¹Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men The word for “wise men” (magoi) can also mean teachers, scientists, physicians, astrologers, seers, interpreters of dreams, or sorcerers. from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,

¹عیسی در ایام زمامداری هیرودیسِ پادشاه، در بیت لِحِمِ یهودیه تولد یافت. پس از تولد او ستاره شناسان از مشرق زمین به اورشلیم آمده

²“Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”

²پرسیدند: «پادشاه نوزاد یهودیان کجاست؟ ما طلوع ستارۀ او را دیده و برای پرستش او آمده ایم.»

³When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

³وقتی هیرودیس پادشاه این را شنید، بسیار پریشان شد و تمام مردم اورشلیم نیز به تشویش افتادند.

⁴Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.

⁴او جلسه ای با شرکت سرانِ کاهنان و علمای دین قوم یهود تشکیل داد و دربارۀ محل تولد مسیح وعده شده از ایشان پرسید.

⁵They said to him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,

⁵آن ها جواب دادند: «در بیت لِحِمِ یهودیه، زیرا در نوشته های انبیا چنین آمده است:

⁶‘You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah: for out of you shall come forth a governor, who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’” Micah 5:2

⁶ای بیت لِحِم، در سرزمین یهودیه، تو به هیچ وجه از دیگر فرمانروایان یهودا کمتر نیستی، زیرا از تو پیشوائی ظهور خواهد کرد که قوم من اسرائیل را رهبری خواهد نمود.»

⁷Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.

⁷آنگاه هیرودیس از ستاره شناسان خواست بطور خصوصی با او ملاقات کنند و به این ترتیب از وقت دقیق ظهور ستاره آگاه شد.

⁸He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”

⁸و بعد از آن آن ها را به بیت لِحِم فرستاده گفت: «بروید و با دقت به دنبال آن کودک بگردید و همین که او را یافتید به من خبر دهید تا من هم بیایم و او را پرستش نمایم.»

⁹They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, until it came and stood over where the young child was.

⁹آنها بنا به فرمان پادشاه حرکت کردند و ستاره ای که طلوعش را دیده بودند پیشاپیش آنها می رفت تا در بالای مکانی که کودک در آن بود توقف کرد.

¹⁰When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.

¹⁰وقتی ستاره را دیدند، بی نهایت خوشحال شدند.

¹¹They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

¹¹پس به آن خانه داخل شدند و کودک را با مادرش مریم دیده و به روی در افتاده او را پرستش کردند. آنگاه صندوق های خود را باز کردند و هدایایی شامل طلا و کُندُر و مُر به او تقدیم نمودند.

¹²Being warned in a dream that they shouldn’t return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.

¹²چون در عالم خواب به آنها گفته شد، که به نزد هیرودیس باز نگردند، از راهی دیگر به وطن خود برگشتند.

¹³Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”

¹³پس از رفتن آنها فرشتۀ خداوند در خواب به یوسف ظاهر شده گفت: «برخیز، کودک و مادرش را بگیر و به مصر فرار کن و تا وقتی که به تو می گویم در آنجا بمان، زیرا هیرودیس می خواهد کودک را پیدا کند و به قتل برساند.»

¹⁴He arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt,

¹⁴پس یوسف برخاست و مادر و طفل را گرفته در همان شب عازم مصر شد.

¹⁵and was there until the death of Herod; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” Hosea 11:1

¹⁵و تا وقت مرگ هیرودیس در آنجا ماند و به این وسیله سخنی که خداوند به زبان نبی فرموده بود، تمام شد که: «پسر خود را از مصر فرا خواندم.»

¹⁶Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out, and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.

¹⁶وقتی هیرودیس متوجه شد که ستاره شناسان او را فریب داده اند بسیار غضبناک شد و فرمان قتل عام پسران دو ساله و کمتر را در بیت لحم و تمام اطراف آن مطابق تاریخی که از ستاره شناسان جویا شده بود صادر کرد.

¹⁷Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,

¹⁷به این ترتیب کلماتی که به وسیله ارمیای پیامبر بیان شده بود به حقیقت پیوست:

¹⁸“A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn’t be comforted, because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15

¹⁸«صدایی در رامه به گوش رسید. صدای گریه و ماتم بزرگ. راحیل برای فرزندان خود گریه می کرد و تسلی نمی پذیرفت زیرا آنها از بین رفته اند.»

¹⁹But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,

¹⁹پس از مرگ هیرودیس، فرشته خداوند در مصر در عالم خواب به یوسف ظاهر شده

²⁰“Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.”

²⁰به او گفت: «برخیز و کودک و مادرش را بگیر و به سرزمین اسرائیل روانه شو زیرا آن کسانی که قصد جان کودک را داشتند مرده اند.»

²¹He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

²¹پس او برخاسته کودک و مادرش را گرفت و به سرزمین اسرائیل برگشت.

²²But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,

²²ولی وقتی شنید که آرکلائوس به جای پدر خود هیرودیس در یهودیه به فرمانروائی رسیده است، ترسید که به آنجا برود و چون در خواب به او وحی رسید، به سرزمین جلیل رفتو درآنجا در شهری به نام ناصره ساکن شد. بدین طریق پیشگوئی پیغمبران که گفته بودند: «او ناصری خوانده خواهد شد» تمام شد.

²³and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

²³و درآنجا در شهری به نام ناصره ساکن شد. بدین طریق پیشگوئی پیغمبران که گفته بودند: «او ناصری خوانده خواهد شد» تمام شد.
