¹Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹بعد خداوند به یوشع فرمود که به قوم اسرائیل بگوید: «قراریکه بوسیلۀ موسی به شما هدایت داده بودم، شهرهائی را باید به عنوان پناهگاه انتخاب کنید، تا اگر کسی سهواً مرتکب قتل شود به یکی از آن شهرها پناه ببرد تا دست وابستگان شخص مقتول به او نرسد.

²“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses,

²شخص قاتل باید به یکی از آن شهرها فرار کند و در پیش دروازۀ دخول شهر بایستد و ماجرا را به مو سفیدان آن شهر بیان کند. و آن ها او را بداخل شهر ببرند و جائی برایش تهیه کنند و او پیش آن ها بماند.

³that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there. They shall be to you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

³و اگر خانوادۀ شخص مقتول برای انتقام بیایند، قاتل را به دست آن ها نسپارند، زیرا او سهواً و ندانسته مرتکب قتل همنوع خود شده است. و با مقتول کدام سابقۀ دشمنی نداشته است.

⁴He shall flee to one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city. They shall take him into the city with them, and give him a place, that he may live among them.

⁴و او در آنجا بماند تا وقتیکه برای محاکمه بحضور مردم حاضر شود. و تا روز مرگ کاهن اعظم وقت، از آنجا بیرون نرود. بعد از آن شخص قاتل می تواند به خانۀ خود و به شهری که از آن فرار کرده است، برگردد.»

⁵If the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him before.

⁵بنابران، شهر قادِش در جلیل، در کوهستان نَفتالی، شکیم در کوهستان افرایم، قریۀ اَربع (یعنی حِبرون) در کوهستان یهودا برای این منظور وقف شدند.

⁶He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days. Then the manslayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city he fled from.’”

⁶همچنین قرار امر خداوند سه شهر دیگر را در آن طرف دریای اُردن، در شرق اریحا انتخاب کرد که عبارت بودند از باصر، در بیابان قبیلۀ رؤبین، رامون در جِلعاد در سرزمین جاد، و جولان در باشان مربوط قبیلۀ مَنَسّی.اینها شهرهائی بودند برای مردم اسرائیل و بیگانگانی که با آن ها زندگی می کردند. و هر کسیکه تصادفاً مرتکب قتل می شد در آنجا پناه می بُرد تا به دست وابستگان شخص مقتول کشته نشود. و در آنجا تا روز محاکمۀ خود باقی می ماند.

⁷They set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.

⁷اینها شهرهائی بودند برای مردم اسرائیل و بیگانگانی که با آن ها زندگی می کردند. و هر کسیکه تصادفاً مرتکب قتل می شد در آنجا پناه می بُرد تا به دست وابستگان شخص مقتول کشته نشود. و در آنجا تا روز محاکمۀ خود باقی می ماند.

⁸Beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

⁹These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the alien who lives among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands before the congregation.
