¹But Saul, still breathing threats and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest,

¹さてサウロは、なおも主の弟子たちに対する脅迫、殺害の息をはずませながら、大祭司のところに行って、

²and asked for letters from him to the synagogues of Damascus, that if he found any who were of the Way, whether men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.

²ダマスコの諸会堂あての添書を求めた。それは、この道の者を見つけ次第、男女の別なく縛りあげて、エルサレムにひっぱって来るためであった。

³As he traveled, it happened that he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him.

³ところが、道を急いでダマスコの近くにきたとき、突然、天から光がさして、彼をめぐり照した。

⁴He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

⁴彼は地に倒れたが、その時「サウロ、サウロ、なぜわたしを迫害するのか」と呼びかける声を聞いた。

⁵He said, “Who are you, Lord?” The Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. TR adds “It’s hard for you to kick against the goads.”

⁵そこで彼は「主よ、あなたは、どなたですか」と尋ねた。すると答があった、「わたしは、あなたが迫害しているイエスである。

⁶ But TR omits “But” rise up, and enter into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

⁶さあ立って、町にはいって行きなさい。そうすれば、そこであなたのなすべき事が告げられるであろう」。

⁷The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the sound, but seeing no one.

⁷サウロの同行者たちは物も言えずに立っていて、声だけは聞えたが、だれも見えなかった。

⁸Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes were opened, he saw no one. They led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.

⁸サウロは地から起き上がって目を開いてみたが、何も見えなかった。そこで人々は、彼の手を引いてダマスコへ連れて行った。

⁹He was without sight for three days, and neither ate nor drank.

⁹彼は三日間、目が見えず、また食べることも飲むこともしなかった。

¹⁰Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, “Ananias!” He said, “Behold, it’s me, Lord.”

¹⁰さて、ダマスコにアナニヤというひとりの弟子がいた。この人に主が幻の中に現れて、「アナニヤよ」とお呼びになった。彼は「主よ、わたしでございます」と答えた。

¹¹The Lord said to him, “Arise, and go to the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judah or, Judas for one named Saul, a man of Tarsus. For behold, he is praying,

¹¹そこで主が彼に言われた、「立って、『真すぐ』という名の路地に行き、ユダの家でサウロというタルソ人を尋ねなさい。彼はいま祈っている。

¹² and in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in, and laying his hands on him, that he might receive his sight.”

¹²彼はアナニヤという人がはいってきて、手を自分の上において再び見えるようにしてくれるのを、幻で見たのである」。

¹³But Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much evil he did to your saints at Jerusalem.

¹³アナニヤは答えた、「主よ、あの人がエルサレムで、どんなにひどい事をあなたの聖徒たちにしたかについては、多くの人たちから聞いています。

¹⁴Here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on your name.”

¹⁴そして彼はここでも、御名をとなえる者たちをみな捕縛する権を、祭司長たちから得てきているのです」。

¹⁵But the Lord said to him, “Go your way, for he is my chosen vessel to bear my name before the nations and kings, and the children of Israel.

¹⁵しかし、主は仰せになった、「さあ、行きなさい。あの人は、異邦人たち、王たち、またイスラエルの子らにも、わたしの名を伝える器として、わたしが選んだ者である。

¹⁶ For I will show him how many things he must suffer for my name’s sake.”

¹⁶わたしの名のために彼がどんなに苦しまなければならないかを、彼に知らせよう」。

¹⁷Ananias departed, and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me, that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”

¹⁷そこでアナニヤは、出かけて行ってその家にはいり、手をサウロの上において言った、「兄弟サウロよ、あなたが来る途中で現れた主イエスは、あなたが再び見えるようになるため、そして聖霊に満たされるために、わたしをここにおつかわしになったのです」。

¹⁸Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized.

¹⁸するとたちどころに、サウロの目から、うろこのようなものが落ちて、元どおり見えるようになった。そこで彼は立ってバプテスマを受け、

¹⁹He took food and was strengthened. Saul stayed several days with the disciples who were at Damascus.

¹⁹また食事をとって元気を取りもどした。サウロは、ダマスコにいる弟子たちと共に数日間を過ごしてから、

²⁰Immediately in the synagogues he proclaimed the Christ, that he is the Son of God.

²⁰ただちに諸会堂でイエスのことを宣べ伝え、このイエスこそ神の子であると説きはじめた。

²¹All who heard him were amazed, and said, “Isn’t this he who in Jerusalem made havoc of those who called on this name? And he had come here intending to bring them bound before the chief priests!”

²¹これを聞いた人たちはみな非常に驚いて言った、「あれは、エルサレムでこの名をとなえる者たちを苦しめた男ではないか。その上ここにやってきたのも、彼らを縛りあげて、祭司長たちのところへひっぱって行くためではなかったか」。

²²But Saul increased more in strength, and confounded the Jews who lived at Damascus, proving that this is the Christ.

²²しかし、サウロはますます力が加わり、このイエスがキリストであることを論証して、ダマスコに住むユダヤ人たちを言い伏せた。

²³When many days were fulfilled, the Jews conspired together to kill him,

²³相当の日数がたったころ、ユダヤ人たちはサウロを殺す相談をした。

²⁴but their plot became known to Saul. They watched the gates both day and night that they might kill him,

²⁴ところが、その陰謀が彼の知るところとなった。彼らはサウロを殺そうとして、夜昼、町の門を見守っていたのである。

²⁵but his disciples took him by night, and let him down through the wall, lowering him in a basket.

²⁵そこで彼の弟子たちが、夜の間に彼をかごに乗せて、町の城壁づたいにつりおろした。

²⁶When Saul had come to Jerusalem, he tried to join himself to the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple.

²⁶サウロはエルサレムに着いて、弟子たちの仲間に加わろうと努めたが、みんなの者は彼を弟子だとは信じないで、恐れていた。

²⁷But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared to them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how at Damascus he had preached boldly in the name of Jesus.

²⁷ところが、バルナバは彼の世話をして使徒たちのところへ連れて行き、途中で主が彼に現れて語りかけたことや、彼がダマスコでイエスの名で大胆に宣べ伝えた次第を、彼らに説明して聞かせた。

²⁸He was with them entering into TR and NU add “and going out” Jerusalem,

²⁸それ以来、彼は使徒たちの仲間に加わり、エルサレムに出入りし、主の名によって大胆に語り、

²⁹preaching boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus. TR and NU omit “Jesus” and reverse the order of verses 28 & 29. He spoke and disputed against the Hellenists, The Hellenists were Hebrews who used Greek language and culture. but they were seeking to kill him.

³⁰When the brothers The word for “brothers” here and where the context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” knew it, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him off to Tarsus.

³⁰兄弟たちはそれと知って、彼をカイザリヤに連れてくだり、タルソへ送り出した。

³¹So the assemblies throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace, and were built up. They were multiplied, walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit.

³¹こうして教会は、ユダヤ、ガリラヤ、サマリヤ全地方にわたって平安を保ち、基礎がかたまり、主をおそれ聖霊にはげまされて歩み、次第に信徒の数を増して行った。

³²It happened, as Peter went throughout all those parts, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda.

³²ペテロは方々をめぐり歩いたが、ルダに住む聖徒たちのところへも下って行った。

³³There he found a certain man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years, because he was paralyzed.

³³そして、そこで、八年間も床についているアイネヤという人に会った。この人は中風であった。

³⁴Peter said to him, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and make your bed!” Immediately he arose.

³⁴ペテロが彼に言った、「アイネヤよ、イエス・キリストがあなたをいやして下さるのだ。起きなさい。そして床を取りあげなさい」。すると、彼はただちに起きあがった。

³⁵All who lived at Lydda and in Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

³⁵ルダとサロンに住む人たちは、みなそれを見て、主に帰依した。

³⁶Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which when translated, means Dorcas. “Dorcas” is Greek for “Gazelle.” This woman was full of good works and acts of mercy which she did.

³⁶ヨッパにタビタ（これを訳すと、ドルカス、すなわち、かもしか）という女弟子がいた。数々のよい働きや施しをしていた婦人であった。

³⁷It happened in those days that she fell sick, and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room.

³⁷ところが、そのころ病気になって死んだので、人々はそのからだを洗って、屋上の間に安置した。

³⁸As Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men Reading from NU, TR; MT omits “two men” to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them.

³⁸ルダはヨッパに近かったので、弟子たちはペテロがルダにきていると聞き、ふたりの者を彼のもとにやって、「どうぞ、早くこちらにおいで下さい」と頼んだ。

³⁹Peter got up and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them.

³⁹そこでペテロは立って、ふたりの者に連れられてきた。彼が着くとすぐ、屋上の間に案内された。すると、やもめたちがみんな彼のそばに寄ってきて、ドルカスが生前つくった下着や上着の数々を、泣きながら見せるのであった。

⁴⁰Peter put them all out, and kneeled down and prayed. Turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up.

⁴⁰ペテロはみんなの者を外に出し、ひざまずいて祈った。それから死体の方に向いて、「タビタよ、起きなさい」と言った。すると彼女は目をあけ、ペテロを見て起きなおった。

⁴¹He gave her his hand, and raised her up. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.

⁴¹ペテロは彼女に手をかして立たせた。それから、聖徒たちや、やもめたちを呼び入れて、彼女が生きかえっているのを見せた。

⁴²And it became known throughout all Joppa, and many believed in the Lord.

⁴²このことがヨッパ中に知れわたり、多くの人々が主を信じた。ペテロは、皮なめしシモンという人の家に泊まり、しばらくの間ヨッパに滞在した。

⁴³It happened, that he stayed many days in Joppa with one Simon, a tanner.
