¹The whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

¹Semula, bangsa-bangsa di seluruh dunia hanya mempunyai satu bahasa dan mereka memakai kata-kata yang sama.

²It happened, as they traveled east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.

²Ketika mereka mengembara ke sebelah timur, sampailah mereka di sebuah dataran di Babilonia, lalu menetap di sana.

³They said one to another, “Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.

³Mereka berkata seorang kepada yang lain, "Ayo kita membuat batu bata dan membakarnya sampai keras." Demikianlah mereka mempunyai batu bata untuk batu rumah dan ter untuk bahan perekatnya.

⁴They said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make ourselves a name, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”

⁴Kata mereka, "Mari kita mendirikan kota dengan sebuah menara yang puncaknya sampai ke langit, supaya kita termasyhur dan tidak tercerai berai di seluruh bumi."

⁵Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.

⁵Maka turunlah TUHAN untuk melihat kota dan menara yang didirikan oleh manusia.

⁶Yahweh said, “Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.

⁶Lalu Ia berkata, "Mereka ini satu bangsa dengan satu bahasa, dan ini baru permulaan dari rencana-rencana mereka. Tak lama lagi mereka akan sanggup melakukan apa saja yang mereka kehendaki.

⁷Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”

⁷Sebaiknya Kita turun dan mengacaukan bahasa mereka supaya mereka tidak mengerti lagi satu sama lain."

⁸So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.

⁸Demikianlah TUHAN menceraiberaikan mereka ke seluruh bumi. Lalu berhentilah mereka mendirikan kota itu.

⁹Therefore its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of all the earth. From there, Yahweh scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.

⁹Sebab itu kota itu diberi nama Babel, karena di situ TUHAN mengacaukan bahasa semua bangsa, dan dari situ mereka diceraiberaikan oleh TUHAN ke seluruh bumi.

¹⁰This is the history of the generations of Shem. Shem was one hundred years old and became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.

¹⁰Inilah keturunan Sem. Dua tahun sesudah banjir besar, ketika Sem berumur 100 tahun, ia mendapat seorang anak laki-laki yang bernama Arpakhsad.

¹¹Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹¹Setelah itu ia masih hidup 500 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

¹²Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelah.

¹²Pada waktu Arpakhsad berumur 35 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Selah.

¹³Arpachshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelah, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹³Setelah itu Arpakhsad masih hidup 403 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

¹⁴Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber:

¹⁴Pada waktu Selah berumur 30 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Eber.

¹⁵and Shelah lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Eber, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹⁵Setelah itu Selah masih hidup 403 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

¹⁶Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.

¹⁶Pada waktu Eber berumur 34 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Peleg.

¹⁷Eber lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹⁷Setelah itu Eber masih hidup 430 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

¹⁸Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.

¹⁸Pada waktu Peleg berumur 30 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Rehu.

¹⁹Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Reu, and became the father of sons and daughters.

¹⁹Setelah itu Peleg masih hidup 209 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

²⁰Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.

²⁰Pada waktu Rehu berumur 32 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Serug.

²¹Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of sons and daughters.

²¹Setelah itu Rehu masih hidup 207 tahun lagi dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

²²Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.

²²Pada waktu Serug berumur 30 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Nahor.

²³Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and became the father of sons and daughters.

²³Setelah itu Serug masih hidup 200 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

²⁴Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.

²⁴Pada waktu Nahor berumur 29 tahun, ia mendapat anak laki-laki, namanya Terah.

²⁵Nahor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and became the father of sons and daughters.

²⁵Setelah itu Nahor masih hidup 119 tahun lagi, dan mendapat anak-anak lain.

²⁶Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

²⁶Setelah Terah berumur 70 tahun, ia mendapat tiga anak laki-laki, yaitu Abram, Nahor dan Haran.

²⁷Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.

²⁷Inilah keturunan Terah: Terah ayah Abram, Nahor dan Haran. Haran mempunyai anak laki-laki, namanya Lot.

²⁸Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees.

²⁸Haran meninggal di kampung halamannya, yaitu Ur di Babilonia, pada waktu ayahnya masih hidup.

²⁹Abram and Nahor took wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran who was also the father of Iscah.

²⁹Abram kawin dengan Sarai, dan Nahor kawin dengan Milka anak perempuan Haran. Haran masih mempunyai anak laki-laki lain namanya Yiska.

³⁰Sarai was barren. She had no child.

³⁰Adapun Sarai mandul.

³¹Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there.

³¹Terah meninggalkan kota Ur di Babilonia bersama-sama dengan Abram anaknya, Lot cucunya, dan Sarai menantunya, yaitu istri Abram. Dia bermaksud hendak pergi ke negeri Kanaan. Tetapi setibanya di Haran, mereka menetap di sana.

³²The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.

³²Dan di tempat itu pula Terah meninggal pada usia 205 tahun.
