1Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people who were with him, rose up early, and encamped beside the spring of Harod: and the camp of Midian was on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.
1صبح وقت روز دیگر، یَرُ بَعل، یعنی جِدعُون، با همه مردمی که با او بودند، رفت و در کنار چشمۀ حَرود خیمه زد. اردوگاه مدیانی ها در شمال آن ها، در پهلوی کوه موره، در وادی برپا بود.
2Yahweh said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hand, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’
2خداوند به جِدعُون فرمود: «تعداد افراد شما بسیار زیاد است. من به شما اجازه نمی دهم که با مدیانی ها جنگ کنید و آن ها را شکست بدهید، زیرا آنوقت خواهید گفت ما بزور خود، خود را نجات دادیم.
3Now therefore proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and trembling, let him return and depart from Mount Gilead.’” Twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained.
3به مردم بگو: هرکسیکه بُزدل است و از جنگ می ترسد، باید از کوه جِلعاد به خانۀ خود برگردد.» بیست و دو هزار نفر از آنجا برگشتند و تنها دَه هزار نفر شان باقی ماندند.
4Yahweh said to Gideon, “The people are still too many. Bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. It shall be, that of whom I tell you, ‘This shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whoever I tell you, ‘This shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.”
4خداوند به جِدعُون فرمود: «هنوز هم مردان تان زیاد است. آن ها را نزد چشمه ببر و آنجا من بتو نشان می دهم که چه کسانی بروند و چه کسانی بمانند.»
5So he brought down the people to the water; and Yahweh said to Gideon, “Everyone who laps of the water with his tongue, like a dog laps, you shall set him by himself; likewise everyone who bows down on his knees to drink.”
5پس جِدعُون آن ها را به کنار چشمۀ آب برد. خداوند به جِدعُون گفت: «آن ها را نظر به طرز آب خوردن شان به دو دسته تقسیم کن. کسانی که دهان خود را در آب گذاشته مثل سگها آب می نوشند، و آنهائی که زانو زده با دستهای خود آب می نوشند.»
6The number of those who lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, was three hundred men; but all the rest of the people bowed down on their knees to drink water.
6کسانیکه با دستهای خود آب نوشیدند سه صد نفر بودند. و بقیه زانو زده با دهان خود از چشمه آب نوشیدند.
7Yahweh said to Gideon, “By the three hundred men who lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand. Let all the other people go, each to his own place.”
7خداوند به جِدعُون گفت: «با همین سه صد نفر که با دستهای خود از چشمه آب نوشیدند، مدیانی ها را مغلوب می کنم. بقیه را به خانه های شان بفرست.»
8So the people took food in their hand, and their trumpets; and he sent all the men of Israel every man to his tent, but retained the three hundred men: and the camp of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
8پس جِدعُون تنها سه صد نفر را با خود نگهداشت و دیگران را پس از آنکه آذوقه و شیپورها را از آن ها جمع کرد به خانه های شان فرستاد. عساکر مدیانی ها در وادی پائین آن ها جمع شده بودند.
9It happened the same night, that Yahweh said to him, “Arise, go down into the camp; for I have delivered it into your hand.
9در همان شب خداوند به جِدعُون فرمود: «برو و به اردوی مدیانی ها حمله کن و من آن ها را به دست تو مغلوب می کنم.
10But if you are afraid to go down, go with Purah your servant down to the camp:
10و اگر می ترسی که حمله کنی، اول با خادمت، فوره به اردوگاه مدیانی ها برو
11and you shall hear what they say; and afterward your hands will be strengthened to go down into the camp.” Then went he down with Purah his servant to the outermost part of the armed men who were in the camp.
11و گوش بده که آن ها چه می گویند و آنوقت برای حمله جرأت پیدا می کنی.» پس جِدعُون همراه فوره به اردوگاه مردان مُسَلح دشمن رفت.
12The Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like locusts for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand which is on the seashore for multitude.
12مدیانی ها، عمالَقه و مردم مشرق زمین مثل مور و ملخ با شترهای شان که همچون ریگ دریا شمار نمی شدند، جمع شده بودند.
13When Gideon had come, behold, there was a man telling a dream to his fellow; and he said, “Behold, I dreamed a dream; and behold, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian, and came to the tent, and struck it so that it fell, and turned it upside down, so that the tent lay flat.”
13وقتی جِدعُون به اردوگاه دشمن رسید، یکی از مردان به رفیق خود خوابی را که دیده بود، بیان می کرد. گفت: «خواب دیدم که یک نان جَو در اردوی ما افتاد، به خیمه خورد، آنرا واژگون کرد و خیمه بر زمین هموار شد.»
14His fellow answered, “This is nothing other than the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel. God has delivered Midian into his hand, with all the army.”
14رفیقش گفت: «خواب تو فقط یک تعبیر دارد. به این معنی که جِدعُون پسر یوآش اسرائیلی با شمشیر می آید، زیرا خدا مدیانی ها را با تمام قوای اردو به دست او تسلیم کرده است.»
15It was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and its interpretation, that he worshiped; and he returned into the camp of Israel, and said, “Arise; for Yahweh has delivered the army of Midian into your hand!”
15وقتی جِدعُون قصۀ خواب و تعبیر آنرا شنید، به سجده افتاد و بعد به لشکرگاه اسرائیل برگشت و به مردم گفت: «برخیزید که خداوند سپاه مدیانی ها و متحدین آن ها را به دست ما داده است.»
16He divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put into the hands of all of them trumpets, and empty pitchers, with torches within the pitchers.
16بعد جِدعُون آن سه صد نفر را به سه دسته تقسیم کرد. به دست هر کدام یک شیپور و یک کوزۀ خالی داد. در بین هر کوزه یک مشعل را گذاشت.
17He said to them, “Watch me, and do likewise. Behold, when I come to the outermost part of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so you shall do.
17و به آن ها گفت: «وقتی به نزدیک اردوگاه دشمن رسیدیم فکر تان باشد که هرچه من کردم شما هم بکنید.
18When I blow the trumpet, I and all who are with me, then blow the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and shout, ‘For Yahweh and for Gideon!’”
18و چون من شیپور را نواختم، همه کسانیکه با من هستند شیپور های خود را در اطراف اردوگاه بنوازند و فریاد بزنند: شمشیر خداوند و جِدعُون!»
19So Gideon, and the hundred men who were with him, came to the outermost part of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch, when they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and broke in pieces the pitchers that were in their hands.
19پس جِدعُون و یکصد نفری که با او بودند بعد از نیمۀ شب، وقتیکه پهره تبدیل شد، شیپور های خود را به صدا درآوردند. و کوزه هائی را که در دست داشتند، شکستند.
20The three companies blew the trumpets, and broke the pitchers, and held the torches in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands with which to blow; and they shouted, “The sword of Yahweh and of Gideon!”
20و هر سه دسته شیپورها را نواختند و کوزه ها را شکستند. مشعلها را به دست چپ و شیپورها را به دست راست گرفته نواختند و فریاد برآوردند: «شمشیر خداوند و جِدعُون!»
21They each stood in his place around the camp; and all the army ran; and they shouted, and put them to flight.
21و همۀ شان در اطراف اردوگاه در جای خود ایستادند و سپاه بزرگ وحشتزده به هر طرف می دویدند و فریاد کنان فرار می کردند.
22They blew the three hundred trumpets, and Yahweh set every man’s sword against his fellow, and against all the army; and the army fled as far as Beth Shittah toward Zererah, as far as the border of Abel Meholah, by Tabbath.
22و به مجردیکه تمام سه صد نفر شیپور های خود را نواختند، خداوند عساکر دشمن را به جان همدیگر انداخت. و آن ها از سراسیمگی یکدیگر خود را از یک سر اردوگاه تا سر دیگر آن با شمشیر می کشتند. و شبانگاه تا بیت شطه به جانب صَریرَت و تا سرحد آبل، شهری که در نزدیکی طَبات است، فرار کردند.
23The men of Israel were gathered together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after Midian.
23جِدعُون به مردم قبایل نفتالی، اَشیر و مَنَسّی پیام فرستاد که بیایند و به تعقیب فراریان بروند.
24Gideon sent messengers throughout all the hill country of Ephraim, saying, “Come down against Midian, and take before them the waters, as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan!” So all the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and took the waters as far as Beth Barah, even the Jordan.
24او همچنین به تمام کوهستان افرایم قاصدانی را با این مضمون فرستاد: «به جنگ مدیانی ها بیائید و راه آب را تا بیت بارَه و همچنان آب دریای اُردن را بروی شان ببندید.»آن ها امر او را بجا آوردند و دو قوماندان سپاه مدیانی ها، یعنی غُراب و زیب را دستگیر کردند. غُراب را در پیش صخرۀ غُراب کشتند و زیب را در چرخُشتی که به اسم او نامیده می شد، به قتل رساندند. و بعد از آنکه مدیانی ها را فرار دادند، سرهای غُراب و زیب را به آن طرف اُردن پیش جِدعُون بردند.
25They took the two princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb; and they killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb they killed at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian: and they brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon beyond the Jordan.
25آن ها امر او را بجا آوردند و دو قوماندان سپاه مدیانی ها، یعنی غُراب و زیب را دستگیر کردند. غُراب را در پیش صخرۀ غُراب کشتند و زیب را در چرخُشتی که به اسم او نامیده می شد، به قتل رساندند. و بعد از آنکه مدیانی ها را فرار دادند، سرهای غُراب و زیب را به آن طرف اُردن پیش جِدعُون بردند.
