1The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, “Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!”
1در این وقت مردم افرایم سپاه خود را جمع کرده به طرف شمال رفتند و در آنجا زبان به شکایت باز کرده به یِفتاح گفتند: «چرا وقتیکه بجنگ عمونیان رفتی از ما دعوت نکردی که همراه تو برویم؟ حالا ما خانه ات را بر سرت آتش می زنیم.»
2Jephthah said to them, “I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.
2یِفتاح گفت: «روزیکه من و همراهانم با دشمنان در جنگ بودیم، از شما کمک خواستیم، اما شما به کمک ما نیامدید.
3When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me this day, to fight against me?”
3بنابران، من جان خود را به خطر انداخته بجنگ عمونیان رفتم و با کمک خداوند آن ها را شکست دادم. حالا آمده اید و با ما دعوا می کنید.»
4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.”
4آنگاه یِفتاح مردان جِلعاد را جمع کرد و با افرایم جنگیدند و افرایم را شکست دادند. مردم افرایم گفته بودند: «شما فراریان افرایم هستید که در بین افرایم و مَنَسّی زندگی می کنید.»
5The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. It was so, that when the fugitives of Ephraim said, “Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “No”;
5و مردم جِلعاد گذرگاه های دریای اُردن را بروی افرایم بستند. و اگر یکی از فراریان افرایم می خواست از دریا عبور کند، پهره داران جلعاد می پرسیدند: «تو افرایمی هستی؟» اگر می گفت: «نی، نیستم.»
6then they said to him, “Now say ‘Shibboleth;’” and he said “Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it right: then they siezed him, and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.
6آن وقت پهره داران می گفتند: «بگو، شبولت.» اگر بعوض شبولت، سبولت می گفت، یعنی کلمه را بدرستی تلفظ نمی کرد، آنوقت او را می کشتند و در آن وقت چهل و دو هزار نفر از مردم افرایم کشته شدند.
7Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died, and was buried in the cities of Gilead.
7یِفتاح مدت شش سال داور اسرائیل بود. وقتی مُرد او را در یکی از شهرهای جِلعاد بخاک سپردند.
8After him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.
8بعد از یِفتاح، اِبصان بیت لحمی داور اسرائیل شد.
9He had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.
9او دارای سی پسر و سی دختر بود. او دختران خود را به خارج از قبیله به شوهر داد و برای پسران خود هم سی دختر بیگانه را به زنی گرفت. او مدت هفت سال بر اسرائیل داوری کرد.
10Ibzan died, and was buried at Bethlehem.
10بعد اِبصان مُرد و در بیت لحم دفن شد.
11After him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
11بعد از وفات اِبصان، ایلون زبولونی داور اسرائیل شد. او مدت ده سال بر اسرائیل داوری کرد.
12Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
12بعد از مرگش او را در اَیَلون واقع در زبولون دفن کردند.
13After him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
13پس از اَیَلون، عَبدون پسر هِلیلِ فِرعاتونی بر اسرائیل داوری کرد.
14He had forty sons and thirty sons’ sons, who rode on seventy donkey colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
14او دارای چهل پسر و سی نواسه بود که بر هفتاد الاغ سوار می شدند. بعد از آنکه هشت سال داوری کرد،وفات یافت و در کشور افرایم در کوهستان عمالَیقیان دفن شد.
15Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
15وفات یافت و در کشور افرایم در کوهستان عمالَیقیان دفن شد.
