1Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, “There shall not any of us give his daughter to Benjamin as wife.”
1مردم اسرائیل در مِصفه قسم خورده گفتند: «هیچ کسی از ما نباید بگذارد که دخترش با مرد بنیامینی عروسی کند.»
2The people came to Bethel, and sat there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept severely.
2و مردم همه در بیت ئیل اجتماع کرده تا شام در حضور خداوند نشستند و با آواز بلند زار زار گریه کردند
3They said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, why has this happened in Israel, that there should be today one tribe lacking in Israel?”
3و گفتند: «ای خداوند، خدای اسرائیل، چرا چنین مصیبتی بر سر مردم اسرائیل آمد؟ زیرا امروز یک قبیلۀ ما از بین رفت.»
4It happened on the next day that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.
4صبح وقت روز دیگر، مردم یک قربانگاه ساختند و قربانی های سوختنی و صلح تقدیم کردند.
5The children of Israel said, “Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up in the assembly to Yahweh?” For they had made a great oath concerning him who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah, saying, “He shall surely be put to death.”
5بعد پرسیدند: «کدام قبیلۀ اسرائیل در اجتماع ما بحضور خداوند حاضر نشد؟» آن ها قسم خورده بودند که اگر کسی بحضور خداوند در مِصفه نیاید حتماً کشته می شود.
6The children of Israel grieved for Benjamin their brother, and said, “There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
6و در عین زمان آن ها بخاطر برادران بنیامینی خود بسیار غمگین بودند و گفتند: «امروز یک قبیلۀ اسرائیل کم شد.
7How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since we have sworn by Yahweh that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?”
7حالا با مردانی که زنده مانده اند، چه کنیم؟ زیرا ما بنام خداوند قسم خورده ایم که دختران خود را به آن ها نمی دهیم.»
8They said, “What one is there of the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah?” Behold, there came none to the camp from Jabesh Gilead to the assembly.
8دوباره پرسیدند: «کدام قبیلۀ اسرائیل بحضور خداوند در مِصفه حاضر نشده است؟» بالاخره معلوم شد که از اردوگاه یابیش جِلعاد هیچ کسی نیامده بود.
9For when the people were numbered, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead there.
9زیرا وقتیکه سرشماری کردند، حتی یکنفر هم از باشندگان یابیش جِلعاد را در آنجا نیافتند.
10The congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, “Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.
10پس آن ها دوازده هزار از مردان دلیر خود را به آنجا فرستاده گفتند: «به یابیش جِلعاد بروید و همه باشندگان آنجا را بشمول زنها و کودکان با دَم شمشیر بکشید.
11This is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman who has lain with a man.”
11و شما باید همه مردان و همچنین زنانی را که باکره نیستند، بکلی از بین ببرید.»
12They found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins, who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.
12آن ها رفتند و در بین مردم جِلعاد چهارصد دختر جوان باکره را یافتند و آن ها را به اردوگاه شیلوه، در کشور کنعان آوردند.
13The whole congregation sent and spoke to the children of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace to them.
13بعد مردم اسرائیل به بازماندگان قبیلۀ بنیامین که در صخرۀ رِمون بودند، پیامی فرستاده پیشنهاد صلح کردند.
14Benjamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh Gilead: and yet so they weren’t enough for them.
14مردان بنیامین به شیلوه برگشتند و اسرائیل آن چهارصد دختری را که از یابیش جلعاد زنده آورده بودند به آن ها دادند. اما تعداد آن دخترها برای همۀ شان کافی نبود.
15The people grieved for Benjamin, because that Yahweh had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.
15مردم اسرائیل بسیار غمگین و متأثر بودند، زیرا خداوند بین آن ها نفاق انداخته بود.
16Then the elders of the congregation said, “How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?”
16سرکردگان قوم گفتند: «چون زنهای قبیلۀ بنیامین از بین رفته اند، پس برای بقیه مردان آن ها از کجا زن پیدا کنیم؟
17They said, “There must be an inheritance for those who are escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe not be blotted out from Israel.
17و بازماندگان قبیلۀ بنیامین باید وارث داشته باشند تا آن قبیله بکلی از بین نرود.
18However we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel had sworn, saying, ‘Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.’”
18در عین حال ما هم نمی توانیم که دختران خود را به آن ها بدهیم، زیرا قسم خورده ایم که: لعنت بر ما اگر دختران خود را به مردان بنیامینی بدهیم.»
19They said, “Behold, there is a feast of Yahweh from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.”
19بعد به فکر شان رسید که در شیلوه، بین لبونه و بیت ئیل در امتداد قسمت شرقی شاهراهی که از بیت ئیل به شکیم می رود، برای خداوند جشن سالانه برپا می شود.
20They commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, “Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,
20به مردان بنیامین گفتند: «بروید و در باغهای انگور پنهان شوید.
21and see, and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards, and each man catch his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.
21صبر کنید تا دختران شیلوه برای رقصیدن بیرون بیایند. آنگاه از مخفیگاه تان خارج شوید و هر کدام تان یکی از دخترها را برای خود گرفته به سرزمین بنیامین بروید.
22It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, ‘Grant them graciously to us, because we didn’t take for each man his wife in battle, neither did you give them to them, otherwise you would now be guilty.’”
22اگر پدر یا برادران شان پیش ما برای شکایت بیایند، ما به آن ها می گوئیم: آن ها را بخاطر ما ببخشید، زیرا ما وقتیکه یابیش جلعاد را از بین بردیم، برای هر کدام شان زن نیافتیم. در این مورد گناه شما نیست، زیرا شما خود تان دختران خود را به آن ها ندادید.»
23The children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of those who danced, whom they carried off. They went and returned to their inheritance, built the cities, and lived in them.
23مردان بنیامین طبق هدایت آن ها رفتار کردند و از میان دخترانی که در شیلوه می رقصیدند، هر یک برای خود زنی گرفته به مُلک خود بردند. سپس ایشان شهرهای خود را دوباره آباد کردند و در آن ها به زندگی شروع نمودند
24The children of Israel departed there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from there every man to his inheritance.
24و مردم اسرائیل هم هر کدام به قبیله و خانواده و مُلک خود برگشت.در آن ایام پادشاهی در اسرائیل نبود و مردم به دل خود هر کاری که می خواستند می کردند.
25In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.
25در آن ایام پادشاهی در اسرائیل نبود و مردم به دل خود هر کاری که می خواستند می کردند.
