and listen to the voice of those who contend with me.
19آنگاه ارمیا دعا کرد و گفت: «ای خداوند، به سخنانم توجه فرما و حرفهای دشمنانم را بشنو که چه می گویند.
20Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn away your wrath from them.
20آیا لازم است به عوض خوبی هائی که در حق این مردم کرده ام، بدی ببینم؟ آن ها برای کشتن من دسیسه چیده اند. بخاطر داری که من در حضور تو از آن ها توصیف کردم و برای آن ها شفاعت نمودم تا از خشمت بگذری.
21Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives become childless, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, and their young men struck of the sword in battle.
21اما حالا می خواهم که فرزندان شان از گرسنگی بمیرند و با دَم شمشیر کشته شوند و جوانان آن ها در جنگ بقتل برسند. زنان شان بی اولاد و بیوه شوند و مردان شان از بیماری هلاک گردند.
22Let a cry be heard from their houses, when you shall bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
22غارتگران را ناگهان بر سر شان بفرست تا فریاد و فغان شان از خانه ها برخیزد. زیرا آن ها برای من چاه کنده و بر سر راه من دام نهاده اند.ای خداوند، خودت از دسیسه های آن ها برای قتل من خبر داری. از خطای آن ها چشم نپوش و گناهان شان را نادیده نگیر. آن ها را از حضور خود بران و در هنگام غضب با آن ها رفتار کن.»
23Yet, Yahweh, you know all their counsel against me to kill me; don’t forgive their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from your sight; but let them be overthrown before you; deal you with them in the time of your anger.
23ای خداوند، خودت از دسیسه های آن ها برای قتل من خبر داری. از خطای آن ها چشم نپوش و گناهان شان را نادیده نگیر. آن ها را از حضور خود بران و در هنگام غضب با آن ها رفتار کن.»
