¹In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

¹در ماهِ هشتمِ سالِ دومِ سلطنتِ داریوش پادشاه، کلام خداوند بر زکریا ـ پسر بَرَکیا و نواسۀ عِدوی نبی ـ نازل شد. خداوند قادر مطلق به زکریا فرمود:

²“Yahweh was very displeased with your fathers.

²«از طرف من به مردم بگو که من بر پدران شما بسیار خشمگین بودم،

³Therefore tell them: Thus says Yahweh of Armies: ‘Return to me,’ says Yahweh of Armies, ‘and I will return to you,’ says Yahweh of Armies.

³اما حالا اگر بسوی من برگردید، من هم بسوی شما بر می گردم.

⁴Don’t you be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets proclaimed, saying: Thus says Yahweh of Armies, ‘Return now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings;’ but they did not hear, nor listen to me, says Yahweh.

⁴مثل اجداد خود نباشید که انبیای گذشته پیام مرا به آن ها دادند تا از راهی که در پیش گرفته بودند بازگردند و از اعمال زشت خود دست بکشند، ولی به حرف آن ها گوش ندادند و از امر من اطاعت نکردند.

⁵Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

⁵اجداد شما و انبیای گذشته دیگر زنده نیستند و همگی مُردند،

⁶But my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, didn’t they overtake your fathers? “Then they repented and said, ‘Just as Yahweh of Armies determined to do to us, according to our ways, and according to our practices, so he has dealt with us.’”

⁶توسط بندگانم، انبیاء احکام و هُشدارهای خود را به اجداد شما دادم، ولی آن ها توجهی نکردند و در نتیجه، جزا دیدند. سرانجام، آن ها توبه کردند و گفتند: خداوند قادر مطلق ما را به سزای اعمال ما رساند و هوشدارهائی را که به ما داده بود، عملی کرد.»

⁷On the twenty-fourth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, the word of Yahweh came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

⁷در روز بیست و چهارم ماه یازدهم، یعنی ماه شباط، در دومین سال سلطنت داریوش، کلام خداوند در رؤیای شب به من، زکریا نازل شد.

⁸“I had a vision in the night, and behold, a man riding on a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle trees that were in a ravine; and behind him there were red, brown, and white horses.

⁸در یک دره ای، در بین درختان آس مردی را سوار بر یک اسپ سرخ دیدم. پشت سر او اسپهای به رنگهای نصواری، ابلق و سفید ایستاده بودند.

⁹Then I asked, ‘My lord, what are these?’” The angel who talked with me said to me, “I will show you what these are.”

⁹از مرد پرسیدم: «ای آقای من، این اسپها برای چه در اینجا ایستاده اند؟» او جواب داد: «دلیل آن را به تو می گویم.»

¹⁰The man who stood among the myrtle trees answered, “They are the ones Yahweh has sent to go back and forth through the earth.”

¹⁰پس آن مردی که در بین درختان ایستاده بود، به من گفت که خداوند آن ها را فرستاده است تا در زمین تردد کنند.

¹¹They reported to the angel of Yahweh who stood among the myrtle trees, and said, “We have walked back and forth through the earth, and behold, all the earth is at rest and in peace.”

¹¹آنگاه اسپ سواران به فرشتۀ خداوند که در بین درختان آس ایستاده بود، گزارش داده گفتند: «ما در سراسر روی زمین تردد کردیم و در همه جا آرامی برقرار است.»

¹²Then the angel of Yahweh replied, “O Yahweh of Armies, how long will you not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which you have had indignation these seventy years?”

¹²فرشتۀ خداوند وقتی این را شنید گفت: «ای خداوند قادر مطلق، مدت هفتاد سال بر اورشلیم و شهرهای یهودا خشمگین بودی. تا بکی رحمت خود را از آن ها دریغ می کنی؟»

¹³Yahweh answered the angel who talked with me with kind and comforting words.

¹³خداوند با مهربانی و سخنان تسلی آمیز به فرشته جواب داد.

¹⁴So the angel who talked with me said to me, “Proclaim, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

¹⁴آنگاه فرشته به من گفت: «این پیام خداوند قادر مطلق را اعلام کن که می فرماید: «من به اورشلیم شفقت و به سهیون غیرت زیادی دارم.

¹⁵I am very angry with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, but they added to the calamity.”

¹⁵اما بر اقوامی که در رفاه و آسایش زندگی می کنند، سخت خشمگین می باشم، زیرا آن ها زیادتر از آنچه که من می خواستم بر قوم برگزیدۀ من ظلم نمودند.»

¹⁶Therefore thus says Yahweh: “I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy. My house shall be built in it,” says Yahweh of Armies, “and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.”’

¹⁶بنابران، خداوند می فرماید: «من با رحمت و شفقت بیشتر به اورشلیم بازگشت می کنم و عبادتگاه من و تمام شهر اورشلیم سر از نو آباد می شوند.»

¹⁷“Proclaim further, saying, ‘Thus says Yahweh of Armies: “My cities will again overflow with prosperity, and Yahweh will again comfort Zion, and will again choose Jerusalem.”’”

¹⁷خداوند قادر مطلق می فرماید: «شهرهای اسرائیل سرشار از سعادت و برکت می گردند و من بار دیگر سهیون را تسلی داده و اورشلیم را برای سکونت خود بر می گزینم.»»

¹⁸I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, four horns.

¹⁸در رؤیای دیگر چهار شاخ گاو را دیدم.

¹⁹I asked the angel who talked with me, “What are these?” He answered me, “These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”

¹⁹از فرشته پرسیدم: «اینها چه هستند؟» او جواب داد: «اینها چهار قدرتی هستند که مردم یهودا و اسرائیل و اورشلیم را پراگنده ساخته اند.»

²⁰Yahweh showed me four craftsmen.

²⁰بعد خداوند چهار آهنگر را به من نشان داد.پرسیدم: «اینها برای چه کاری آمده اند؟» او در جواب فرمود: «اینها آمده اند تا آن چهار شاخی را که باعث پراگندگی مردم یهودا شده اند، به وحشت بیندازند، از تخت قدرت شان سرنگون سازند و همه را بر زمین بکوبند و دور بیندازند.»

²¹Then I asked, “What are these coming to do?” He said, “These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man lifted up his head; but these have come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.”

²¹پرسیدم: «اینها برای چه کاری آمده اند؟» او در جواب فرمود: «اینها آمده اند تا آن چهار شاخی را که باعث پراگندگی مردم یهودا شده اند، به وحشت بیندازند، از تخت قدرت شان سرنگون سازند و همه را بر زمین بکوبند و دور بیندازند.»
