¹If one be found slain in the land which Yahweh your God gives you to possess it, lying in the field, and it isn’t known who has struck him;

¹あなたの神、主が与えて獲させられる地で、殺されて野に倒れている人があって、だれが殺したのかわからない時は、

²then your elders and your judges shall come forth, and they shall measure to the cities which are around him who is slain:

²長老たちと、さばきびとたちが出てきて、その殺された者のある所から、周囲の町々までの距離をはからなければならない。

³and it shall be, that the city which is nearest to the slain man, even the elders of that city shall take a heifer of the herd, which hasn’t been worked with, and which has not drawn in the yoke;

³そしてその殺された者のある所に最も近い町の長老たちは、まだ使わない、まだくびきを負わせて引いたことのない若い雌牛をとり、

⁴and the elders of that city shall bring down the heifer to a valley with running water, which is neither plowed nor sown, and shall break the heifer’s neck there in the valley.

⁴その町の長老たちはその雌牛を、耕すことも、種まくこともしない、絶えず水の流れている谷へ引いていって、その谷で雌牛のくびを折らなければならない。

⁵The priests the sons of Levi shall come near; for them Yahweh your God has chosen to minister to him, and to bless in the name of Yahweh; and according to their word shall every controversy and every stroke be.

⁵その時レビの子孫である祭司たちは、そこに進み出なければならない。彼らはあなたの神、主が自分に仕えさせ、また主の名によって祝福させるために選ばれた者で、すべての論争と、すべての暴行は彼らの言葉によって解決されるからである。

⁶All the elders of that city, who are nearest to the slain man, shall wash their hands over the heifer whose neck was broken in the valley;

⁶そしてその殺された者のある所に最も近い町の長老たちは皆、彼らが谷でくびを折った雌牛の上で手を洗い、

⁷and they shall answer and say, “Our hands have not shed this blood, neither have our eyes seen it.

⁷証言して言わなければならない、『われわれの手はこの血を流さず、われわれの目もそれを見なかった。

⁸Forgive, Yahweh, your people Israel, whom you have redeemed, and don’t allow innocent blood in the midst of your people Israel.” The blood shall be forgiven them.

⁸主よ、あなたがあがなわれた民イスラエルをおゆるしください。罪のない者の血を流したとがを、あなたの民イスラエルのうちにとどめないでください。そして血を流したとがをおゆるしください』。

⁹So you shall put away the innocent blood from the midst of you, when you shall do that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh.

⁹このようにして、あなたは主が正しいと見られる事をおこない、罪のない者の血を流したとがを、あなたがたのうちから除き去らなければならない。

¹⁰When you go forth to battle against your enemies, and Yahweh your God delivers them into your hands, and you carry them away captive,

¹⁰あなたが出て敵と戦う際、あなたの神、主がそれをあなたの手にわたされ、あなたがそれを捕虜とした時、

¹¹and see among the captives a beautiful woman, and you have a desire to her, and would take her to you as wife;

¹¹もし捕虜のうちに美しい女のあるのを見て、それを好み、妻にめとろうとするならば、

¹²then you shall bring her home to your house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

¹²その女をあなたの家に連れて帰らなければならない。女は髪をそり、つめを切り、

¹³and she shall put the clothing of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in your house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month: and after that you shall go in to her, and be her husband, and she shall be your wife.

¹³また捕虜の着物を脱ぎすてて、あなたの家におり、自分の父母のために一か月のあいだ嘆かなければならない。そして後、あなたは彼女の所にはいって、その夫となり、彼女を妻とすることができる。

¹⁴It shall be, if you have no delight in her, then you shall let her go where she will; but you shall not sell her at all for money, you shall not deal with her as a slave, because you have humbled her.

¹⁴その後あなたがもし彼女を好まなくなったならば、彼女を自由に去らせなければならない。決して金で売ってはならない。あなたはすでに彼女をはずかしめたのだから、彼女を奴隷のようにあしらってはならない。

¹⁵If a man have two wives, the one beloved, and the other hated, and they have borne him children, both the beloved and the hated; and if the firstborn son be hers who was hated;

¹⁵人がふたりの妻をもち、そのひとりは愛する者、ひとりは気にいらない者であって、その愛する者と気にいらない者のふたりが、ともに男の子を産み、もしその長子が、気にいらない女の産んだ者である時は、

¹⁶then it shall be, in the day that he causes his sons to inherit that which he has, that he may not make the son of the beloved the firstborn before the son of the hated, who is the firstborn:

¹⁶その子たちに自分の財産を継がせる時、気にいらない女の産んだ長子をさしおいて、愛する女の産んだ子を長子とすることはできない。

¹⁷but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength; the right of the firstborn is his.

¹⁷必ずその気にいらない者の産んだ子が長子であることを認め、自分の財産を分ける時には、これに二倍の分け前を与えなければならない。これは自分の力の初めであって、長子の特権を持っているからである。

¹⁸If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, who will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and, though they chasten him, will not listen to them;

¹⁸もし、わがままで、手に負えない子があって、父の言葉にも、母の言葉にも従わず、父母がこれを懲らしてもきかない時は、

¹⁹then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out to the elders of his city, and to the gate of his place;

¹⁹その父母はこれを捕えて、その町の門に行き、町の長老たちの前に出し、

²⁰and they shall tell the elders of his city, “This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.”

²⁰町の長老たちに言わなければならない、『わたしたちのこの子はわがままで、手に負えません。わたしたちの言葉に従わず、身持ちが悪く、大酒飲みです』。

²¹All the men of his city shall stone him to death with stones: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

²¹そのとき、町の人は皆、彼を石で撃ち殺し、あなたがたのうちから悪を除き去らなければならない。そうすれば、イスラエルは皆聞いて恐れるであろう。

²²If a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he be put to death, and you hang him on a tree;

²²もし人が死にあたる罪を犯して殺され、あなたがそれを木の上にかける時は、翌朝までその死体を木の上に留めておいてはならない。必ずそれをその日のうちに埋めなければならない。木にかけられた者は神にのろわれた者だからである。あなたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地を汚してはならない。

²³his body shall not remain all night on the tree, but you shall surely bury him the same day; for he who is hanged is accursed of God; that you don’t defile your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance.

²³翌朝までその死体を木の上に留めておいてはならない。必ずそれをその日のうちに埋めなければならない。木にかけられた者は神にのろわれた者だからである。あなたの神、主が嗣業として賜わる地を汚してはならない。
