¹Let every soul be in subjection to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those who exist are ordained by God.

¹همه باید از اولیاء امور اطاعت نمایند، زیرا بدون اجازۀ خدا هیچ قدرتی وجود ندارد و صاحبانِ قدرت فعلی را خدا مقرر کرده است.

²Therefore he who resists the authority, withstands the ordinance of God; and those who withstand will receive to themselves judgment.

²از این جهت هرکه با آن ها مخالفت کند، با آنچه خدا برقرار کرده است مخالفت می کند و با این عمل، خود را ملامت خواهد ساخت.

³For rulers are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Do you desire to have no fear of the authority? Do that which is good, and you will have praise from the same,

³زیرا فرمانروایان باعث وحشت نیکوکاران نیستند، بلکه بدکاران باید از آن ها بترسند. آیا می خواهی از صاحبانِ قدرت ترسی نداشته باشی؟ دراین صورت نیکی کن و او تو را تعریف می کند.

⁴for he is a servant of God to you for good. But if you do that which is evil, be afraid, for he doesn’t bear the sword in vain; for he is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to him who does evil.

⁴چونکه او خادم خداست و برای خیریت تو کار می کند. اما اگر کار نادرست انجام دهی از او هراسان باش، زیرا او بی سبب صاحب شمشیر نیست، بلکه خادم خداست تا غضب خدا را در مورد خطاکارن اجرا نماید.

⁵Therefore you need to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

⁵بنابراین باید از صاحبان قدرت اطاعت کنید، نه تنها به سبب غضب خدا، بلکه به خاطر آسایش وجدان خود نیز.

⁶For this reason you also pay taxes, for they are servants of God’s service, attending continually on this very thing.

⁶و به همین سبب است که شما مالیات می پردازید زیرا اولیاء امور، خادمین خدا هستند و به این دلیل مشغول انجام وظایف خود می باشند.

⁷Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor.

⁷پس دَین خود را نسبت به همه ادا کنید: مالیات را به مستحق مالیات و محصولات را به مأمور وصول آن بپردازید و آن کسی را که سزاوار احترام است، احترام کنید و صاحبان عزت را عزیز بدارید.

⁸Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

⁸هیچ چیز به کسی قرض نداشته باشید، به جز محبت به یکدیگر. کسی که دیگران را محبت کند، شریعت را بجا آورده است.

⁹For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not give false testimony,” “You shall not covet,” TR adds “You shall not give false testimony,” Exodus 20:13-15,17; Deuteronomy 5:17-19,21 and whatever other commandments there are, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Leviticus 19:18

⁹همۀ احکام خدا: «زنا نکن، قتل نکن، دزدی نکن، طمع مورز»، و هر حکم دیگر در این حکم که «همسایه ات را مانند جان خود دوست بدار،» خلاصه شده است.

¹⁰Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.

¹⁰کسی که همسایۀ خود را دوست دارد، به او بدی نمی کند. پس محبت اجرای کامل تمام شریعت است.

¹¹Do this, knowing the time, that it is already time for you to awaken out of sleep, for salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed.

¹¹به علاوه شما می دانید که ما در چه زمانی هستیم و می دانید که موقع بیدار شدن از خواب رسیده است. امروز نجات ما از آن روزی که ایمان آوردیم، نزدیکتر است.

¹²The night is far gone, and the day is near. Let’s therefore throw off the works of darkness, and let’s put on the armor of light.

¹²شب تقریباً گذشته و روز نزدیک است، پس دیگر کارهای ظلمت را مانند لباس کهنه از خود دور اندازیم و زِرِه نور را بپوشیم.

¹³Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.

¹³چنان رفتار کنیم که شایستۀ کسانی باشد که در روشنائی روز به سر می برند و از عیاشی و مستی، فِسق، هرزگی یا نزاع و حسد بپرهیزیم.خود را با عیسی مسیح، خداوند بپوشانید و دیگر در فکر برآوردن خواهش های نفسانی خود نباشید.

¹⁴But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, for its lusts.
