¹Thus said Yahweh, Go, and buy a potter’s earthen bottle, and take some of the elders of the people, and of the elders of the priests;

¹خداوند به من فرمود که یک کوزۀ گِلی بخرم و با عده ای بزرگان قوم و کاهنان مو سفید

²and go forth to the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the gate Harsith, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell you;

²به وادی «بن هِنوم»، در کنار دروازۀ کوزه گران رفته، پیام خداوند را به آن ها برسانم

³and say, Hear the word of Yahweh, kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem: thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring evil on this place, which whoever hears, his ears shall tingle.

³و بگویم که خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «ای پادشاهان یهودا و اهالی اورشلیم، به پیام من گوش دهید! من می خواهم چنان بلائی را بر سر این شهر بیاورم که هر کسی که بشنود، تعجب کند،

⁴Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it to other gods, that they didn’t know, they and their fathers and the kings of Judah; and have filled this place with the blood of innocents,

⁴زیرا این مردم مرا ترک کرده اند و برای خدایان دیگر که نه خود شان، نه اجداد شان و نه پادشاهان یهودا آن ها را می شناسند، قربانی تقدیم می کنند و با این کار خود این جا را آلوده ساخته و خون بیگناهان را ریخته اند.

⁵and have built the high places of Baal, to burn their sons in the fire for burnt offerings to Baal; which I didn’t command, nor spoke it, neither came it into my mind:

⁵برای بتِ بعل قربانگاهها ساخته اند تا اطفال خود را بعنوان قربانی سوختنی بر آن ها بسوزانند. به کاری که من هرگز امر نکرده بودم و حتی از خاطرم نیز نگذشته بود، دست زدند.

⁶therefore, behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that this place shall no more be called Topheth, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of Slaughter.

⁶بنابران، روزی می رسد که این جا را «توفَت» یا «وادی بن هِنوم» نمی نامند، بلکه «وادی کشتار» نامیده می شود. خداوند فرموده است.

⁷I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those who seek their life: and their dead bodies will I give to be food for the birds of the sky, and for the animals of the earth.

⁷نقشه ها و تدبیرات یهودا و اورشلیم را خنثی می سازم و آن ها را با ضرب شمشیر دشمن و به دست کسانی که تشنۀ خون شان اند، هلاک می کنم. اجساد مردگان آن ها خوراکِ مرغان هوا و حیوانات روی زمین می شوند.

⁸I will make this city an astonishment, and a hissing; everyone who passes thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

⁸این شهر را طوری ویران می کنم که هر کسی که از آنجا بگذرد و آنهمه خرابی را ببیند، وحشت و تعجب کند.

⁹I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat everyone the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, with which their enemies, and those who seek their life, shall distress them.

⁹به دشمنان موقع می دهم که این شهر را محاصره کنند و اهالی آن را بکشند. و چنان مصیبتی را بر سر شان می آورم که مردم در داخل شهر گوشت یکدیگر و حتی گوشت فرزندان و دوستان خود را بخورند.»

¹⁰Then you shall break the bottle in the sight of the men who go with you,

¹⁰سپس خداوند به من فرمود که آن کوزه را در حضور مردانی که همراه من رفته بودند، بشکنم

¹¹and shall tell them, Thus says Yahweh of Armies: Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter’s vessel, that can’t be made whole again; and they shall bury in Topheth, until there is no place to bury.

¹¹و بگویم که خداوند قادر مطلق می فرماید: «مثل این کوزه ای که شکست و امکان ترمیم اش نیست، بدینگونه اورشلیم و اهالی آن هم از بین خواهند رفت. اجساد مقتولین در توفَت آنقدر زیاد می باشند که نمی توان همه را در آنجا دفن کرد.

¹²Thus will I do to this place, says Yahweh, and to its inhabitants, even making this city as Topheth:

¹²با این شهر و اهالی آن نیز همین کار را می کنم.

¹³and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, which are defiled, shall be as the place of Topheth, even all the houses on whose roofs they have burned incense to all the army of the sky, and have poured out drink offerings to other gods.

¹³خانه های اورشلیم، قصرهای پادشاهان و بتخانه ها را بر بامهای آن ها که برای آفتاب و مهتاب و ستارگان و خدایان دیگر قربانی و هدیه تقدیم کرده اند، نجس می سازم.»

¹⁴Then came Jeremiah from Topheth, where Yahweh had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of Yahweh’s house, and said to all the people:

¹⁴پس از آنکه ارمیا قرار امر خداوند در توفَت نبوت کرد و به اورشلیم برگشت، در حویلی عبادتگاه ایستاد و به تمام مردم گفتکه خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «من بر سر اورشلیم و شهرهای اطراف آن همه بلاهائی را که ذکر کردم، می آورم، زیرا آن ها با سرسختی از شنیدن کلام من خودداری کردند.»

¹⁵Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel, Behold, I will bring on this city and on all its towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it; because they have made their neck stiff, that they may not hear my words.

¹⁵که خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل می فرماید: «من بر سر اورشلیم و شهرهای اطراف آن همه بلاهائی را که ذکر کردم، می آورم، زیرا آن ها با سرسختی از شنیدن کلام من خودداری کردند.»
