¹If there arise in the midst of you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give you a sign or a wonder,

²and the sign or the wonder come to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, “Let us go after other gods” (which you have not known) “and let us serve them”;

²(H13:3-4) ja joka näin koettaa taivuttaa teidät palvelemaan vieraita ja teille outoja jumalia.

³you shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams: for Yahweh your God proves you, to know whether you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

³(H13:3-4)Älkää kuunnelko sellaisen profeetan tai unennäkijän sanoja, vaikka hänen lupaamansa ihme tapahtuisikin. Herra, teidän Jumalanne, koettelee teitä näin saadakseen tietää, rakastatteko häntä koko sydämestänne ja koko sielustanne.

⁴You shall walk after Yahweh your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cling to him.

⁴(H13:5)Teidän tulee seurata vain Herraa, Jumalaanne, pelätä häntä, noudattaa hänen käskyjään, totella häntä ja pysyä hänen uskollisina palvelijoinaan.

⁵That prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death, because he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to draw you aside out of the way which Yahweh your God commanded you to walk in. So you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.

⁵(H13:6)Mutta teitä yllyttänyt profeetta tai unennäkijä on surmattava, koska hän houkutteli teitä luopumaan Herrasta, Jumalastanne, joka on tuonut teidät pois Egyptistä ja lunastanut teidät vapaiksi tuosta orjuuden maasta; se mies viekoitteli teitä kääntymään pois siltä tieltä, jota Herra on käskenyt teidän kulkea. ⁶If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend, who is as your own soul, entice you secretly, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods,” which you have not known, you, nor your fathers;

⁶(H13:7)"Vaikka veljesi, oman äitisi poika, sinun oma poikasi tai tyttäresi, vaimosi, jota rakastat, tai paras ystäväsi salaa houkuttelisi sinua palvelemaan vieraita jumalia, joita sinä ja sinun esi-isäsi ette ole entuudestaan tunteneet,

⁷of the gods of the peoples who are around you, near to you, or far off from you, from the one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth;

⁷(H13:8)niiden kansojen jumalia, jotka asuvat teidän ympärillänne maan äärestä toiseen, lähellä tai kaukana,

⁸you shall not consent to him, nor listen to him; neither shall your eye pity him, neither shall you spare, neither shall you conceal him:

⁸(H13:9)älä suostu hänen ehdotukseensa äläkä kuuntele häntä. Älä sääli häntä, älä osoita hänelle armoa äläkä salaa hänen rikostaan,

⁹but you shall surely kill him; your hand shall be first on him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.

⁹(H13:10)vaan surmaa hänet. Heitä itse ensimmäinen kivi, ja sinun perässäsi tulkoot kaikki muut.

¹⁰You shall stone him to death with stones, because he has sought to draw you away from Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹⁰(H13:11)Kivittäkää hänet kuoliaaksi, sillä hän yritti viekoitella teitä luopumaan Herrasta, Jumalastanne, joka vei teidät pois Egyptistä, orjuuden maasta.

¹¹All Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall not do any more such wickedness as this is in the midst of you.

¹¹(H13:12)Kaikkien israelilaisten on saatava kuulla tästä tuomiosta, jotta he pelkäisivät eivätkä enää tekisi sellaista pahaa.

¹²If you shall hear tell concerning one of your cities, which Yahweh your God gives you to dwell there, saying,

¹²(H13:13)"Jos saatte tietää, että jossakin niistä kaupungeista, jotka Herra, teidän Jumalanne, antaa teidän asuttaviksenne,

¹³Certain base fellows are gone out from the midst of you, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, “Let us go and serve other gods,” which you have not known;

¹³(H13:14)on kelvottomia miehiä, jotka ovat viekoitelleet kaupunkinsa asukkaat palvelemaan muita, teille vieraita jumalia,

¹⁴then you shall inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is done in the midst of you,

¹⁴(H13:15) tutkikaa asiaa ja selvittäkää se tarkoin. Jos käy ilmi, että sellainen iljettävä teko todella on tapahtunut,

¹⁵you shall surely strike the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein and its livestock, with the edge of the sword.

¹⁵(H13:16)teidän on miekalla surmattava sen kaupungin asukkaat. Julistakaa kaupunki Herralle kuuluvaksi uhriksi, hävittäkää se ja surmatkaa sekä asukkaat että heidän karjansa.

¹⁶You shall gather all its spoil into the midst of its street, and shall burn with fire the city, and all its spoil every whit, to Yahweh your God: and it shall be a heap forever; it shall not be built again.

¹⁶(H13:17)Kaikki sieltä saatu saalis on koottava keskelle toria. Sitten koko kaupunki samoin kuin kaikki saalis on poltettava kokonaisuhrina Herralle, teidän Jumalallenne. Sellainen kaupunki pysyköön ikuisesti rauniokasana; sitä ei saa enää koskaan rakentaa uudestaan.

¹⁷Nothing of the devoted thing shall cling to your hand; that Yahweh may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show you mercy, and have compassion on you, and multiply you, as he has sworn to your fathers;

¹⁷(H13:18)Älkää kajotko mihinkään, mikä on julistettu Herralle kuuluvaksi uhriksi. Jos teette, kuten Herra on käskenyt, hän antaa vihansa lauhtua, hän säälii ja armahtaa teitä ja antaa teidän kasvaa suureksi kansaksi, kuten hän on teidän esi-isillenne vannonut.

¹⁸when you shall listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, to keep all his commandments which I command you this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh your God.

¹⁸(H13:19)Näin tapahtuu, jos tottelette Herraa, Jumalaanne, noudatatte kaikkia hänen käskyjään, jotka minä teille nyt annan, ja teette sitä, mikä Herran käskyn mukaan on oikein.
