1The Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the South, heard tell that Israel came by the way of Atharim; and he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.
1وقتی پادشاه کنعانی سرزمین عَراد، واقع در جنوب کنعان، شنید که بنی اسرائیل از راه اتاریم می آیند بر آن ها حمله کرد و یک تعداد آن ها را اسیر گرفت.
2Israel vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”
2قوم اسرائیل نذر گرفتند که اگر خداوند به آن ها کمک فرماید که بر این قوم غالب شوند، تمام شهرهای آن ها را بکلی نابود می کنند.
3Yahweh listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah.
3خداوند دعای آن ها را شنید و کنعانیان را شکست داد و مردم اسرائیل آن ها را با شهرهای شان بکلی نابود کردند، بنابران، آنجا را حُرمه، (یعنی نابودی) نامیدند.
4They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.
4بعد از آن قوم اسرائیل از کوه هور حرکت کرده تا از راهی که به بحیرۀ احمر می رفت، کشور ادوم را دَور بزنند. اما بنی اسرائیل از این سفر طولانی بتنگ آمدند
5The people spoke against God, and against Moses, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loathes this light bread.”
5و از خدا و موسی شکایت کردند و گفتند: «چرا ما را از مصر آوردید تا در این بیابان بمیریم؟ نه چیزی است که بخوریم و نه آب است که بنوشیم. ما از خوردن این خوراک بی مزه خسته شده ایم.»
6Yahweh sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.
6آنگاه خداوند مارهای سمی را در بین شان فرستاد و آن ها را گزیدند و یک تعداد زیاد آن ها هلاک شدند.
7The people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, because we have spoken against Yahweh, and against you. Pray to Yahweh, that he take away the serpents from us.” Moses prayed for the people.
7مردم اسرائیل پیش موسی آمدند و گفتند: «ما گناه کرده ایم، زیرا علیه خداوند و علیه تو شکایت نموده ایم. پس بحضور خداوند دعا کن که ما را از شر این مارها نجات بدهد.» پس موسی برای آن ها دعا کرد.
8Yahweh said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a standard: and it shall happen, that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”
8خداوند به موسی فرمود: «یک مار برنجی بساز و بر پایه ای بیاویز، و هر گزیده شده ای که به آن نگاه کند، زنده می ماند.»
9Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it on the standard: and it happened, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked to the serpent of brass, he lived.
9پس موسی یک مار برنجی ساخت و آن را بر سر پایه ای آویخت و به مجردیکه مار گزیده ای به آن نگاه می کرد، شفا می یافت.
10The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in Oboth.
10بنی اسرائیل به سفر خود ادامه داده به اوبوت رسیدند و در آنجا خیمه زدند.
11They traveled from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrise.
11از آنجا به عَیی عباریم که در بیابان، در شرق موآب واقع بود، رفتند.
12From there they traveled, and encamped in the valley of Zered.
12سپس به وادی زارَد آمدند و در آنجا خیمه های خود را برافراشتند.
13From there they traveled, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that comes out of the border of the Amorites: for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
13بعد بطرف شمال دریای ارنون در نزدیکی سرحدات اموریان کوچ کردند. (دریای ارنون خط سرحدی بین موآبیان و اموریان است.)
14Therefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Yahweh, “Vaheb in Suphah, the valleys of the Arnon,
14در «کتاب جنگهای خداوند» در این زمینه اشاره شده است که شهر واهیب در سوفه و دره های ارنون
15the slope of the valleys that incline toward the dwelling of Ar, leans on the border of Moab.”
15و وادی های آن که بسوی مناطق عار هستند، در امتداد سرحد موآب واقع اند.
16From there they traveled to Beer: that is the well of which Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”
16سپس بنی اسرائیل سفر خود را به طرف بئر، یعنی چاه ادامه دادند. این همان جائی است که خداوند به موسی فرمود: «قوم اسرائیل را جمع کن و من به آن ها آب می دهم.»
17Then sang Israel this song: “Spring up, well; sing to it:
17آنگاه بنی اسرائیل این سرود را خواندند:«ای چاه فوران کن! برایش سرود بخوانید!
18the well, which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter, and with their poles.” From the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;
18این چاهی است که حاکمان کندند.
با عصای شاهی و با عصای بزرگان کنده شد.»قوم اسرائیل از بیابان به متانه حرکت کردند
19and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;
19و از آنجا به نحلی ئیل و بعد به باموت رفتند.
20and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the desert.
20از باموت به دره ای که در موآب واقع و مشرف به بیابان و کوه فِسجه است، رفتند.
21Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
21قوم اسرائیل نمایندگان خود را پیش سیحون، پادشاه اموریان فرستادند که این پیام را به او برسانند:
22“Let me pass through your land: we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed your border.”
22«به ما اجازه بدهید که از کشور تان عبور کنیم. ما وعده می دهیم که فقط از شاهراه برویم، به تاکستان های تان داخل نشویم و تا که در خاک شما باشیم حتی از آب شما هم ننوشیم.»
23Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel.
23اما سیحون به آن ها اجازه نداد که از خاک او عبور کنند. در عوض سپاه خود را جمع کرد و به مقابلۀ اسرائیل به بیابان رفت و در ناحیۀ یاهص با آن ها جنگید.
24Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.
24مردم اسرائیل بر آن ها غالب شدند؛ سیحون را کشتند و کشور شان را از دریای ارنون تا دریای یبوق و تا سرحد عمونیان تصرف کردند. از آنجا پیشتر رفته نتوانستند، زیرا که سرحد عمونیان از نگاه دفاعی بسیار مستحکم بود.
25Israel took all these cities: and Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its towns.
25بنی اسرائیل همه شهرهای اموریان را همراه با شهر حِشبون و دهات اطراف آن به دست آوردند و در آن ها ساکن شدند.
26For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.
26حِشبون پایتخت اموریان بود که سیحون قبلاً در جنگ با پادشاه سابق موآب آن را با تمام سرزمین آن ها تا دریای ارنون تصرف کرده بود.
27Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, “Come to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established;
27خوانندگان این قصیدۀ را برای حِشبون می سرودند:«به حِشبون بیائید و آنرا آباد کنید، پایتخت سیحون را بنا نمائید،
28for a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.
28زیرا آتشی از حِشبون برخاست و شهر عارِ موآب و بلندی های ارنون را بلعید.
29Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.
29وای بر تو ای موآب! ای قوم کموش هلاک شدید. پسرانش را فراری و دخترانش را به دست سیحون، پادشاه اموری اسیر ساخت.
30We have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon. We have laid waste even to Nophah, Which reaches to Medeba.”
30سعادت و کامرانی شان از حِشبون تا به دیبون ذوال شد و ما آن ها را تا نوفح که نزدیک میدِبا است از بین بردیم.»
31Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.
31به این ترتیب قوم اسرائیل در سرزمین اموریان ساکن شدند.
32Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took its towns, and drove out the Amorites who were there.
32موسی چند نفر را به یعزیر فرستاد تا وضع آنجا را مطالعه کنند. بعد قوم اسرائیل به آنجا حمله بردند و آن شهر را با دهات اطراف آن به دست آوردند و باشندگان آنجا را بیرون راندند.
33They turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.
33بعد برگشتند و بطرف باشان رفتند. اما عوج، پادشاه باشان با سپاه خود به مقابلۀ آن ها به اَدرَعی آمد.
34Yahweh said to Moses, “Don’t fear him: for I have delivered him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”
34خداوند به موسی فرمود: «از عوج نترس، زیرا من او را با مردم و سرزمین شان به دست تو تسلیم کرده ام و تو همان معامله ای را که با سیحون، پادشاه اموری در حِشبون کردی، با او هم بکن.»پس بنی اسرائیل عوج را با پسران و ساکنین آنجا بقتل رسانیدند و احدی را زنده نگذاشتند و مُلک شان را متصرف شدند.
35So they struck him, and his sons and all his people, until there was none left him remaining: and they possessed his land.
35پس بنی اسرائیل عوج را با پسران و ساکنین آنجا بقتل رسانیدند و احدی را زنده نگذاشتند و مُلک شان را متصرف شدند.
