1My son, don’t forget my teaching; but let your heart keep my commandments:
1فرزندم، هر چه به تو یاد می دهم فراموش مکن و آنچه به تو می گویم به خاطر بسپار.
2for length of days, and years of life, and peace, will they add to you.
2تعلیمات من، سلامتی و عمر طولانی به تو می بخشد.
3Don’t let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
3هرگز رحمت و راستی را از خود دور مکن، آن ها را زیب گردنت نما و بر لوحۀ سینه ات بنویس.
4So you will find favor, and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
4اگر چنین کنی، محبوبیت و رضامندی در نظر خدا و انسان خواهی یافت.
5Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding.
5از دل و جان بر خداوند توکل کن و بر عقل خود تکیه مکن.
6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
6در تمام کارهایت خداوند را به خاطر داشته باش و او راه ترا راست می گرداند.
7Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.
7از عقل و حکمت خود لاف نزن، از خداوند بترس و از بدی دوری کن.
8It will be health to your body, and nourishment to your bones.
8اگر چنین کنی، شفا یافته نیرو و قوّت به دست می آوری.
9Honor Yahweh with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase:
9خداوند را احترام نما و از دارائی خود و از اولین محصول زمین خود قسمتی را به او تقدیم کن.
10so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.
10اگر چنین کنی انبارهایت پُر از نعمت و خمره هایت پُر از شیرۀ انگور خواهد شد.
11My son, don’t despise Yahweh’s discipline, neither be weary of his reproof:
11وقتی خداوند تو را اصلاح می کند، خوب توجه کن و وقتی تو را سرزنش می کند، دلگیر نشو.
12for whom Yahweh loves, he reproves; even as a father reproves the son in whom he delights.
12همان طوریکه هر پدرِ با محبت، برای اصلاح فرزند محبوب خود، او را سرزنش می کند، خداوند هم ترا اصلاح می نماید.
13Happy is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gets understanding.
13خوشا به حال کسی که عقل و هوش می یابد،
14For her good profit is better than getting silver, and her return is better than fine gold.
14زیرا ارزش آن از طلا و نقره بیشتر است.
15She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her.
15حکمت از جواهرات گرانبهاتر و از هرچه آرزو کنی با ارزش تر است.
16Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor.
16حکمت به تو عمر طولانی و ثروت و احترام عطا می کند.
17Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are peace.
17حکمت در زندگی تو را کامیاب کرده و به راه آرامش و خوشی راهنمائی می کند.
18She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her.
18حکمت برای کسانیکه از میوۀ آن استفاده می کنند، درخت حیات است، و خوشا به حال کسی که همیشه از آن میوه می خورد.
19By wisdom Yahweh founded the earth. By understanding, he established the heavens.
19خداوند زمین را به حکمت خود آفرید و آسمان ها را با دانایی خود بنا کرد.
20By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.
20بر اثر دانش او چشمه فوران کرد و باران از ابر ها بر زمین بارید.
21My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
21ای پسرم، عقل و قضاوت درست و عادلانۀ خود را حفظ کن و نگذار از تو دور شوند.
22so they will be life to your soul, and grace for your neck.
22این دو خصلت به تو نیروی حیات می بخشند و زندگی ترا زینت می دهند.
23Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won’t stumble.
23آنگاه به سلامتی راه خود را طی می کنی و شکست نمی خوری.
24When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet.
24بدون ترس می خوابی و تمام شب براحتی استراحت می کنی.
25Don’t be afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes:
25از بلاهای ناگهانی، که مانند طوفان بر شریران نازل می شود، نخواهی ترسید.
26for Yahweh will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken.
26خداوند از تو محافظت می کند و نمی گذارد که در دام گرفتار شوی.
27Don’t withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
27تا می توانی از احسان کردن به محتاجان کوتاهی مکن.
28Don’t say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again; tomorrow I will give it to you,” when you have it by you.
28اگر می توانی حالا به همسایه ات کمک کنی، به او نگو: «برو و فردا بیا.»
29Don’t devise evil against your neighbor, since he dwells securely by you.
29در مورد همسایه ات که نزدیک تو زندگی می کند و به تو اعتماد دارد، نیت بد نداشته باش.
30Don’t strive with a man without cause, if he has done you no harm.
30با کسی که به تو بدی نکرده است، بی سبب چون و چرا مکن.
31Don’t envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways.
31به مردمان ظالم حسادت نورز و از آن ها پیروی منما.
32For the perverse is an abomination to Yahweh, but his friendship is with the upright.
32چون خداوند از مردم ظالم متنفر است، اما با اشخاص راستکار دوستی دارد.
33Yahweh’s curse is in the house of the wicked, but he blesses the habitation of the righteous.
33لعنت خداوند بر خانۀ شریران است، اما خانۀ عادلان را برکت می دهد.
34Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble.
34خداوند به مردم مغرور توجهی ندارد اما فروتنان را سرافراز می کند.خردمندان عزت و جلال به دست می آورند، اما نادانان رسوائی خود را بیشتر خواهند کرد.
35The wise will inherit glory, but shame will be the promotion of fools.
35خردمندان عزت و جلال به دست می آورند، اما نادانان رسوائی خود را بیشتر خواهند کرد.
