¹When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.

¹پس از این سخنان، عیسی با شاگردان خود به آن طرف درۀ قِدرون رفت. در آنجا باغی بود که عیسی و شاگردانش وارد آن شدند.

²Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.

²یهودا که تسلیم کنندۀ او بود می دانست آن محل کجاست زیرا عیسی و شاگردانش بسیاری اوقات در آنجا جمع می شدند.

³Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

³پس یهودا یک دسته از عساکر و نگهبانانی را که سران کاهنان و پیروان فرقۀ فریسی فرستاده بودند با خود به آن باغ برد. آن ها مجهز به چراغ ها و مشعل ها و اسلحه بودند.

⁴Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went forth, and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”

⁴عیسی با وجودی که می دانست چه برایش واقع خواهد شد، پیش رفت و از آنها پرسید: «به دنبال چه کسی می گردید؟»

⁵They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

⁵به او گفتند: «به دنبال عیسی ناصری.» عیسی به آنها گفت: «من هستم» و یهودای خائن هم همراه آن ها بود.

⁶When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward, and fell to the ground.

⁶وقتی عیسی به آن ها گفت: «من هستم»، آنها عقب عقب رفته به زمین افتادند.

⁷Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁷پس عیسی بار دیگر پرسید: «به دنبال چه کسی می گردید؟» آن ها جواب دادند: «عیسی ناصری.»

⁸Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”

⁸عیسی گفت: «من که به شما گفتم خودم هستم. اگر دنبال من می گردید بگذارید اینها بروند.»

⁹that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.” John 6:39

⁹او این را گفت تا آنچه قبلاً فرموده بود تمام شود: «هیچ یک از کسانی که به من سپردی گم نشد.»

¹⁰Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

¹⁰آن گاه شمعون پِترُس شمشیری را که همراه داشت کشیده ضربه ای به نوکر کاهن اعظم که مَلوک نام داشت زد و گوش راست او را برید.

¹¹Jesus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”

¹¹عیسی به پِترُس گفت: «شمشیرت را غلاف کن. آیا جامی را که پدر به من داده است نباید بنوشم؟»

¹²So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

¹²سپس آن عساکر همراه فرماندۀ خود و نگهبانان یهود عیسی را دستگیر کرده، محکم بستند.

¹³and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

¹³ابتدا او را نزد حناس خسر قیافا که در آن موقع کاهن اعظم بود، بردند

¹⁴Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.

¹⁴و این همان قیافایی بود که به یهودیان گفته بود که به خیر و صلاح آنها است اگر یک نفر به خاطر قوم بمیرد.

¹⁵Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;

¹⁵شمعون پِترُس و یک شاگرد دیگر به دنبال عیسی رفتند و چون آن شاگرد با کاهن اعظم آشنایی داشت همراه عیسی به داخل حویلی کاهن اعظم رفت.

¹⁶but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.

¹⁶اما پِترُس در بیرون منزل نزدیک در ایستاد. پس آن شاگردی که با کاهن اعظم آشنایی داشت بیرون آمد و به دربان چیزی گفت و پِترُس را به داخل برد.

¹⁷Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”

¹⁷خادمه ای که دم در خدمت می کرد به پِترُس گفت: «مگر تو یکی از شاگردان این مرد نیستی؟» او گفت: «نه، نیستم.»

¹⁸Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.

¹⁸نوکران و نگهبانان آتش افروخته بودند زیرا هوا سرد بود و دور آتش ایستاده خود را گرم می کردند. پِترُس نیز پهلوی آنها ایستاده بود و خود را گرم می کرد.

¹⁹The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples, and about his teaching.

¹⁹کاهن اعظم از عیسی دربارۀ شاگردان و تعالیم او سؤالاتی کرد.

²⁰Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.

²⁰عیسی جواب داد: «من به طور آشکارا و در مقابل همه صحبت کرده ام. همیشه در کنیسه و در عبادتگاه یعنی در جایی که همۀ یهودیان جمع می شوند تعلیم داده ام و هیچ وقت در پنهانی چیزی نگفته ام.

²¹ Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, these know the things which I said.”

²¹پس چرا از من سؤال می کنی؟ از کسانی که سخنان مرا شنیده اند بپرس. آن ها می دانند چه گفته ام.»

²²When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”

²²وقتی عیسی این را گفت یکی از نگهبانان که در آنجا ایستاده بود به او سیلی زده گفت: «آیا این طور به کاهن اعظم جواب می دهی؟»

²³Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”

²³عیسی به او گفت: «اگر بد گفتم با دلیل خطای مرا ثابت کن و اگر درست جواب دادم چرا مرا می زنی؟»

²⁴Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.

²⁴سپس حناس او را دست بسته پیش قیافا کاهن اعظم فرستاد.

²⁵Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”

²⁵شمعون پِترُس در آنجا ایستاده بود و خود را گرم می کرد. عده ای از او پرسیدند: «مگر تو از شاگردان او نیستی؟» او منکر شد و گفت: «نه، نیستم.»

²⁶One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”

²⁶یکی از خدمتکاران کاهن اعظم که از خویشاوندان آن کسی بود که پِترُس گوشش را بریده بود به او گفت: «مگر من خودم تو را در باغ با او ندیدم؟»

²⁷Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.

²⁷پِترُس باز هم منکر شد و درست در همان وقت خروس بانگ زد.

²⁸They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

²⁸صبح وقت عیسی را از نزد قافیا به قصر والی بردند. یهودیان به قصر داخل نشدند مبادا نجس شوند و نتوانند غذای عید فِصَح را بخورند.

²⁹Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”

²⁹پس پیلاطُس بیرون آمد و از آن ها پرسید: «چه شکایتی بر ضد این مرد دارید؟»

³⁰They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

³⁰در جواب گفتند: «اگر جنایتکار نمی بود او را نزد تو نمی آوردیم.»

³¹Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,”

³¹پیلاطُس گفت: «او را ببرید و مطابق شریعت خود محاکمه نمائید.» یهودیان به او جواب دادند: «ما اجازه نداریم کسی را بکشیم.»

³²that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

³²و به این ترتیب آنچه که عیسی در اشاره به نحوۀ مرگ خود گفته بود، تمام شد.

³³Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”

³³سپس پیلاطُس به قصر برگشت و عیسی را خواسته از او پرسید: «آیا تو پادشاه یهود هستی؟»

³⁴Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”

³⁴عیسی جواب داد: «آیا این نظر خود توست یا دیگران دربارۀ من چنین گفته اند؟»

³⁵Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”

³⁵پیلاطُس گفت: «مگر من یهودی هستم؟ قوم خودت و سران کاهنان، تو را پیش من آورده اند. چه کرده ای؟»

³⁶Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”

³⁶عیسی جواب داد: «پادشاهی من متعلق به این دنیا نیست. اگر پادشاهی من به این دنیا تعلق می داشت، پیروان من می جنگیدند تا من به یهودیان تسلیم نشوم ولی پادشاهی من پادشاهی دنیوی نیست.»

³⁷Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

³⁷پیلاطُس به او گفت: «پس تو پادشاه هستی؟» عیسی جواب داد: «همانطور که می گویی هستم. من برای این متولد شده ام و به دنیا آمدم تا به راستی شهادت دهم و هر که راستی را دوست دارد سخنان مرا می شنود.»

³⁸Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

³⁸پیلاطُس گفت: «راستی چیست؟» پس از گفتن این سخن پیلاطُس باز پیش یهودیان رفت و به آن ها گفت: «من در این مرد هیچ جرمی نیافتم،

³⁹But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

³⁹ولی مطابق رسم شما من در روز فِصَح یکی از زندانیان را برای تان آزاد می کنم. آیا میخواهید که پادشاه یهود را برای تان آزاد سازم؟»آن ها همه فریاد کشیدند: «نه، او را نمی خواهیم، باراَبا را آزاد کن.» باراَبا یک راهزن بود.

⁴⁰Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.

⁴⁰آن ها همه فریاد کشیدند: «نه، او را نمی خواهیم، باراَبا را آزاد کن.» باراَبا یک راهزن بود.
