¹It happened, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him.

¹در یک روز سَبَت عیسی برای صرف غذا به منزل یکی از بزرگان فرقۀ فریسی رفت. آنها با دقت مراقب او بودند.

²Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.

²آنجا در برابر او مردی دیده می شد که مبتلا به مرض آب گرفتگی بود.

³Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

³عیسی از معلمان شریعت و فریسی ها پرسید: «آیا شفای بیماران در روز سَبَت جایز است یا نه؟»

⁴But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go.

⁴آن ها چیزی نگفتند. پس عیسی آن مرد را شفا داد و رخصت داد.

⁵He answered them, “Which of you, if your son TR reads “donkey” instead of “son” or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”

⁵بعد رو به آنها کرد و فرمود: «اگر پسر یا گاو یکی از شما در چاه بیفتد آیا بخاطر این که روز سَبَت است در بیرون آوردنش دچار تردید خواهید شد؟»

⁶They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.

⁶و آن ها برای این سؤال جوابی نیافتند.

⁷He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,

⁷وقتی عیسی دید که مهمانان چطور صدر مجلس را برای خود اختیار می کردند برای ایشان مَثَلی آورده گفت:

⁸ “When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,

⁸«وقتی کسی شما را به یک مجلس عروسی دعوت می کند در صدر مجلس ننشینید، زیرا امکان دارد که شخصی مهمتر از شما دعوت شده باشد

⁹ and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.

⁹و میزبان بیاید و به شما بگوید: «جای خود را به این آقا بده.» در آن صورت باید با شرمساری در پایین مجلس بنشینی.

¹⁰ But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.

¹⁰نخیر، وقتی دعوت از تو می شود برو و در پایین مجلس بنشین تا وقتی میزبان تو آمد، بگوید: «دوست من، بفرما بالا تر.» پس تمام مهمانان احترامی را که به تو می شود خواهند دید.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

¹¹چون هرکه خود را بزرگ سازد، خوار خواهد شد و هرکه خود را فروتن سازد سرافراز خواهد گردید.»

¹²He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.

¹²بعد به میزبان خود گفت: «وقتی مهمانی شام یا چاشت ترتیب می دهی دوستان، برادران و دیگر خویشان یا همسایگان ثروتمند خود را دعوت نکن مبادا آنها هم متقابلاً از تو دعوت کنند و به این ترتیب عوض خود را بگیری،

¹³ But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;

¹³بلکه وقتی مهمانی می دهی بینوایان و مفلوجان و لنگان و کورها را دعوت کن

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

¹⁴و خوشبخت خواهی بود چون آنها هیچگونه وسیلۀ عوض دادن ندارند و تو در آن روزی که عادلان زنده می شوند عوض خواهی گرفت.»

¹⁵When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in the Kingdom of God!”

¹⁵یکی از حاضران، بعد از شنیدن این سخنان به او عرض کرد: «خوشا به حال آن کسی که در پادشاهی خدا سر دسترخوان بنشیند.»

¹⁶But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.

¹⁶اما عیسی جواب داد: «مردی مهمانی شام بزرگی ترتیب داد و عدۀ زیادی را دعوت کرد.

¹⁷ He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’

¹⁷در وقت شام غلام خود را با پیغامی پیش مهمانان فرستاد که حالا بیائید، همه چیز حاضر است.

¹⁸ They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’

¹⁸اما همه شروع به عذر آوردن کردند. اولی گفت: «من قطعه زمینی خریده ام و باید بروم آن را ببینم. لطفاً عذر مرا بپذیر.»

¹⁹ “Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’

¹⁹دومی گفت: «من پنج جفت گاو خریده ام و حالا می روم آن ها را امتحان کنم. لطفاً مرا معذور بدار.»

²⁰ “Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’

²⁰نفر بعدی گفت: «من نو عروسی کرده ام و به این سبب نمی توانم بیایم.»

²¹ “That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’

²¹وقتی آن غلام برگشت و موضوع را به اطلاع ارباب خود رسانید، ارباب عصبانی شد و به او گفت: «زود به کوچه ها و پس کوچه های شهر برو و بینوایان و مفلوجان و کورها و لنگان را پیش من بیاور.»

²² “The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’

²²بعداً غلام گفت: «ارباب، امر تو اطاعت شد و هنوز هم جا هست.»

²³ “The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

²³ارباب جواب داد: «به سرکها و کوچه باغها برو و با اصرار همه را دعوت کن که بیایند تا خانۀ من پُر شود.

²⁴ For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper.’”

²⁴بدانید که هیچیک از آن کسانی که دعوت کرده بودم مزۀ این مهمانی را نخواهد چشید.»»

²⁵Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,

²⁵در بین راه جمعیت بزرگی همراه عیسی بود. او به آنها رو کرد و فرمود:

²⁶ “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard or, hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.

²⁶«اگر کسی پیش من بیاید و از پدر و مادر، زن و فرزند، برادران و خواهران و حتی جان خود دست نشوید نمی تواند شاگرد من باشد.

²⁷ Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.

²⁷کسی که صلیب خود را بر ندارد و با من نیاید نمی تواند شاگرد من باشد.

²⁸ For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?

²⁸اگر کسی از شما به فکر ساختن یک برج باشد، آیا اول نمی نشیند و مخارج آن را برآورد نمی کند تا ببیند آیا استطاعت تمام کردن آن را دارد یا نه؟

²⁹ Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,

²⁹در غیر اینصورت اگر پایۀ آن را بگذارد و بعد نتواند آن را تمام کند همۀ کسانی که آن را ببینند به او خواهند خندید

³⁰ saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’

³⁰و خواهند گفت: «این مرد ساختمانی را شروع کرد ولی نتوانست آن را تمام کند.»

³¹ Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

³¹یا کدام پادشاهی است که به جنگ پادشاه دیگری برود بدون آنکه اول بنشیند و مطالعه کند که آیا با ده هزار سپاهی می تواند با یک لشکر بیست هزار نفری مقابله کند؟

³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.

³²و اگر نتواند، او خیلی زودتر از اینکه دشمن سر برسد سفیری می فرستد و تقاضای صلح می کند.

³³ So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

³³همچنین اگر شما حاضر نیستید تمام هستی خود را از دست بدهید نمی توانید شاگرد من باشید.

³⁴ Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?

³⁴نمک چیز خوبی است اما اگر خود نمک بی مزه شود به چه وسیله مزۀ اصلی خود را باز یابد؟دیگر نه برای زمین مصرفی دارد و نه می توان بصورت کود از آن استفاده کرد. آن را فقط باید دور ریخت. اگر گوش شنوا دارید بشنوید.»

³⁵ It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

³⁵دیگر نه برای زمین مصرفی دارد و نه می توان بصورت کود از آن استفاده کرد. آن را فقط باید دور ریخت. اگر گوش شنوا دارید بشنوید.»
