¹At the end of every seven years you shall make a release.

¹"Joka seitsemäs vuosi teidän tulee julistaa velkojen anteeksianto.

²This is the way of the release: every creditor shall release that which he has lent to his neighbor; he shall not exact it of his neighbor and his brother; because Yahweh’s release has been proclaimed.

²Siitä on säädetty näin: Jokainen, joka on antanut toiselle lainan, luopukoon sen takaisin perimisestä. Lainan antaja ei saa enää vaatia velan suoritusta lähimmäiseltään, toiselta israelilaiselta, sillä Herran kunniaksi on julistettu velkojen anteeksianto.

³Of a foreigner you may exact it: but whatever of your is with your brother your hand shall release.

³Vierasheimoiselta saatte vaatia maksun, mutta maanmiehellenne antamaanne lainaa ette saa periä takaisin.

⁴However there shall be no poor with you; (for Yahweh will surely bless you in the land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it;)

⁴Herra, teidän Jumalanne, siunaa teitä runsaasti siinä maassa, jonka hän antaa teille perintöosaksi. Sen tähden teidän keskuudessanne ei pitäisi olla köyhiä,

⁵if only you diligently listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, to observe to do all this commandment which I command you this day.

⁵eikä heitä olekaan, jos vain kaikessa tottelette Herraa ja tarkoin noudatatte tätä käskyä, jonka minä nyt olen teille ilmoittanut.

⁶For Yahweh your God will bless you, as he promised you: and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; and you shall rule over many nations, but they shall not rule over you.

⁶Kun Herra, teidän Jumalanne, lupauksensa mukaisesti on siunannut teitä, te pystytte antamaan lainaa monille muille kansoille, mutta ette itse joudu lainaamaan niiltä. Te saatte hallita monia kansoja, mutta ne eivät hallitse teitä.

⁷If a poor man, one of your brothers, is with you within any of your gates in your land which Yahweh your God gives you, you shall not harden your heart, nor shut your hand from your poor brother;

⁷"Jos jollakin paikkakunnalla siinä maassa, jonka Herra, teidän Jumalanne, teille antaa, asuu joku köyhä israelilainen, älkää olko niin kovasydämisiä, että kieltäytyisitte auttamasta häntä.

⁸but you shall surely open your hand to him, and shall surely lend him sufficient for his need, which he lacks.

⁸Olkaa anteliaita ja lainatkaa hänelle se, minkä hän tarvitsee.

⁹Beware that there not be a base thought in your heart, saying, “The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand”; and your eye be evil against your poor brother, and you give him nothing; and he cry to Yahweh against you, and it be sin to you.

⁹Te ette saa kohdella tylysti köyhää maanmiestänne kieltämällä häneltä halpamaisesti apunne vain sen vuoksi, että tiedätte seitsemännen vuoden, velkojen anteeksiantovuoden, olevan lähellä. Jos kiellätte apunne, hän huutaa avukseen Herraa, ja te joudutte syynalaisiksi.

¹⁰You shall surely give him, and your heart shall not be grieved when you give to him; because that for this thing Yahweh your God will bless you in all your work, and in all that you put your hand to.

¹⁰Antakaa hänelle auliisti ja iloisin mielin. Silloin Herra, teidän Jumalanne, siunaa teitä kaikissa töissänne ja kaikissa hankkeissanne.

¹¹For the poor will never cease out of the land: therefore I command you, saying, You shall surely open your hand to your brother, to your needy, and to your poor, in your land.

¹¹Köyhiä tulee maassanne olemaan aina. Siksi minä käsken teitä osoittamaan anteliaisuutta osattomille ja varattomille maanmiehillenne.

¹²If your brother, a Hebrew man, or a Hebrew woman, is sold to you, and serves you six years; then in the seventh year you shall let him go free from you.

¹²"Jos heimolaisesi, heprealainen mies tai nainen, on joutunut myymään itsensä sinulle orjaksi, ja hän on palvellut sinua kuusi vuotta, sinun on seitsemäntenä vuotena vapautettava hänet.

¹³When you let him go free from you, you shall not let him go empty:

¹³Kun päästät hänet vapaaksi, älä anna hänen lähteä tyhjin käsin,

¹⁴you shall furnish him liberally out of your flock, and out of your threshing floor, and out of your winepress; as Yahweh your God has blessed you, you shall give to him.

¹⁴vaan lahjoita hänelle runsaasti kaikkea, mitä Herra, sinun Jumalasi, on sinulle suonut: lampaita ja vuohia sekä pellon ja viinitarhan antimia.

¹⁵You shall remember that you were a bondservant in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you: therefore I command you this thing today.

¹⁵Muista, että itse olit orjana Egyptissä ja että Herra, sinun Jumalasi, lunasti sinut vapaaksi. Sen tähden minä annan sinulle nyt tämän käskyn.

¹⁶It shall be, if he tells you, “I will not go out from you”; because he loves you and your house, because he is well with you;

¹⁶"Jos kuitenkin orjasi sanoo sinulle, ettei hän halua lähteä luotasi, koska hän rakastaa sinua ja perhettäsi ja hänen on hyvä olla luonasi,

¹⁷then you shall take an awl, and thrust it through his ear to the door, and he shall be your servant forever. Also to your female servant you shall do likewise.

¹⁷ota naskali ja lävistä sillä hänen korvalehtensä ovea vasten. Näin hänestä tulee elinikäinen orjasi. Sama koskee myös orjatartasi.

¹⁸It shall not seem hard to you, when you let him go free from you; for to the double of the hire of a hireling has he served you six years: and Yahweh your God will bless you in all that you do.

¹⁸Älä murehdi sitä, että joudut vapauttamaan orjasi. Hän on palvellut sinua kuusi vuotta ja tullut maksamaan sinulle paljon vähemmän kuin päivätyöläinen. Jos toimit Herran, Jumalasi, käskyn mukaan, Herra siunaa sinua kaikissa toimissasi.

¹⁹All the firstborn males that are born of your herd and of your flock you shall sanctify to Yahweh your God: you shall do no work with the firstborn of your herd, nor shear the firstborn of your flock.

¹⁹"Pyhittäkää Herralle, Jumalallenne, kaikki nautojen, lampaiden ja vuohien urospuoliset esikoiset. Älkää käyttäkö esikoiseläimiä juhtina, älkää myöskään keritkö lampaidenne tai vuohienne esikoisia.

²⁰You shall eat it before Yahweh your God year by year in the place which Yahweh shall choose, you and your household.

²⁰Kerran vuodessa teidän tulee perheinenne syödä esikoiseläimet Herran, Jumalanne, edessä siinä paikassa, jonka hän valitsee.

²¹If it has any blemish, is lame or blind, or has any defect whatever, you shall not sacrifice it to Yahweh your God.

²¹"Jos esikoiseläimessä on jokin vamma, niin että eläin on rampa, sokea tai muulla tavoin pahasti viallinen, ette saa pyhittää sitä Herralle, Jumalallenne.

²²You shall eat it within your gates: the unclean and the clean shall eat it alike, as the gazelle, and as the hart.

²²Saatte syödä sen omilla asuinsijoillanne, ja sitä voivat syödä niin puhtaat kuin epäpuhtaatkin, aivan kuin se olisi gasellin tai peuran lihaa.

²³Only you shall not eat its blood; you shall pour it out on the ground as water.

²³Verta ette kuitenkaan saa syödä; se teidän on vuodatettava maahan kuin vesi.
