1Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah, heard the words that Jeremiah spoke to all the people, saying,
1شِفَطیا (پسر مَتان)، جَدَلیا (پسر فَشحور)، یُوکَل (پسر شلمیا) و فَشحور (پسر مَلکیا) شنیدند که ارمیا به مردم گفت:
2Thus says Yahweh, He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence; but he who goes forth to the Chaldeans shall live, and his life shall be to him for a prey, and he shall live.
2«خداوند می فرماید: همه کسانی که در این شهر بمانند با شمشیر و در اثر قحطی و مرض می میرند، اما هر کسی که خود را تسلیم کلدانیان کند، حیاتش غنیمت شمرده شده، زنده می ماند.»
3Thus says Yahweh, This city shall surely be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it.
3خداوند چنین می گوید: «این شهر را یقیناً سپاه پادشاه بابل تصرف می کند.»
4Then the princes said to the king, “Please let this man be put to death; because he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such words to them: for this man doesn’t seek the welfare of this people, but the hurt.”
4وقتی آن ها سخنان او را شنیدند، پیش پادشاه رفتند و گفتند: «این شخص باید کشته شود، زیرا با سخنان بیهودۀ خود باعث می شود که عساکر باقیمانده و مردم جرأت خود را از دست بدهند. او طرفدار بهبودی مردم نیست، بلکه خواهان ضرر آن ها است.»
5Zedekiah the king said, Behold, he is in your hand; for the king is not he who can do anything against you.
5صدقیا پادشاه گفت: «بسیار خوب، اختیار او به دست شما است. من برخلاف میل شما کاری کرده نمی توانم.»
6Then took they Jeremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchijah the king’s son, that was in the court of the guard: and they let down Jeremiah with cords. In the dungeon there was no water, but mire; and Jeremiah sank in the mire.
6پس آن ها ارمیا را بردند و با ریسمان در چاهِ خانۀ شهزاده مَلکیا پائین کردند. آن چاه آب نداشت، ولی زمین آن پُر از گِل و لای بود و ارمیا در گل فرورفت.
7Now when Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, who was in the king’s house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon (the king then sitting in the gate of Benjamin),
7عبد ملک حبشی که یکی از خواجه سرایان قصر شاهی بود، وقتی خبر شد که ارمیا را در چاه انداخته اند، بلافاصله نزد پادشاه که پیش دروازۀ بنیامین نشسته بود، رفت و عرض کرد:
8Ebedmelech went forth out of the king’s house, and spoke to the king, saying,
8«ای پادشاه، این مردم کار بدی کردند که ارمیا را در چاه انداختند. او در آنجا از گرسنگی هلاک می شود، زیرا یک تکه نان هم در شهر پیدا نمی شود.»
9My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon; and he is likely to die in the place where he is, because of the famine; for there is no more bread in the city.
9پس پادشاه به عبد ملک حبشی گفت: «سی نفر را با خود ببر و ارمیای نبی را پیش از آنکه بمیرد از چاه بیرون آور.»
10Then the king commanded Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Take from here thirty men with you, and take up Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon, before he dies.
10عبد ملک فوراً سی نفر را با خود گرفته به قصر شاهی داخل شد و از تحویلخانۀ البسۀ آنجا چند پارچه و لباسهای کهنه را برداشته رفت و ذریعۀ ریسمان برای ارمیا در چاه پائین فرستاد
11So Ebedmelech took the men with him, and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took there rags and worn-out garments, and let them down by cords into the dungeon to Jeremiah.
11و به ارمیا گفت: «این پارچه ها را زیر بغل ات بگذار تا وقتی که ترا بالا می کشیم ریسمان افگارت نکند.» ارمیا چنان کرد.
12Ebedmelech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, Put now these rags and worn-out garments under your armpits under the cords. Jeremiah did so.
12بعد آن ها او را توسط ریسمان از چاه بیرون کشیدند و ارمیا را به زندان قصر شاهی بردند و او در همانجا ماند.
13So they drew up Jeremiah with the cords, and took him up out of the dungeon: and Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.
13چندی بعد، صدقیا ارمیای نبی را نزد خود فراخواند و او را پیش دروازۀ سوم عبادتگاه آوردند. پادشاه به ارمیا گفت: «من می خواهم از تو سوالی بکنم و تو باید حقیقت را بگوئی.»
14Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took Jeremiah the prophet to him into the third entry that is in the house of Yahweh: and the king said to Jeremiah, I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me.
14ارمیا گفت: «اگر حقیقت را بگویم، تو مرا می کشی و اگر ترا نصیحت کنم گوش نمی کنی.»
15Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? and if I give you counsel, you will not listen to me.
15پس پادشاه به او مخفیانه قول داد و قسم خورد و گفت: «به حیات خداوند که به ما زندگی می بخشد، سوگند یاد می کنم که قصد کشتنت را ندارم و ترا به دست کسانی که تشنۀ خون تو اند نمی سپارم.»
16So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, As Yahweh lives, who made us this soul, I will not put you to death, neither will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life.
16آنگاه ارمیا به صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا گفت که خداوند قادر مطلق، خدای اسرائیل چنین می فرماید: «اگر تو خود را تسلیم بزرگان پادشاه بابل کنی، زنده می مانی، این شهر آتش زده نمی شود و تو و خاندانت کشته نمی شوید.
17Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, Thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: If you will go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then your soul shall live, and this city shall not be burned with fire; and you shall live, and your house.
17اما اگر تسلیم نشوی، این شهر را کلدانیان تصرف می کنند و آتش می زنند. تو هم نمی توانی از دست آن ها فرار کنی.»
18But if you will not go forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and you shall not escape out of their hand.
18صدقیا پادشاه به ارمیا گفت: «من از یهودیانی که طرفدار کلدانیان هستند، می ترسم، زیرا ممکن است کلدانیان مرا به دست آن ها بسپارند و آن ها بلائی را بر سرم بیاورند.»
19Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who are fallen away to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
19ارمیا گفت: «ترا تسلیم نخواهند کرد. فقط از آنچه که خداوند می فرماید، اطاعت کن که بخیر تو است و زنده می مانی.
20But Jeremiah said, They shall not deliver you. Obey, I beg you, the voice of Yahweh, in that which I speak to you: so it shall be well with you, and your soul shall live.
20اما اگر نخواهی که تسلیم شوی، اینست چیزی که خداوند در رؤیا به من نشان داد:
21But if you refuse to go forth, this is the word that Yahweh has shown me:
21تمام زنانی که در قصر سلطنتی مانده اند، به دست سرکردگان سپاه بابل می افتند. وقتی که آن ها را بیرون می برند، می گویند: «دوستان معتمد تو به تو خیانت کردند و بر تو غالب شدند. حالا که پاهایت در گِل و لای فرو رفته است، ترا ترک کردند.»
22behold, all the women who are left in the king of Judah’s house shall be brought forth to the king of Babylon’s princes, and those women shall say, Your familiar friends have set you on, and have prevailed over you. Your feet are sunk in the mire, they have turned away back.
22همه زنها و فرزندانت به دست کلدانیان اسیر و غلام می شوند و خودت هم نمی توانی از دست شان فرار کنی، بلکه پادشاه بابل ترا دستگیر می کند و این شهر را آتش می زند.»
23They shall bring out all your wives and your children to the Chaldeans; and you shall not escape out of their hand, but shall be taken by the hand of the king of Babylon: and you shall cause this city to be burned with fire.
23صدقیا گفت: «از این سخنان ما نباید کسی خبر شود، مبادا جانت بخطر بیفتد.
24Then Zedekiah said to Jeremiah, Let no man know of these words, and you shall not die.
24اگر اهل دربار از ملاقات ما آگاه شوند و بیایند و به تو بگویند: «برای ما بگو که به پادشاه چه گفتی و او به تو چه گفت. چیزی را از ما پنهان نکن، ورنه کشته می شوی.»
25But if the princes hear that I have talked with you, and they come to you, and tell you, Declare to us now what you have said to the king; don’t hide it from us, and we will not put you to death; also what the king said to you:
25برای شان بگو که تو از من خواهش کردی که ترا واپس به خانۀ یُوناتان نفرستم، زیرا در آنجا خواهی مُرد.»
26then you shall tell them, I presented my supplication before the king, that he would not cause me to return to Jonathan’s house, to die there.
26براستی، اهل دربار به نزد ارمیا آمدند و در مورد ملاقاتش با پادشاه از او سوال کردند. ارمیا آنچه را که پادشاه به او یاد داده بود به آن ها گفت. بنابران، آن ها بیشتر سوالی نکردند، زیرا سخنان آن ها را کسی نشنیده بود.ارمیا تا روزی که اورشلیم تسخیر شد، در زندان قصر شاهی ماند.
27Then came all the princes to Jeremiah, and asked him; and he told them according to all these words that the king had commanded. So they left off speaking with him; for the matter was not perceived.
27ارمیا تا روزی که اورشلیم تسخیر شد، در زندان قصر شاهی ماند.
28So Jeremiah stayed in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
