1Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
1(H17:16)Herra sanoi Moosekselle:
2“Speak to the children of Israel, and take of them rods, one for each fathers’ house, of all their princes according to their fathers’ houses, twelve rods: write every man’s name on his rod.
2(H17:17)"Sano israelilaisille, että jokaisen sukukunnan päämiehen on annettava sinulle sauva, yksi kutakin heimoa kohti eli yhteensä kaksitoista sauvaa. Kirjoita sitten kunkin päällikön sauvaan hänen nimensä.
3You shall write Aaron’s name on the rod of Levi; for there shall be one rod for each head of their fathers’ houses.
3(H17:18)Leevin heimon sauvaan kirjoita kuitenkin Aaronin nimi. Kutakin heimon päämiestä kohti saa olla vain yksi sauva.
4You shall lay them up in the Tent of Meeting before the testimony, where I meet with you.
4(H17:19)Pane sauvat pyhäkkötelttaan liitonarkun eteen, missä saatte kohdata minut.
5It shall happen, that the rod of the man whom I shall choose shall bud: and I will make to cease from me the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against you.”
5(H17:20)Minun valitsemani miehen sauva puhkeaa lehteen, ja niin minä vaiennan israelilaisten nurinan ja pääsen kuulemasta heidän ainaista valitustaan teitä vastaan."
6Moses spoke to the children of Israel; and all their princes gave him rods, for each prince one, according to their fathers’ houses, even twelve rods: and the rod of Aaron was among their rods.
6(H17:21)Mooses ilmoitti tämän israelilaisille, ja jokaisen heimon päämies antoi hänelle sauvan. Sauvoja oli yksi kutakin heimoa kohti eli yhteensä kaksitoista sauvaa, ja Aaronin sauva oli niiden joukossa.
7Moses laid up the rods before Yahweh in the tent of the testimony.
7(H17:22)Mooses vei sauvat Herran eteen liitonarkkua suojaavaan telttaan.
8It happened on the next day, that Moses went into the tent of the testimony; and behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded, and put forth buds, and produced blossoms, and bore ripe almonds.
8(H17:23)Kun hän seuraavana päivänä meni sinne, Leevin sukukuntaa edustava Aaronin sauva oli puhjennut lehteen ja siinä oli lehtien lisäksi kukkia ja kypsäksi ehtineitä manteleita.
9Moses brought out all the rods from before Yahweh to all the children of Israel: and they looked, and took every man his rod.
9(H17:24)Mooses vei sauvat ulos pyhäkköteltasta ja näytti ne israelilaisille. Sauvat nähtyään kukin päämies otti niistä omansa.
10Yahweh said to Moses, “Put back the rod of Aaron before the testimony, to be kept for a token against the children of rebellion; that you may make an end of their murmurings against me, that they not die.”
10(H17:25)Herra sanoi Moosekselle: "Vie Aaronin sauva takaisin liitonarkun eteen säilytettäväksi todisteena niille, jotka vielä aikovat kapinoida. Näin pääsen kuulemasta heidän nurinaansa, eikä heidän tarvitse kuolla."
11Moses did so. As Yahweh commanded him, so he did.
11(H17:26)Mooses teki Herran käskyn mukaisesti.
12The children of Israel spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, we perish! We are undone! We are all undone!
12(H17:27)Mutta israelilaiset sanoivat Moosekselle: "Me olemme hukassa, me tuhoudumme, olemme kaikki tuhon omat!
13Everyone who comes near, who comes near to the tabernacle of Yahweh, dies! Will we all perish?”
13(H17:28)Jos jokainen, joka menee Herran asumuksen lähelle, kuolee, niin mehän kuolemme kaikki!"
