1Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.
1نبوکدنصر، پادشاه بابل، صدقیا (پسر یوشیا) را بجای یهویاکین (پسر یَهویاقیم) بعنوان پادشاه سرزمین یهودا تعیین کرد.
2But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, listened to the words of Yahweh, which he spoke by the prophet Jeremiah.
2اما نه او، نه اهل دربار و نه مردم آن سرزمین به پیام خداوند که توسط ارمیا برای آن ها فرستاد، گوش دادند.
3Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now to Yahweh our God for us.
3صدقیا پادشاه، یهوکل (پسر شلمیا) و سِفَنیای کاهن (پسر مَعَسیا) را پیش ارمیای نبی فرستاد تا از او درخواست کنند که بحضور خداوند، خدا برای قوم دعا کند.
4Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.
4در این وقت ارمیا هنوز زندانی نشده بود و می توانست آزادانه به هر جا که می خواست برود.
5Pharaoh’s army had come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans who were besieging Jerusalem heard news of them, they broke up from Jerusalem.
5در عین حال، سپاه فرعون به سرحد یهودا رسید، و چون کلدانیان که شهر اورشلیم را محاصره کرده بودند، از آمدن سپاه مصر اطلاع یافتند، عقب نشینی کردند.
6Then came the word of Yahweh to the prophet Jeremiah, saying,
6آنگاه خداوند، خدای اسرائیل به ارمیای نبی فرمود:
7Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, You shall tell the king of Judah, who sent you to me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.
7«به صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا بگو که عساکر مصر برای کمک شما آمده اند، اما آن ها به مصر بر می گردند
8The Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.
8و کلدانیان دوباره برای حمله بر این شهر می آیند. آن ها آن را تصرف می کنند و آتش می زنند.»
9Thus says Yahweh, Don’t deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.
9خداوند چنین می گوید: «خود را فریب ندهید و به این فکر نباشید که کلدانیان از شما دست بردار می شوند و می روند. آن ها یقیناً بر می گردند.
10For though you had struck the whole army of the Chaldeans who fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yes would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.
10حتی اگر شما بتوانید تمام سپاه کلدانیان را شکست بدهید و عده ای از آن ها زخمی در خیمه های خود باقی بمانند، همان عده بر می خیزند و شهر تان را آتش می زنند.»
11It happened that, when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
11وقتی عساکر کلدانیان بخاطر نزدیک شدن سپاه مصری از محاصرۀ اورشلیم دست کشیدند،
12then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.
12ارمیا اورشلیم را بقصد سرزمین بنیامین ترک کرد تا سهم مِلکیت خود را دریافت کند.
13When he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the guard was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, You are falling away to the Chaldeans.
13به مجردی که به دروازۀ بنیامین رسید، دروازه بان آنجا بنام یرئیا (پسر شلمیا، نواسۀ حننیا) او را توقیف کرده گفت: «تو به کلدانیان می پیوندی.»
14Then Jeremiah said, It is false; I am not falling away to the Chaldeans. But he didn’t listen to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.
14ارمیا گفت: «این حقیقت ندارد؛ من به کلدانیان نمی پیوندم.» اما یرئیا گوش نداد او را توقیف کرد و پیش بزرگان شهر برد.
15The princes were angry with Jeremiah, and struck him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.
15آن ها بر ارمیا خشمگین شدند، او را زدند و در خانۀ یُوناتان منشی که آنجا را به زندان تبدیل کرده بودند، زندانی ساختند.
16When Jeremiah had come into the dungeon house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;
16او مدت زیادی در یکی از سیاه چال های آنجا زندانی باقی ماند.
17Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from Yahweh? Jeremiah said, There is. He said also, You shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.
17چندی بعد صدقیا پادشاه، کسی را بدنبال او فرستاد و او را به قصر شاهی آورد. پادشاه از او مخفیانه سوال کرد: «آیا پیامی از جانب خداوند داری؟» او جواب داد: «بلی، دارم. خداوند فرموده است که به دست پادشاه بابل تسلیم می شوی.»
18Moreover Jeremiah said to king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against you, or against your servants, or against this people, that you have put me in prison?
18بعد ارمیا از صدقیا پادشاه پرسید: «چه جنایتی در مقابل بزرگان دربار تو و یا این مردم کرده ام که مرا به زندان انداخته اید؟
19Where now are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?
19کجا هستند آن انبیائی که می گفتند: پادشاه بابل بر شما و بر این سرزمین حمله نمی کند؟
20Now please hear, my lord the king: please let my supplication be presented before you, that you not cause me to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.
20پس ای پادشاه، لطفاً به سخنان من گوش بده و از روی مهربانی عرض مرا بشنو و مرا دوباره به آن سیاه چال نفرست، زیرا بطور یقین در آنجا می میرم.»پس صدقیا پادشاه امر کرد که او را در زندان قصر شاهی نگاهدارند. تا وقتی که نان در آن شهر پیدا می شد، هر روز یک قرص نان از نانوائی به او می دادند و او در زندان قصر باقی ماند.
21Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
21پس صدقیا پادشاه امر کرد که او را در زندان قصر شاهی نگاهدارند. تا وقتی که نان در آن شهر پیدا می شد، هر روز یک قرص نان از نانوائی به او می دادند و او در زندان قصر باقی ماند.
