1But it happened that when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry, and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.
1وقتی سَنبَلَط شنید که ما یهودیان مشغول تعمیر دیوار هستیم، بشدت خشمگین شد
2He spoke before his brothers and the army of Samaria, and said, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they fortify themselves? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish, since they are burned?”
2و در حضور همراهان و افسران سامری، ما را مسخره کرده گفت: «این یهودیانِ بی عقل چه می کنند؟ آیا به این فکر هستند که با تقدیم قربانی می توانند در یک روز دیوار را بسازند؟ آیا می توانند از خرابه های این شهرِ سوخته، سنگهائی برای اعمار مجددِ دیوار تهیه کنند؟»
3Now Tobiah the Ammonite was by him, and he said, “What they are building, if a fox climbed up it, he would break down their stone wall.”
3طوبیا که در کنار او ایستاده بود با تمسخر گفت: «دیوار آنقدر سُست است که حتی اگر یک روباه از سر آن عبور کند، خراب می شود.»
4“Hear, our God; for we are despised; and turn back their reproach on their own head, give them up for a spoil in a land of captivity;
4آنگاه من دعا کردم: «ای خدای ما، دعای ما را بشنو! ببین که چگونه ما را مسخره می کنند. بگذار هر چه به ما می گویند، بر سر خودشان بیاید. آن ها را به سرزمین بیگانه تبعید کن تا مزۀ اسارت را بچشند.
5don’t cover their iniquity, and don’t let their sin be blotted out from before you; for they have insulted the builders.”
5این بدی آن ها را فراموش نکن و گناهان شان را نبخش، زیرا به ما که دیوار را تعمیر می کنیم، اهانت کرده اند.»
6So we built the wall; and all the wall was joined together to half its height: for the people had a mind to work.
6پس به آبادی دیوار ادامه دادیم و چیزی نگذشت که نصف ارتفاع آن تمام شد، زیرا مردم با اشتیاق زیاد کار می کردند.
7But it happened that when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabians, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem went forward, and that the breaches began to be filled, then they were very angry;
7وقتی سَنبَلَط، طوبیا، عَرَبها، عَمونی ها و اَشدُودِیها شنیدند که کار بسرعت پیش می رود و شگافهای دیوار تعمیر می شوند، بسیار خشمگین شدند
8and they conspired all of them together to come and fight against Jerusalem, and to cause confusion therein.
8و توطئه چیدند که به اورشلیم حمله آورند و آشوب برپا نمایند و از پیشرفت کار جلوگیری نمایند.
9But we made our prayer to our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.
9ما بحضور خدای خود دعا کردیم و برای حفظ جان خود، در شهر نگهبانانی را قرار دادیم تا شب و روز از آن مراقبت کنند.
10Judah said, “The strength of the bearers of burdens is fading, and there is much rubbish; so that we are not able to build the wall.”
10از طرف دیگر، کارفرمایان لب به اعتراض گشوده، گفتند: «کارگران خسته شده اند. خاک و سنگ آنقدر زیاد است که ما به تنهائی نمی توانیم آن ها را جمع کنیم و دیوار را تعمیر نمائیم.»
11Our adversaries said, “They shall not know, neither see, until we come into their midst, and kill them, and cause the work to cease.”
11ضمناً دشمنان ما توطئه می چیدند که مخفیانه بر ما هجوم آورند، ما را نابود کنند و از کار ما جلوگیری نمایند.
12It happened that when the Jews who lived by them came, they said to us ten times from all places, “Wherever you turn, they will attack us.”
12یهودیانی که در نزدیکی های شان زندگی می کردند، بارها به ما هُشدار دادند که مواظب حملۀ دشمنان باشیم.
13Therefore set I in the lowest parts of the space behind the wall, in the open places, I set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.
13پس، از هر خاندان نگهبانی تعیین کردم و آن ها را با شمشیر و نیزه و کمان مجهز ساختم تا در پشت دیوار بایستند و قسمتهائی را که در آنجا دیوار هنوز آباد نشده بود، محافظت کنند.
14I looked, and rose up, and said to the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them! Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”
14سپس با در نظر گرفتن موقعیتی که داشتیم، سران قوم و مردم را جمع کردم و به آن ها گفتم: «از کسی نترسید! فراموش نکنید که خداوند، عظیم و با هیبت است. پس بخاطر هموطنان و خانوادۀ خود بجنگید!»
15It happened, when our enemies heard that it was known to us, and God had brought their counsel to nothing, that we returned all of us to the wall, everyone to his work.
15دشمنان ما فهمیدند که ما به دسیسۀ شان پی برده ایم و خدا نقشۀ آن ها را باطل کرده است، پس ما بر سر کار خود بازگشتیم.
16It happened from that time forth, that half of my servants worked in the work, and half of them held the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the rulers were behind all the house of Judah.
16اما از آن روز به بعد، نصف کارگران کار می کردند و نصف دیگر با نیزه و سپر و کمان و زره مسلح شده، پهره می دادند. سران قوم از کسانی که مشغول تعمیر دیوار بودند حمایت می کردند. حتی کسانی که بار می بردند با یک دست کار می کردند و با دست دیگر اسلحه حمل می نمودند.
17They all built the wall and those who bore burdens loaded themselves; everyone with one of his hands worked in the work, and with the other held his weapon;
17هر یک از معماران نیز در حین کار شمشیر به کمر داشت. شخصی که مأمور نواختن زنگ خطر بود، در کنار من ایستاده بود تا در صورت مشاهدۀ خطر، زنگ را بصدا درآورد.
18and the builders, everyone wore his sword at his side, and so built. He who sounded the trumpet was by me.
18به سران قوم و مردم گفتم: «محل کار ما آنقدر وسیع است که ما بر سر دیوار، در فاصلۀ دور از یکدیگر قرار داریم،
19I said to the nobles, and to the rulers and to the rest of the people, “The work is great and large, and we are separated on the wall, one far from another.
19پس هر وقت صدای زنگ خطر را شنیدید، فوراً پیش من جمع شوید. خدای ما برای ما جنگ می کند.»
20Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally there to us. Our God will fight for us.”
20ما از طلوع تا غروب آفتاب کار می کردیم و همیشه نصف مردها پهره می دادند.
21So we worked in the work: and half of them held the spears from the rising of the morning until the stars appeared.
21ضمناً به کارفرمایان و معاونین آن ها گفتم که باید شبها در اورشلیم بمانند تا بتوانیم در شب پهره بدهیم و در روز کار کنیم.در تمام این مدت، همگی لباس خود را به تن داشتیم و همیشه مسلح بودیم. هم من، هم برادرانم، هم مردانم و هم محافظین من، حتی وقتی که برای آب خوردن می رفتیم، اسلحۀ خود را بزمین نمی گذاشتیم.
22Likewise at the same time said I to the people, “Let everyone with his servant lodge within Jerusalem, that in the night they may be a guard to us, and may labor in the day.”
22در تمام این مدت، همگی لباس خود را به تن داشتیم و همیشه مسلح بودیم. هم من، هم برادرانم، هم مردانم و هم محافظین من، حتی وقتی که برای آب خوردن می رفتیم، اسلحۀ خود را بزمین نمی گذاشتیم.
23So neither I, nor my brothers, nor my servants, nor the men of the guard who followed me, none of us took off our clothes. Everyone took his weapon to the water.
