¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of it, saying:

¹هنگامی که نبوکدنصر، پادشاه بابل با سپاه خود مردم و کشورهای تحت قیادت او علیه اورشلیم و شهرهای اطراف آن در حال جنگ بودند،

²Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Go, and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:

²خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل به من سخن فرمود و گفت:‏ «برو به صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا بگو که خداوند چنین می فرماید: «من اراده دارم که این شهر را به دست پادشاه بابل تسلیم کنم تا آن را آتش بزند.

³and you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.

³تو از دست او نجات نمی یابی، بلکه ترا دستگیر کرده به دست او می سپارند. تو با او شخصاً روبرو می شوی و او ترا به بابل اسیر می برد.

⁴Yet hear the word of Yahweh, O Zedekiah king of Judah: thus says Yahweh concerning you, You shall not die by the sword;

⁴پس ای صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا، به حرف خداوند گوش بده که می فرماید: تو در جنگ کشته نمی شوی،

⁵you shall die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so shall they make a burning for you; and they shall lament you, saying, Ah Lord! for I have spoken the word, says Yahweh.

⁵بلکه در آرامی و آسودگی می میری. همانطوری که برای اجدادت که پیش از تو پادشاه بودند، مراسم تدفین را اجراء می کردند، برای تو هم اجراء می کنند و برایت ماتم می گیرند و می گویند: «افسوس، که پادشاه ما فوت کرد!» و همین ارادۀ من است.»»

⁶Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,

⁶بعد ارمیای نبی آنچه را که خداوند فرموده بود در اورشلیم به صدقیا پادشاه گفت.

⁷when the king of Babylon’s army was fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these alone remained of the cities of Judah as fortified cities.

⁷در همین وقت سپاه پادشاه بابل علیه اورشلیم و شهرهای مستحکم لاکیش و عزیقه، یعنی شهرهای باقیماندۀ یهودا، می جنگید.

⁸The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them;

⁸بعد از آنکه صدقیا پادشاه به مردم اورشلیم وعده داد که تمام غلامان را آزاد می سازد، کلامی از جانب خداوند برای ارمیا آمد.

⁹that every man should let his male servant, and every man his female servant, who is a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free; that none should make bondservants of them, of a Jew his brother.

⁹صدقیا امر کرده بود که هر کسی که غلام یا کنیز یهودی دارد، باید او را آزاد کند و هیچ کس نباید غلام یهودی داشته باشد.

¹⁰All the princes and all the people obeyed, who had entered into the covenant, that everyone should let his male servant, and everyone his female servant, go free, that none should make bondservants of them any more; they obeyed, and let them go:

¹⁰بزرگان قوم و مردم امر او را بجا آوردند. همگی غلام و کنیز خود را آزاد کردند و وعده دادند که دیگر آن ها را دوباره غلام یا کنیز خود نسازند.

¹¹but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

¹¹اما چندی بعد قول خود را فراموش کردند و آن ها را دوباره غلام خود ساختند.

¹²Therefore the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

¹²به همین خاطر بود که کلام خداوند، خدای اسرائیل برای ارمیا رسید و فرمود:

¹³Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,

¹³«وقتی که اجداد تان را از مصر بیرون آوردم، با آن ها پیمانی بستم و گفتم که

¹⁴At the end of seven years you shall let go every man his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you, and has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you: but your fathers didn’t listen to me, neither inclined their ear.

¹⁴هر غلام عبرانی که مدت شش سال خدمت کند، در سال هفتم باید از خدمت آزاد شود. اما پدران شما به امر من توجه نکردند و به کلام من گوش ندادند.

¹⁵You had now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

¹⁵چندی قبل شما توبه کردید و مطابق رضای من اعلام نمودید که غلامهای تان را آزاد می کنید و در این مورد در عبادتگاهی که بنام من یاد می شود، با من عهد بستید.

¹⁶but you turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and you brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.

¹⁶اما بعداً تصمیم تان را عوض کردید و آزادی را که آرزوی شان بود، دوباره از آن ها گرفتید. آن ها را بزور غلام و کنیز خود ساختید و با این کار خود نام مرا بی حرمت کردید.

¹⁷Therefore thus says Yahweh: you have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim to you a liberty, says Yahweh, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.

¹⁷بنابران، چون شما از من، خداوند، اطاعت نکردید و به برادر و خواهر عبرانی تان آزادی نمی دهید، من هم شما را بوسیلۀ جنگ و قحطی و مرض از قید زندگی آزاد می کنم تا تمام اقوام جهان از شنیدن بلائی که من بر سر شما می آورم، به وحشت بیفتند.

¹⁸I will give the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between its parts;

¹⁸شما هنگام عقد این پیمان گوساله ای را دو نیم کردید و از میان آن گذشتید، اما پیمان تان را شکستید.

¹⁹the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;

¹⁹بنابران، من هم شما را با بزرگان يهودا و اورشليم، اهل دربار، خواجه ها، کاهنان و همه مردم، مثل همان گوساله پاره پاره می کنم.

²⁰I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and their dead bodies shall be for food to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth.

²⁰شما را به دست دشمنان تان و آنهائی که تشنۀ خون تان هستند، تسلیم می کنم تا کشته شوید و اجساد تان خوراک مرغان هوا و حیوانات وحشی گردند.

²¹Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, who have gone away from you.

²¹صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا را هم با بزرگان او به دست دشمنان و کسانی که قصد کشتن شان را دارند و به دست سپاه پادشاه بابل (هرچند که آن ها اینجا را ترک کرده اند) می سپارم.من به عساکر بابل امر می کنم که دوباره به این شهر برگردند، علیه آن بجنگند و تصرفش کنند. بعد آن را آتش بزنند و تمام شهرهای یهودا را ویران و خالی از سکنه می سازند.»

²²Behold, I will command, says Yahweh, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

²²من به عساکر بابل امر می کنم که دوباره به این شهر برگردند، علیه آن بجنگند و تصرفش کنند. بعد آن را آتش بزنند و تمام شهرهای یهودا را ویران و خالی از سکنه می سازند.»
