¹Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.

¹یکروز شَمشون به تِمنَه رفت و در آنجا یک دختر فلسطینی را دید.

²He came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me as wife.”

²وقتی به خانه برگشت به پدر و مادر خود گفت: «من یک دختر فلسطینی را در تِمنَه دیدم و می خواهم با او عروسی کنم.»

³Then his father and his mother said to him, “Is there never a woman among the daughters of your brothers, or among all my people, that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines?” Samson said to his father, “Get her for me; for she pleases me well.”

³اما پدر و مادرش موافقه نکرده گفتند: «آیا در بین تمام خویشاوندان و اقوام ما دختر پیدا نمی شود که تو می روی و از بین فلسطینی ها بیگانه زن می گیری؟» شَمشون گفت: «او را برای من بگیرید، زیرا که او دختر دلخواه من است.»

⁴But his father and his mother didn’t know that it was of Yahweh; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines had rule over Israel.

⁴پدر و مادرش نمی دانستند که خواست و رضای خداوند همین بود، زیرا خداوند راهی برای سرکوبی فلسطینی ها می جُست. چونکه در آن زمان فلسطینی ها بر اسرائیل حکومت می کردند.

⁵Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnah, and came to the vineyards of Timnah: and behold, a young lion roared against him.

⁵پس شَمشون با والدین خود به تِمنَه رفت. در یک تاکستان بیرون شهر، دفعتاً شیر جوانی به شَمشون حمله کرد.

⁶The Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat; and he had nothing in his hand: but he didn’t tell his father or his mother what he had done.

⁶در همین اثنا روح خداوند به شَمشون قدرت بخشید و شَمشون مثل کسیکه بزغاله ای را از هم بدرد، آن شیر را با دست خالی دوپاره کرد. اما از کاری که کرده بود به پدر و مادر خود چیزی نگفت.

⁷He went down, and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.

⁷بعد رفت و با آن دختر حرف زد و از او زیادتر خوشش آمد.

⁸After a while he returned to take her; and he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion: and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.

⁸پس از مدتی، وقتی برای عروسی می رفت، راه خود را کج کرد و رفت تا لاشۀ شیر را ببیند، در آنجا یک خیل زنبور را با عسل در لاشۀ شیر دید.

⁹He took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went; and he came to his father and mother, and gave to them, and they ate: but he didn’t tell them that he had taken the honey out of the body of the lion.

⁹و قدری از عسل را گرفت و در راه خورده می رفت. و چون پیش پدر و مادر خود رسید به آن ها هم کمی از آن عسل داد و آن ها خوردند. اما شَمشون به آن ها نگفت که عسل را از لاشۀ شیر گرفته بود.

¹⁰His father went down to the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.

¹⁰وقتی پدرش پیش آن دختر رفت، شَمشون طبق رواج همان زمان دعوتی ترتیب داد و سی نفر از جوانان قریه را دعوت کرد.

¹¹It happened, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.

¹¹شَمشون به مهمانان گفت: «من یک چیستان برای تان می گویم. اگر شما در ظرف هفت روز بعد از این مهمانی آنرا حل کردید، من برای شما سی دست لباس ساده و سی دست لباس نفیس می دهم.

¹²Samson said to them, “Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can declare it to me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing;

¹²و اگر آنرا حل کرده نتوانستید شما باید به من سی دست لباس ساده و سی دست لباس نفیس بدهید.» آن ها گفتند: «بسیار خوب، چیستانت را به ما بگو.»

¹³but if you can’t declare it to me, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” They said to him, “Put forth your riddle, that we may hear it.”

¹³او برای شان گفت:«از خورنده خوراک به دست آمد و از زورآور شیرینی.» آن ها تا سه روز نتوانستند معنی چیستان را بگویند.

¹⁴He said to them, “Out of the eater came forth food. Out of the strong came forth sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.

¹⁴در روز چهارم آن ها پیش زن شَمشون آمدند و گفتند: «از شوهرت معنی چیستان را بپرس. در غیر آن ترا و خانۀ پدرت را در آتش می سوزانیم. آیا شما ما را به خاطر این دعوت کردید که نادار و فقیر شویم؟»

¹⁵It happened on the seventh day, that they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Is it not so?”

¹⁵پس زن شَمشون پیش شوهر خود گریه کرد و گفت: «از من بدت می آید. تو مرا اصلاً دوست نداری. تو به هموطنانم یک چیستان گفتی، اما معنی آنرا بیان نکردی.» شَمشون به او گفت: «ببین، من به پدر و مادرم در این باره چیزی نگفته ام. چرا برای تو بگویم؟»

¹⁶Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, “You just hate me, and don’t love me. You have put forth a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it me.” He said to her, “Behold, I haven’t told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell you?”

¹⁶بنابران، آن زن هفت روز گریه کرد و در روز هفتم بالاخره خُلق شَمشون تنگ شد و معنی آنرا برایش گفت. و آن زن به نوبۀ خود به هموطنان خود بیان کرد.

¹⁷She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it happened on the seventh day, that he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.

¹⁷آن ها در روز هفتم پیش از غروب آفتاب پیش شَمشون آمده به او گفتند:«شیرینتر از عسل چیست؟ قویتر از شیر کیست؟» شَمشون به آن ها گفت:«اگر با گاو من قلبه نمی کردید، چیستان مرا حل کرده نمی توانستید.»

¹⁸The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”

¹⁸آنگاه روح خداوند با تمام قدرت بر او آمد. بعد شَمشون به شهر اَشقَلُون رفت و سی نفر از باشندگان آنجا را کشت. دارائی شان را گرفت و آمد و لباسهای شان را به کسانی داد که چیستان را حل کرده بودند. بعد با خشم و غضب بخانۀ پدر خود برگشت.و زنش با رفیق او که دوست بسیار صمیمی اش بود، عروسی کرد.

¹⁹The Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and struck thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.

¹⁹و زنش با رفیق او که دوست بسیار صمیمی اش بود، عروسی کرد.

²⁰But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.
