¹ Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

¹در روز اول ماه دوم سال دوم بعد از آنکه قوم اسرائیل از مصر خارج شدند و در حالیکه در بیابان سینا بسر می بردند، خداوند در خیمۀ عبادت به موسی فرمود:

²“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one;

²«تمام قوم اسرائیل را قرار قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کن.

³from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their divisions.

³تو و هارون همه مردان بیست ساله و بالا تر را که قادر به جنگیدن باشند، بشمارید

⁴With you there shall be a man of every tribe; everyone head of his fathers’ house.

⁴و سرکردۀ هر قبیله باید در این سرشماری کمک کند.»

⁵These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

⁵اینست نامهای سرکردگان هر قبیله: از قبیلۀ رؤبین: اَلیصور، پسر شَدیئور؛ از قبیلۀ شمعون: شلومی ئیل، پسر صوریشدای؛ از قبیلۀ یهودا: نحشون، پسر عمیناداب؛ از قبیلۀ ایسَسکار: نتنائیل، پسر صوغر؛ از قبیلۀ زبولون: اِلیاب، پسر حیلون؛ از قبیلۀ افرایم: الیشمع، پسر عمیهود؛ از قبیلۀ مَنَسّی: جَملی ئیل، پسر فَدَهسور؛ از قبیلۀ بنیامین: اَبیدان، پسر جِدعونی؛ از قبیلۀ دان: اَخیعَزَر، پسر عمیشدای؛ از قبیلۀ اَشیر: فَجعیئیل، پسر عُکران؛ از قبیلۀ جاد: اَلیاساف، پسر دعویل؛ از قبیلۀ نَفتالی: اَخیرَع، پسر عینان.

⁶Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

⁶این اشخاص سرکردگان قوم اسرائیل بودند که برای این کار انتخاب شدند.

⁷Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

⁷در همان روز موسی، هارون و سرکردگان قبایل، تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر بودند برای ثبت نام در بیابان سینا احضار کرده قراریکه خداوند به موسی امر فرموده بود، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری نمود.

⁸Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

⁸نتیجۀ نهائی آن از این قرار است: از قبیلۀ رؤبین (پسر اول یعقوب): همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و آمادۀ خدمت نظامی بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان چهل و شش هزار و پنجصد نفر بود.

⁹Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon.

⁹از قبیلۀ شمعون: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خانوادۀ شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان پنجاه و نُه هزار سیصد نفر بود.

¹⁰Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

¹⁰از قبیلۀ جاد: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان چهل و پنج هزار و ششصد و پنجاه نفر بود.

¹¹Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni.

¹¹از قبیلۀ یهودا: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان هفتاد و چهار هزار و ششصد نفر بود.

¹²Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

¹²از قبیلۀ ایسَسکار: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان پنجاه و چهار هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

¹³Of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran.

¹³از قبیلۀ زبولون: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان پنجاه و هفت هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

¹⁴Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

¹⁴از قبیلۀ افرایم (پسر یوسف): همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان چهل هزار و پنجصد نفر بود.

¹⁵Of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan.”

¹⁵از قبیلۀ مَنَسّی (پسر یوسف): همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان سی و دو هزار و دوصد نفر بود.

¹⁶These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

¹⁶از قبیلۀ بنیامین: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، بر حسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان سی و پنج هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

¹⁷Moses and Aaron took these men who are mentioned by name.

¹⁷از قبیلۀ دان: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان شصت و دو هزار و هفتصد نفر بود.

¹⁸They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.

¹⁸از قبیلۀ اَشیر: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان چهل و یکهزار و پنجصد نفر بود.

¹⁹As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

¹⁹از قبیلۀ نَفتالی: همه مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالا تر و برای خدمت نظامی آماده بودند، برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان سرشماری کرد، تعداد شان پنجاه و سه هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

²⁰The children of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁰قرار شرح فوق، جمع کل اشخاصی که بیست ساله و بالا تر و قادر به جنگیدن بودند و برحسب قبیله و خاندان شان ذریعۀ موسی و هارون و با کمک دوازده نمایندۀ دوازده قبیلۀ اسرائیل سرشماری شدند، ششصد و سه هزار و پنجصد و پنجاه نفر بود.

²¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

²¹اما قبیلۀ لاوی در این سرشماری شامل نبود،

²²Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those who were numbered of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²²زیرا خداوند به موسی فرموده بود: «قبیلۀ لاوی باید از خدمت نظامی معاف بوده شامل سرشماری نباشند.

²³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

²³در عوض آن ها را به وظایف مربوط به خیمۀ حضور خداوند، اثاثیه و لوازم آن بگمار و آن ها باید در جوار خیمۀ حضور خداوند سکونت داشته باشند.

²⁴Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁴هنگامی که خیمۀ حضور خداوند نقل داده می شود، لاویان باید آن را جمع کنند و در جای معینش دوباره برپا نمایند. اگر هر کس دیگر به آن نزدیک شود می میرد.

²⁵those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

²⁵هر قبیلۀ اسرائیل باید از خود اردوگاه علیحده داشته و دارای بیرق مخصوص باشد.

²⁶Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁶لاویان باید بَدَور خیمۀ حضور خداوند، خیمۀ خود را برپا کنند تا غضب من بالای مردم اسرائیل نیاید و تنها لاویان باید مسئول امور خیمۀ حضور خداوند باشند.»به این ترتیب آنچه را که خداوند توسط موسی امر فرموده بود، قوم اسرائیل بجا آوردند.

²⁷those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were sixty-four thousand six hundred.

²⁷به این ترتیب آنچه را که خداوند توسط موسی امر فرموده بود، قوم اسرائیل بجا آوردند.

²⁸Of the children of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

³⁰Of the children of Zebulun, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

³²Of the children of Joseph, of the children of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred.

³⁴Of the children of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁵those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

³⁶Of the children of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁷those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

³⁸Of the children of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

³⁹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

⁴⁰Of the children of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

⁴¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

⁴²Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

⁴³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁴⁴These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁵So all those who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel;

⁴⁶even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

⁴⁷But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁸For Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;

⁵⁰but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

⁵¹When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

⁵²The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.

⁵³But the Levites shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

⁵⁴Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.
