1Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to Yahweh at Mizpah.
1آنگاه تمام قوم اسرائیل از دان تا بئرشِبع بشمول باشندگان جلعاد، بحضور خداوند در مِصفه جمع شدند.
2The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.
2تعداد آن ها با سپاهی متشکل از پیاده و شمشیرزن و سرکردگان شان چهارصد هزار نفر بود که در آنجا بحضور خداوند حاضر بودند.
3(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, “Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?”
3(خبر اجتماع قوم اسرائیل بزودی به سرزمین بنیامین رسید.) مردان اسرائیل از شوهر زن مقتول پرسیدند: «حالا به ما بگو که این کار زشت چگونه رویداد؟»
4The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.
4مرد لاوی جواب داد: «من با کنیزم به جبعۀ بنیامین رفتم که شب را در آنجا بگذرانیم.
5The men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house by night. They thought to have slain me, and they forced my concubine, and she is dead.
5مردم جِبعَه به مخالفت من برخاستند. هنگام شب خانه ای را که من در آن بودم محاصره کردند و می خواستند که مرا بکشند. کنیز مرا بی عصمت کردند و در حقیقت او را کشتند.
6I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.
6من جسد کنیزم را قطعه قطعه کردم و آن قطعات را به سراسر سرزمین اسرائیل فرستادم، زیرا مردم جِبعَه کار بسیار زشت و ناروا در مقابل قوم اسرائیل کردند.
7Behold, you children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.”
7حالا شما مردم اسرائیل، در این باره فکر کنید و چاره ای بسنجید.»
8All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.
8مردم اسرائیل همگی با یکدل و یک زبان گفتند: «تا مردم جِبعَه را جزا ندهیم، هیچکدام ما به خانه و جای خود بر نمی گردیم. فیصلۀ ما اینست که قرار قرعه، ده فیصد تمام سپاه را انتخاب کرده تا آذوقه و لوازم جنگی ما را برسانند. بقیۀ ما می رویم و جِبعَه را بخاطر آن عمل زشت مردمش از بین می بریم.»
9But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;
9به این ترتیب، تمام قوم اسرائیل برای انجام این کار متحد شدند.
10and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have worked in Israel.”
10آن ها پیامی به این مضمون به قبیلۀ بنیامین فرستادند: «این کار زشت چرا در بین شما رُخداد؟
11So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
11پس حالا آن مردان پست و شریر را که در جِبعَه هستند، به دست ما تسلیم کنید تا آن ها را بقتل برسانیم.» اما مردم بنیامین به تقاضای برادران اسرائیلی خود گوش ندادند،
12The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that is happen among you?
12بلکه برعکس، آن ها همگی در بیرون شهر جِبعَه جمع و آماده شدند تا به جنگ اسرائیل بروند.
13Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers the children of Israel.
13و مردم بنیامین در آن روز بیست و شش هزار مرد شمشیرزن و هفتصد نفر هم از باشندگان جِبعَه را مجهز ساختند.
14The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.
14از آن جمله هفتصد نفر چپ دست را انتخاب کردند که هر کدام آن ها موئی را با فلاخن نشان می گرفتند و خطا نمی کردند.
15The children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.
15تعداد عساکر اسرائیل بغیر از مردان بنیامین چهارصد هزار نفر و همه مردان شمشیرزن و جنگی بودند.
16Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; everyone could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss.
16پیش از شروع جنگ، مردم اسرائیل به بیت ئیل رفتند و از خداوند مشوره خواسته پرسیدند: «کدام قبیله اول به جنگ بنیامین برود؟» خداوند در جواب فرمود: «قبیلۀ یهودا.»
17The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men who drew sword: all these were men of war.
17پس سپاه اسرائیل صبح وقت براه افتاده روانۀ جِبعَه شدند. و برای جنگ در مقابل لشکر بنیامین آمادۀ حمله گردیدند.
18The children of Israel arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God; and they said, “Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “Judah first.”
18سپاه بنیامین هم برای مقابله آمدند و در آن روز بیست و دو هزار نفر از عساکر اسرائیل کشته شدند.
19The children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
19اما مردم اسرائیل جرأت خود را از دست ندادند و بار دیگر برای جنگ صف آراستند و در همان جای سابق اردو زدند.
20The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
20قبل از جنگ، مردم اسرائیل بحضور خداوند تا به شام گریه کردند و از او مشوره خواسته پرسیدند: «آیا دوباره برویم و با برادران بنیامینی خود جنگ کنیم؟» خداوند فرمود: «بلی، بروید.»
21The children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty-two thousand men.
21پس سپاه اسرائیل روز دیگر برای جنگ به اردوی بنیامین نزدیک شدند.
22The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
22و لشکر بنیامین هم در همان روز برای مقابلۀ آن ها به جِبعَه رفت. باز از عساکر اسرائیل هجده هزار نفر بقتل رسیدند که همگی مردان شمشیرزن و جنگی بودند.
23The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said, “Go up against him.”
23بار دیگر مردم اسرائیل با تمام سپاه خود به بیت ئیل رفتند و به گریه شروع کردند. آن ها بحضور خداوند نشستند و تا شام روزه گرفتند. و قربانی سوختنی و صلح بحضور خداوند تقدیم کردند.
24The children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
24از او مشوره خواستند. (در آن روزها صندوق پیمان خداوند در بیت ئیل بود
25Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
25و فینِحاس پسر اَلِعازار، نواسۀ هارون هم کاهن آنجا بود.) آن ها از خداوند سوال کردند: «آیا به جنگ برادران بنیامینی خود برویم؟» خداوند جواب داد: «بلی، بروید، و من به شما کمک می کنم که فردا آن ها را شکست بدهید.»
26Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
26سپاه اسرائیل در اطراف جِبعَه کمین کردند.
27The children of Israel asked of Yahweh (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
27در روز سوم به مقابلۀ لشکر بنیامین رفتند و مثل دفعات گذشته در جِبعَه صف آرائی کردند.
28and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said, “Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”
28لشکر بنیامین هم برای حمله رفتند. سپاه اسرائیل عقب نشینی کردند و عساکر بنیامین به تعقیب شان از شهر دور شدند. و در شاهراهیکه بین بیت ئیل و جِبعَه بود، مثل دفعات پیشتر به کشتن آن ها شروع کردند. در نتیجه در حدود سی نفر از عساکر اسرائیلی بقتل رسیدند.
29Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.
29سپاه بنیامین گفتند: «باز آن ها را شکست دادیم.» اما عساکر اسرائیل قبلاً فیصله کرده بودند که از سپاه بنیامین فرار کنند تا آن ها زیادتر از شهر دور شوند.
30The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.
30در عین حال، لشکر اصلی اسرائیل هم به بَعل تامار رسیدند و حمله را شروع کردند.
31The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.
31و ده هزار عسکریکه در غرب جِبعَه کمین کرده بودند، از کمینگاه خارج شدند و جنگ سختی شروع شد. عساکر بنیامین خبر نداشتند که بلای ناگهانی بر سر شان آمدنی است.
32The children of Benjamin said, “They are struck down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”
32و خداوند به اسرائیلی ها کمک کرد که بنیامین را شکست بدهند و بیست و پنج هزار و یکصد نفر شان را که همه مردان شمشیرزن بودند در همان روز بقتل برسانند.
33All the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar: and the ambushers of Israel broke forth out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.
33بالاخره مردم بنیامین پی بردند که شکست خورده اند.خلاصه: سپاه اسرائیل عقب نشینی کرد تا به عساکر خود که در نزدیک جِبعَه کمین کرده بودند، موقع بدهد که حمله را شروع کنند.
34There came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that evil was close on them.
34و آن ها از کمینگاه خود بیرون شدند، با یک حملۀ ناگهانی بداخل شهر رفته همه باشندگان آنرا از دم تیغ کشیدند و شهر را آتش زدند.
35Yahweh struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all these drew the sword.
35و وقتیکه دود شهر به آسمان بلند شد، عساکر اسرائیل که در بیرون شهر بودند، برگشتند و بر لشکر بنیامین حمله کردند. (قبلاً قرار گذاشته بودند که بلند شدن دود شهر اشارۀ حمله به شهر است.)
36So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck; for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.
36عساکر بنیامین در این موقع به پشت سر خود نگاه کرده و بسیار پریشان شدند، چون دیدند که دود غلیظی از شهرشان به آسمان بلند می شود و بلای بزرگی بر سر شان آمده است.
37The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; and the ambushers drew themselves along, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
37بنابران، از سپاه اسرائیل فرار کرده به بیابان گریختند، اما عساکر اسرائیل به تعقیب شان بودند. و آنهائی که در داخل شهر بودند، بیرون شدند و از پشت سر همه را کشتند.
38Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.
38باقیماندۀ سپاه بنیامین را محاصره و تعقیب نموده از مَنوحه تا نزدیک جِبعَه در شرق، آن ها را پایمال کردند.
39The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”
39و هجده هزار عسکر بنیامین که همه مردان جنگی و دلاور بودند، بقتل رسیدند.
40But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to the sky.
40آنهائی که زنده ماندند به بیابان بطرف صخرۀ رِمون گریختند. اما پنجهزار نفر شان در راه فرار و دو هزار نفر در جدعوم که همگی مردان جنگی بودند، کشته شدند.
41The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that evil had come on them.
41و در همان روز تعداد عساکر بنیامین که همگی مردان جنگی بودند و به دست سپاه اسرائیل کشته شدند بیست و پنج هزار نفر بود.
42Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in its midst.
42اما تنها ششصد نفر توانستند به بیابان فرار کرده خود را به صخرۀ رِمون برسانند. و در آنجا مدت چهار ماه ماندند.بعد سپاه اسرائیل برگشته تمام مردم بنیامین را بشمول حیوانات و هر چیز دیگری که یافتند با دَم شمشیر از بین بردند.
43They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and trod them down at their resting place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrise.
43بعد سپاه اسرائیل برگشته تمام مردم بنیامین را بشمول حیوانات و هر چیز دیگری که یافتند با دَم شمشیر از بین بردند.
44There fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.
45They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck of them two thousand men.
46So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor.
47But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.
48The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the livestock, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
