1In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day, their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.
1طوریکه قبلاً گفته شد در آن زمان پادشاهی در اسرائیل نبود. در عین حال قبیلۀ دان در جستجوی جائی برای سکونت بود، زیرا تا آن وقت قبیلۀ دان تنها قبیله ای بود که هنوز ملکیت خود را در بین دیگر قبایل اسرائیل به دست نیاورده بود.
2The children of Dan sent of their family five men from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said to them, “Go, explore the land!” They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.
2بنابران، آن ها پنج نفر از جنگجویان ورزیدۀ خود را از زُرعه و اَشتاوُل فرستادند تا سرزمینی را که می خواستند در آن سکونت کنند، تحقیق و مطالعه نمایند. آن پنج نفر، نمایندگان تمام قبیله بودند. به آن ها گفتند: «بروید و آن سرزمین را بررسی کنید.» پس آن ها به کوهستان افرایم رفتند و در خانۀ میخا اقامت کردند.
3When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; and they turned aside there, and said to him, “Who brought you here? What do you do in this place? What do you have here?”
3آن ها در آنجا صدای لاوی جوان را شناختند. بعد او را به گوشه ای برده پرسیدند: «ترا چه کسی به اینجا آورد؟ در اینجا چه می کنی و وظیفه ات چیست؟»
4He said to them, “Thus and thus has Micah dealt with me, and he has hired me, and I am become his priest.”
4او از قراردادی که با میخا کرده بود به آن ها گفت و اضافه کرد که به عنوان کاهن شخصی او اجرای وظیفه می کند.
5They said to him, “Please ask counsel of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.”
5آن ها به او گفتند: «لطفاً از خداوند سوال کن که در این سفر خود کامیاب می شویم یا نه.»
6The priest said to them, “Go in peace. Your way in which you go is before Yahweh.”
6کاهن به آن ها گفت: «بخیر و بسلامتی بروید، زیرا در این سفر خداوند همراه شما است.»
7Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people who were therein, how they lived in security, in the way of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was none in the land, possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with any man.
7بعد آن پنج نفر براه افتادند و به لایش رسیدند. در آنجا مردمی را دیدند که مثل باشندگان سِیدون در امنیت و آرامی بسر می بردند و با خاطر جمعی و آسودگی زندگی می کردند، در روی زمین چیزی را کم نداشتند. همگی دارای ثروت بوده جدا از مردم صیدون می زیستند و زیر اثر هیچ صاحب اقتداری نبودند.
8They came to their brothers to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brothers said to them, “What do you say?”
8وقتی پیش مردم خود به زُرعه و اَشتاوُل برگشتند، مردم از آن ها پرسیدند: «چه خبر آوردید؟»
9They said, “Arise, and let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. Do you stand still? Don’t be slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.
9آن ها جواب دادند: «برای حمله آماده شوید. ما آن مُلک را دیدیم. یک زمین حاصلخیز و بسیار خوب است. معطل نشوید. بزودی بروید و آنرا به دست آورید.
10When you go, you shall come to a secure people, and the land is large; for God has given it into your hand, a place where there is no want of anything that is in the earth.”
10وقتی به آنجا رسیدید، مردمی را می بینید که بی دفاع هستند و کشور شان وسیع و دارای همه چیز است و خداوند آنرا به شما داده است.»
11There set forth from there of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girt with weapons of war.
11پس ششصد نفر از قبیلۀ دان همه مسلح به سلاح جنگی از زُرعه و اَشتاوُل حرکت کردند.
12They went up, and encamped in Kiriath Jearim, in Judah: therefore they called that place Mahaneh Dan, to this day; behold, it is behind Kiriath Jearim.
12و در راه سفر خود در قریۀ یعاریم، در سرزمین یهودا اردو زدند. و آن اردوگاه را که در غرب قریۀ یعاریم بود مِحنَه دان (یعنی اردوگاهِ دان) نامیدند که تا به امروز به همین نام یاد می شود.
13They passed there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.
13آن ها از آنجا گذشته به کوهستان افرایم و به خانۀ میخا آمدند.
14Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish answered, and said to their brothers, “Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and an engraved image, and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you have to do.”
14آن پنج نفر که برای جاسوسی به لایش رفته بودند، به مردم گفتند: «می دانید که در این خانه ها بت های تراشیده و ریختگی وجود دارند. پس حالا خوب فکر کنید که چه باید کرد.»
15They turned aside there, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even to the house of Micah, and asked him of his welfare.
15آن پنج نفر پیش جوان کاهن به خانۀ میخا رفتند و با او احوالپرسی کردند.
16The six hundred men girt with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.
16و آن ششصد نفر از مردان دان که مسلح با سلاح جنگی بودند در دهن دروازه ایستاده بودند.
17The five men who went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the engraved image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girt with weapons of war.
17آن پنج نفر جاسوس بداخل بتخانه رفتند و بت ها را گرفتند. در عین حال کاهن با مردان مسلح در دهن دروازه ایستاده بود.
18When these went into Micah’s house, and fetched the engraved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said to them, “What are you doing?”
18وقتی کاهن دید که آن ها مجسمه ها، یعنی ایفود و ترافیم را می برند، از آن ها پرسید: «چه می کنید؟»
19They said to him, “Hold your peace, put your hand on your mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?”
19آن ها جواب دادند: «خاموش باش! صدایت را بلند نکن! همراه ما بیا و پدر و کاهن ما باش. آیا بهتر است که کاهن خانۀ یکنفر باشی یا کاهن یک خانوادۀ قبیلۀ اسرائیل؟»
20The priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the engraved image, and went in the midst of the people.
20دل کاهن بسیار خوش شد و بت ها را گرفت و همراه آن ها رفت.
21So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the livestock and the goods before them.
21آن ها دوباره براه افتادند. اطفال، رمه و گله اموال خود را پیش انداختند.
22When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near to Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.
22پس از آنکه مسافت زیادی از آنجا دور شدند، مردمیکه در اطراف منزل میخا بودند یکجا جمع شده به تعقیب مردان قبیلۀ دان رفتند
23They cried to the children of Dan. They turned their faces, and said to Micah, “What ails you, that you come with such a company?”
23و صدا کردند که بایستند. آن ها برگشتند و از میخا پرسیدند: «ترا چه شده است که با این جمعیت آمده ای؟»
24He said, “You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and have gone away, and what more do I have? How then do you say to me, ‘What ails you?’”
24او جواب داد: «شما بتهای مرا که ساخته بودم و همچنین کاهن مرا گرفته بُردید. برای من چیزی باقی نمانده است. بازهم می پرسید: ترا چه شده است؟»
25The children of Dan said to him, “Don’t let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall on you, and you lose your life, with the lives of your household.”
25آن ها گفتند: «صدایت را بلند نکن، مبادا مردان بدخوی ما بشنوند و بر شما حمله کنند و شما و خانوادۀ تانرا بکشند.»
26The children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.
26مردم قبیلۀ دان این را گفته و براه خود ادامه دادند. و چون میخا فهمید که ایشان از او قوی ترند، برگشت و به خانۀ خود رفت.
27They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and secure, and struck them with the edge of the sword; and they burnt the city with fire.
27و مردان قبیلۀ دان آنچه را که میخا ساخته بود همراه با کاهن او برداشته، به لایش رفتند. مردم بی دفاع آنجا را با دَم شمشیر کشتند و شهر را آتش زدند.
28There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with any man; and it was in the valley that lies by Beth Rehob. They built the city, and lived therein.
28کسی نبود که به آن ها کمک کند، زیرا از سِیدون بسیار دور بودند و با مردمان دیگر هم رابطه ای نداشتند. آن شهر در یک وادی، در نزدیکی رِحوب، واقع بود. مردم قبیلۀ دان آن شهر را دوباره آباد کردند و در آنجا ساکن شدند.
29They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: however the name of the city was Laish at the first.
29و آن شهر را که قبلاً لایش نام داشت، به افتخار جَد خود، دان که یکی از پسران یعقوب بود، دان نامیدند.
30The children of Dan set up for themselves the engraved image: and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.
30مردم قبیلۀ دان بتها را در یک جای معین قرار دادند. یُوناتان، پسر جرشوم، نواسۀ موسی، و پسرانش کاهنان قبیلۀ دان بودند. و آن ها به این وظیفۀ خود، تا وقتیکه آن سرزمین به دست دشمنان افتاد، ادامه دادند.قبیلۀ دان تا روزیکه عبادتگاه در شیلوه بود، بتهای میخا را پرستش می کردند.
31So they set them up Micah’s engraved image which he made, all the time that God’s house was in Shiloh.
31قبیلۀ دان تا روزیکه عبادتگاه در شیلوه بود، بتهای میخا را پرستش می کردند.
