1When Balaam saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel, he didn’t go, as at the other times, to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
1وقتی بِلعام دید که خداوند از برکت دادن به اسرائیل خوشنود شده است، مثل دفعات پیش به فال و افسون متوصل نشد، بلکه رو بطرف بیابان کرد
2Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came on him.
2و قوم اسرائیل را دید که قبیله قبیله در آنجا خیمه زده اند. آنگاه روح خدا بر او نازل شد
3He took up his parable, and said, “Balaam the son of Beor says, the man whose eye was closed says;
3و این کلام بر زبانش جاری شد:«وحی بِلعام پسر بِعور، وحی آن مردی که چشمانش باز شد؛
4he says, who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, and having his eyes open:
4وحی کسی که سخنان خدا را شنید، و رؤیائی را دید که خدای قادر مطلق نشان داد؛ رو به خاک افتاد و چشمانش باز شد.
5How goodly are your tents, Jacob, and your tents, Israel!
5ای بنی اسرائیل، خیمه های تان چقدر زیبا هستند! مساکن شما چقدر قشنگ اند. مانند باغهای کنار دریا،
6As valleys they are spread forth, as gardens by the riverside, as aloes which Yahweh has planted, as cedar trees beside the waters.
6همچون درختان عود که خداوند به دست خود غرس کرده باشد، و چون درختان سرو کنار جویهای آب، در برابر چشمان من قرار دارند.
7Water shall flow from his buckets. His seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag. His kingdom shall be exalted.
7دلوهای شان از آب لبریز می گردند. بذرهای شان با آب فراوان آبیاری می شوند. پادشاه آن ها بزرگتر از اَجاج می باشد و سلطنت شان مترقی می شود.
8God brings him out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox. He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.
8خدا آن ها را از مصر بیرون آورد. آن ها قدرتی مانند گاو وحشی دارند، و دشمنان خود را می بلعند. استخوان های شان را می شکنند و خُرد می کنند. با تیرهای خود آن ها را به زمین می دوزند.
9He couched, he lay down as a lion, as a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Everyone who blesses you is blessed. Everyone who curses you is cursed.”
9مانند شیر می خوابند و کسی جرأت آن را ندارد که آن ها را بیدار کند. کسی که ترا برکت بدهد، برکت ببیند و لعنت باد بر کسی که ترا لعنت کند.»
10Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, “I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times.
10آتش خشم بالاق بر بِلعام افروخته شد و در حالیکه دستهای خود را بهم می زد به بِلعام گفت: «من ترا فراخواندم که دشمن مرا نفرین کنی، اما تو برعکس، سه بار آن ها را برکت دادی.
11Therefore now flee you to your place! I thought to promote you to great honor; but, behold, Yahweh has kept you back from honor.”
11از اینجا زود برو و به خانه ات برگرد. من گفتم که به تو پاداش خوبی بدهم، اما خدا ترا از آن محروم ساخت.»
12Balaam said to Balak, “Didn’t I also tell your messengers who you sent to me, saying,
12بِلعام گفت: «من به قاصدانت گفتم
13‘If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond the word of Yahweh, to do either good or bad of my own mind. I will say what Yahweh says’?
13که اگر تو قصر خود را پُر از طلا و نقره کنی و به من بدهی، من نمی توانم از فرمان خداوند سرکشی نمایم و یا به دل خود کاری کنم. من هر چه را که خداوند بفرماید می گویم.
14Now, behold, I go to my people: come, I will inform you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.”
14حالا پیش قوم خود می روم، اما باید بدانی که در آینده قوم اسرائیل چه بلائی بر سر مردم تو می آورند.»
15He took up his parable, and said, “Balaam the son of Beor says, the man whose eye was closed says;
15آنگاه بِلعام چنین پیشگوئی کرد:«این است وحی بِلعام پسر بِعور، وحی مردی که چشمانش باز شد، وحی آن کسی که سخنان خدا را شنید
16he says, who hears the words of God, knows the knowledge of the Most High, and who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, and having his eyes open:
16و خدای متعال به او حکمت آموخت و رؤیائی را دید که خدای قادر مطلق به او نشان داد. او رو به خاک افتاد و چشمانش باز شد.
17I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Sheth.
17او را خواهم دید، اما نه حالا، او را تماشا خواهم کرد، ولی نه از نزدیک. پادشاهی همچون ستارۀ درخشانی در اسرائیل ظهور می کند. او سرکردگان موآب را شکست می دهد. مردم آشوبگر را سرکوب می کند،
18Edom shall be a possession. Seir, his enemies, also shall be a possession, while Israel does valiantly.
18و دشمنان خود را در ادوم شکست می دهد، مُلک و دارائی شان را تصرف می کند،
19Out of Jacob shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city.”
19اسرائیل به فتوحات خود ادامه می دهد، دشمنان را پایمال می سازد و یکنفر را هم زنده نمی گذارد.»
20He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction.”
20بعد بِلعام رو بطرف عمالیقیان نموده و این چنین پیشگوئی کرد: «عمالیقیان مقتدرترین همه اقوام بودند، اما سرانجام همه هلاک می شوند.»
21He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, “Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.
21سپس به قَینی ها نظر انداخت و این چنین پیشگوئی کرد: «جای سکونت شما مستحکم است و آشیانۀ تان بر صخره ای قرار دارد.
22Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive.”
22اما ای قَینی ها از بین می روید و لشکر نیرومند آشوریان شما را به اسارت می برد.»
23He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?
23بِلعام با این سخنان به پیشگوئی خود پایان بخشید: «افسوس که وقتی خدا این کار را انجام بدهد، هیچ کسی زنده نخواهد بود.
24But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber. He also shall come to destruction.”
24کشتی ها از سواحل قبرس می آیند آشور و عِبِر را سرکوب می سازند، اما خود آن ها هم نابود می شوند.»بعد بِلعام برخاست و به وطن خود برگشت و بالاق هم براه خود رفت.
25Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.
