1Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in.
1مردم اریحا دروازه های شهر را از ترس مردم اسرائیل بسته کرده بودند که نه کسی داخل شده می توانست و نه خارج.
2Yahweh said to Joshua, “Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty men of valor.
2خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «من شهر اریحا را با پادشاه و لشکر نیرومند آن به دست تو می دهم.
3All your men of war shall march around the city, going around the city once. You shall do this six days.
3تو با همه سپاه باید هر روزه برای شش روز بدور شهر بگردی.
4Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
4و هفت کاهن هر کدام با یک شیپور که از شاخ قوچ ساخته شده باشد، پیشروی صندوق پیمان حرکت کنند. در روز هفتم شهر را هفت مرتبه دور بزنید و کاهنان هم شیپور خود را بنوازند.
5It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.”
5و همینکه آواز بلند و طولانی شیپور کاهنان را شنیدید، همه مردم دیگر هم صدای خود را بسیار بلند کنند. آنوقت دیوارهای شهر اریحا فرو می ریزند و همۀ سپاه باید از هر سو به داخل شهر هجوم ببرند.»
6Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of Yahweh.”
6پس یوشع پسر نون، کاهنان را نزد خود فراخوانده به آن ها گفت: «صندوق پیمان را بگیرید و هفت نفر تان هرکدام با یک شیپور پیشاپیش صندوق پیمان حرکت کنند.»
7They said to the people, “Advance! March around the city, and let the armed men pass on before Yahweh’s ark.”
7و به مردم گفت: «شما بروید و به دَور شهر بگردید و مردان مسلح هم پیشتر از صندوق پیمان خداوند و کاهنان بروند.»
8It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh advanced, and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh followed them.
8قرار امر یوشع مردم براه افتادند و هفت کاهن شیپور شاخ قوچ را که با خود داشتند پیشاپیش صندوق پیمان خداوند به صدا درآوردند.
9The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went.
9مردان مسلح پیشاپیش کاهنان حرکت کردند و بقیۀ لشکر هم پشت سر همه رفتند.
10Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.”
10یوشع به مردم گفت: «تا وقتیکه من به شما نگویم هیچ کسی نباید صدائی برآورد و یا آوازی از او شنیده شود.»
11So he caused the ark of Yahweh to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.
11در آن روز صندوق پیمان خداوند را یکبار به دورادور شهر بردند و بعد برگشتند و شب را در خیمه گاه خود بسر بردند.
12Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.
12صبح وقت روز دیگر باز یوشع برخاست و کاهنان صندوق پیمان خداوند را گرفته در حالیکه شیپور خود را می نواختند با سپاه اسرائیل برای دفعۀ دوم شهر را دَور زدند. و به این ترتیب، برای شش روز همین کار را کردند.
13The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of Yahweh went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them. The rear guard came after the ark of Yahweh. The trumpets sounded as they went.
13ولی در روز هفتم هنگام طلوع صبح، برخاسته و هفت بار شهر را دَور زدند.
14The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days.
14در دفعۀ هفتم وقتیکه کاهنان شیپور خود را به صدا درآوردند، یوشع به مردم گفت: «فریاد کنید! زیرا خداوند این شهر را به ما داده است.
15It happened on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times.
15اما شهر و همه چیزهائی را که در آن است، حرام می باشند، پس آنرا از بین ببرید. اما به راحاب فاحشه و خانوادۀ او که به جاسوسان ما پناه داد، آسیب نرسانید.
16It happened at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city!
16شما باید هیچ چیزی را به غنیمت نگیرید و همه چیز باید از بین برده شود. در غیر آن بلای مدهشی بر سر همۀ مردم اسرائیل خواهد آمد.
17The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to Yahweh. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.
17ولی تمام اشیای طلا و نقره، ظروف مسی و آهنی وقف خداوند می باشد و باید به خزانۀ او آورد شود.»
18But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so would you make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.
18آنگاه همه فریاد برآوردند و شیپورها را نواختند. و به مجردیکه صدای فریاد شان بلند شد دیوارها فرو ریختند. آنگاه سپاه اسرائیل از هر سو به داخل شهر هجوم بردند و آنرا فتح کردند.
19But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy to Yahweh. They shall come into Yahweh’s treasury.”
19بعد همه چیز ـ زن و مرد، پیر و جوان، گاو، گوسفند و الاغ ـ را با دَم شمشیر از بین بردند.
20So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
20بعد یوشع به آن دو مردیکه برای جاسوسی به آن سرزمین آمده بودند گفت: «به خانۀ آن زن فاحشه بروید و به وعده ایکه داده اید، وفا کنید. و او را با تمام وابستگانش نجات بدهید.»
21They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword.
21پس آن دو جوان جاسوس رفتند و او را یافتند و با پدر، مادر، برادران و همه خویشاوندانش از خانه اش به جائیکه در بیرون اردوگاه برای شان ترتیب داده بودند، آوردند.
22Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring out from there the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.”
22آنگاه شهر را با همه چیزی که در آن بود، آتش زدند، بغیر از طلا و نقره و ظروف و آلات مسی و آهنی را که در خزانۀ خداوند نگهداشتند.
23The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel.
23به این ترتیب، یوشع راحابِ فاحشه را با خویشاوندان او که در خانه اش بودند نجات داد، زیرا او آن دو جاسوسی را که به اریحا آمده بودند، پناه داده بود. (و اولادۀ او تا به امروز در اسرائیل زندگی می کنند.)
24They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron into the treasury of Yahweh’s house.
24سپس یوشع مردم را قسم داده گفت: «بر هر کسیکه بخواهد شهر اریحا را دوباره آباد کند لعنت خدا باد. کسیکه بخواهد تهداب آن را بگذارد، به قیمت جان پسر اولباری اش تمام می شود. هر شخصیکه بکوشد دروازه های آن را بسازد، خوردترین پسر خود را از دست می دهد.»و خداوند با یوشع بود و نام او در سراسر آن سرزمین شهرت یافت.
25But Rahab the prostitute, her father’s household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
25و خداوند با یوشع بود و نام او در سراسر آن سرزمین شهرت یافت.
26Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before Yahweh, who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.”
27So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.
