1Then there arose a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brothers the Jews.
1در این وقت جنجال بزرگی برپا شد. عده ای از مردان و زنان از یهودیان هم نژاد خود شکایت کردند.
2For there were that said, “We, our sons and our daughters, are many. Let us get grain, that we may eat and live.”
2بعضی از آن ها گفتند: «تعداد افراد خانوادۀ ما زیاد است و ما نان کافی نداریم که بخوریم و زنده بمانیم.»
3Some also there were that said, “We are mortgaging our fields, and our vineyards, and our houses. Let us get grain, because of the famine.”
3عده ای دیگر می گفتند: «ما مجبوریم مزرعه، باغ انگور و حتی خانۀ خود را به گرو بگذاریم تا بتوانیم گندم تهیه کنیم و از گرسنگی تلف نشویم.»
4There were also some who said, “We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute using our fields and our vineyards as collateral.
4برخی دیگر نیز می گفتند: «ما پول قرض کرده ایم تا مالیات مزرعه و تاکستان خود را به پادشاه بپردازیم.
5Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brothers, our children as their children. Behold, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters have been brought into bondage. Neither is it in our power to help it; for other men have our fields and our vineyards.”
5ما هم نژاد یهودیان هستیم و فرزندان ما هم مثل فرزندان آن ها یهودی اند، اما ما مجبوریم که کودکان خود را به بردگی بفروشیم. قبلاً بعضی از دختران خود را فروخته ایم و پول نداریم که آن ها را پس بخریم، زیرا مزارع و تاکستان های ما هم در گرو هستند.»
6I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words.
6وقتی این شکایت را شنیدم بسیار خشمگین شدم
7Then I consulted with myself, and contended with the nobles and the rulers, and said to them, “You exact usury, everyone of his brother.” I held a great assembly against them.
7و پس از فکر کردن، رؤسا و بزرگان قوم را سرزنش کرده گفتم: «چرا بر یهودیان هم نژاد خود ظلم می کنید؟»
بعد عدۀ زیادی را جمع کردم و این یهودیان را به پای میز محاکمه کشیده
8I said to them, “We, after our ability, have redeemed our brothers the Jews that were sold to the nations; and would you even sell your brothers, and should they be sold to us?” Then they held their peace, and found never a word.
8گفتم: «ما تا آنجائی که توانسته ایم، یهودیان هم نژاد خود را که به اسارت فروخته شده بودند، پس خریده ایم. حالا شما آن ها را مجبور می کنید که خود را به شما بفروشند. آیا جایز است که یک یهودی به برادر یهودی خود فروخته شود؟» آن ها برای دفاع از خود جوابی نداشتند.
9Also I said, “The thing that you do is not good. Ought you not to walk in the fear of our God, because of the reproach of the nations our enemies?
9در ادامۀ حرفهایم گفتم: «کاری که شما می کنید خوب نیست! آیا از خدا نمی ترسید؟ چرا می خواهید کاری کنید که دشمنان ما، ما را مسخره کنند؟
10I likewise, my brothers and my servants, lend them money and grain. Please let us stop this usury.
10من و برادران و مردانم به یهودیان هم نژاد خود، بدون سود پول و غله قرض می دهیم. از شما هم می خواهم که از سودخوری دست بردارید.
11Please restore to them, even this day, their fields, their vineyards, their olive groves, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, that you are charging them.”
11مزارع، تاکستانها، باغهای زیتون و خانه های شان را و هم سودی را که از آن ها گرفته اید، همین امروز پس بدهید.»
12Then they said, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do, even as you say.” Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they would do according to this promise.
12رؤسا و بزرگان جواب دادند: «آنچه گفتی انجام خواهیم داد. املاک شان را به آن ها پس خواهیم داد و از آن ها چیزی مطالبه نخواهیم کرد.» آنگاه کاهنان را احضار کردم و از رؤسا و بزرگان خواستم در حضور آن ها قسم بخورند که این کار را خواهند کرد.
13Also I shook out my lap, and said, “So may God shake out every man from his house, and from his labor, that doesn’t perform this promise; even thus be he shaken out, and emptied.” All the assembly said, “Amen,” and praised Yahweh. The people did according to this promise.
13سپس دامن خود را تکان دادم و گفتم: «خدا این چنین شما را از خانه و دارائی تان بتکاند، اگر به قول خود وفا نکنید.» تمام قوم با صدای بلند گفتند: «آمین!» و خداوند را شکر کردند و رؤسا و بزرگان هم به قول خود وفا نمودند.
14Moreover from the time that I was appointed to be their governor in the land of Judah, from the twentieth year even to the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes the king, that is, twelve years, I and my brothers have not eaten the bread of the governor.
14ضمناً در طول دوازده سالی که من حاکم یهودا بودم، یعنی از سال بیستم تا سال سی و دومِ سلطنتِ اُردشیر، پادشاه فارس، نه خودم و نه یهودیان هم نژادم، از غذای مخصوص حاکمان استفاده نکردیم.
15But the former governors who were before me were supported by the people, and took bread and wine from them, besides forty shekels of silver; yes, even their servants ruled over the people: but I didn’t do so, because of the fear of God.
15حاکمان قبلی، علاوه بر خوراک و شرابی که از مردم می گرفتند، روزانه چهل مثقال نقره هم از آن ها مطالبه می کردند حتی مأمورین آن ها نیز بر مردم ظلم می نمودند. اما من هرگز چنین کاری نکردم، زیرا از خدا می ترسیدم.
16Yes, also I continued in the work of this wall, neither bought we any land: and all my servants were gathered there to the work.
16من تمام نیروی خود را صرف ساختن دیوار کردم و مزرعه ای برای خود نخریدم. از مأمورینم خواستم که وقت خود را صرف تعمیر دیوارِ شهر کنند.
17Moreover there were at my table, of the Jews and the rulers, one hundred fifty men, besides those who came to us from among the nations that were around us.
17از این گذشته، علاوه بر مهمانانی که از اقوام دیگر داشتم، هر روز یکصد و پنجاه نفر از مردم یهود و بزرگان شان بر سر سُفرۀ من غذا می خوردند.
18Now that which was prepared for one day was one ox and six choice sheep; also fowls were prepared for me, and once in ten days store of all sorts of wine: yet for all this I didn’t demand the bread of the governor, because the bondage was heavy on this people.
18هر روز یک گاو، شش گوسفند چاق و تعداد زیادی مرغ برای خوراک و هر ده روز یکبار، مقدار زیادی از انواع گوناگون شرابها را تهیه می کردم. باوجود این، هرگز از مردم نخواستم که سهمیۀ مخصوص را که به حاکمان تعلق داشت، به من بدهند، زیرا بار این مردم بقدر کافی سنگین بود.ای خدای من، مرا بیاد آور و بسبب آنچه که برای این قوم کرده ام، مرا برکت بده.
19Remember to me, my God, for good, all that I have done for this people.
