1“Brothers and fathers, listen to the defense which I now make to you.”
1Ay atmaten akken ma tellam dagi meẓẓi meqqeṛ, semḥesset ed tura a wen-d-iniɣ ayen s wayes ara dafɛeɣ ɣef yiman-iw !
2When they heard that he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, they were even more quiet. He said,
2Mi slan iheddeṛ-asen-d s tɛibṛanit, ssusmen meṛṛa iwakken a s-slen. Dɣa yenna :
3“I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, instructed according to the strict tradition of the law of our fathers, being zealous for God, even as you all are this day.
3Nekk n wat Isṛail, ț-țideț luleɣ di temdint n Sars n tmurt n Silisya, lameɛna țțuṛebbaɣ di temdint-agi n Lquds. Lliɣ d anelmad n ccix Gamalyel s yiman-is ; yesselmed-iyi akken ilaq amek ara tebɛeɣ ccariɛa i d-ǧǧan lejdud-nneɣ. Ttabaɛeɣ seg ul-iw abrid n Sidi Ṛebbi, am kunwi ass-agi.
4I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
4Qehṛeɣ armi d lmut wid ittabaɛen abrid-agi ajdid n Sidna Ɛisa, am yergazen am tlawin, țțawiɣ-ten-id ɣer leḥbus țwarzen.
5As also the high priest and all the council of the elders testify, from whom also I received letters to the brothers, and traveled to Damascus to bring them also who were there to Jerusalem in bonds to be punished.
5Lmuqeddem ameqqran ț-țejmaɛt n lɛuqal atnan d inigan ma bɣan a d-cehden ; d nutni s yiman-nsen i yi-d-yefkan tibṛatin i watmaten n Dimecq, syenna a d-awiɣ țwarzen ɣer temdint n Lquds, wid akk yumnen s webrid-agi, iwakken a ten-ɛaqben.
6It happened that, as I made my journey, and came close to Damascus, about noon, suddenly there shone from the sky a great light around me.
6Lliɣ tedduɣ deg webrid, qṛib ad awḍeɣ ɣer temdint n Dimecq. Aț-țili d țnaṣfa n wass, taswiɛt kan, yiwet n tafat tameqqrant tewwet-ed seg igenni, tețfeǧǧiǧ, tezzi-yi-d.
7I fell to the ground, and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?’
7Ɣliɣ ɣer lqaɛa, sliɣ i yiwen n ṣṣut i yi-d-iqqaṛen : Caɛul, a Caɛul, acuɣeṛ i yi tețqehhiṛeḍ ?
8I answered, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you persecute.’
8Nniɣ-as : Anwa-k, a Sidi ? Yenna-yi-d : Nekk d Ɛisa Anaṣari, win akken i tețqehhiṛeḍ.
9“Those who were with me indeed saw the light and were afraid, but they didn’t understand the voice of him who spoke to me.
9Wid yellan yid-i walan tafat-nni, lameɛna ur slin ara i ṣṣut i yi-d iheddṛen, dɣa nniɣ : Acu i tebɣiḍ a t-xedmeɣ a Sidi ?
10I said, ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ The Lord said to me, ‘Arise, and go into Damascus. There you will be told about all things which are appointed for you to do.’
10Sidna Ɛisa yenna-yi-d : Ekker, ṛuḥ ɣer Dimecq, dinna ara k-d-inin ayen akk ilaqen a t-txedmeḍ.
11When I couldn’t see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus.
11Imi iyi-tesderɣel tafat-nni s ufeǧǧeǧ-ines, d imdukkal-iw i yi ṭṭfen afus armi wwḍeɣ ɣer Dimecq.
12One Ananias, a devout man according to the law, well reported of by all the Jews who lived in Damascus,
12Yella dinna yiwen wergaz isem-is Ananyas, d argaz iḍuɛen Sidi Ṛebbi, yerna yettabaɛ ccariɛa ; at Isṛail meṛṛa izedɣen di temdint n Dimecq țcehhiden fell-as s lxiṛ.
13came to me, and standing by me said to me, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ In that very hour I looked up at him.
13Yusa-d ɣuṛ-i yenna-yi-d : A Caɛul a gma, Sidi Ṛebbi yerra-yak-d iẓri ! Di teswiɛt-nni, yuɣal-iyi-d yezṛi, dɣa walaɣ-t.
14He said, ‘The God of our fathers has appointed you to know his will, and to see the Righteous One, and to hear a voice from his mouth.
14Ananyas yenna-yi-d : Sidi Ṛebbi n lejdud-nneɣ yextaṛ ik aț-țissineḍ lebɣi-ines, aț-țwaliḍ s wallen-ik win yellan d Aḥeqqi, aț-țesleḍ imeslayen seg yimi-is .
15For you will be a witness for him to all men of what you have seen and heard.
15axaṭer aț-țuɣaleḍ d inigi-ines zdat yemdanen meṛṛa ɣef wayen akk i teẓriḍ d wayen iwumi tesliḍ.
16Now why do you wait? Arise, be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.’
16Tura d acu i tețṛaǧuḍ ? Kker aț-tețwaɣeḍseḍ, aț-țizdigeḍ seg ddnubat-ik m'ara tedɛuḍ s yisem-is.
17“It happened that, when I had returned to Jerusalem, and while I prayed in the temple, I fell into a trance,
17Asmi uɣaleɣ ɣer temdint n Lquds, yiwen n wass lliɣ țẓallaɣ deg wefrag n lǧameɛ iqedsen, iweḥḥa-yi-d Sidi Ṛebbi,
18and saw him saying to me, ‘Hurry and get out of Jerusalem quickly, because they will not receive testimony concerning me from you.’
18walaɣ Sidna Ɛisa yenna-yi-d : Ffeɣ s lemɣawla si temdint n Lquds, axaṭer ur qebblen ara ayen s wayes ara tcehdeḍ fell-i.
19I said, ‘Lord, they themselves know that I imprisoned and beat in every synagogue those who believed in you.
19Nniɣ : A Sidi, ssnen-iyi ! Sran s yiman nsen belli ttabaɛeɣ si lǧameɛ ɣer wayeḍ wid yumnen yis-ek iwakken a ten-erreɣ ɣer lḥebs ad țewten.
20When the blood of Stephen, your witness, was shed, I also was standing by, and consenting to his death, and guarding the cloaks of those who killed him.’
20Ula d Stifan inigi-inek, mi ssuzlen idammen-is lliɣ dinna, qebleɣ at nɣen yerna ɛusseɣ leḥwayeǧ n wid i t-yenɣan.
21“He said to me, ‘Depart, for I will send you out far from here to the Gentiles.’
21Dɣa Sidi Ṛebbi yenna-yi-d : Ṛuḥ a k-ceggɛeɣ ɣer lebɛid ɣer wat leǧnas ur nelli ara n wat Isṛail.
22They listened to him until he said that; then they lifted up their voice, and said, “Rid the earth of this fellow, for he isn’t fit to live!”
22Smeḥsisen-as armi d awal-agi imiren ɛeggḍen nnan : Ekkset si ddunit argaz am wagi ! Ur t-țaǧǧat ara ad yidir !
23As they cried out, and threw off their cloaks, and threw dust into the air,
23Țɛeggiḍen, ṭeggiṛen leḥwayeǧ nsen, ssafagen aɣebbaṛ ɣer igenni.
24the commanding officer commanded him to be brought into the barracks, ordering him to be examined by scourging, that he might know for what crime they shouted against him like that.
24Lqebṭan n Ṛuman yumeṛ ad skecmen Bulus ɣer lbeṛj, a t-ewten s ujelkkaḍ ( s ucelliṭ ) iwakken ad issinen sebba ɣef wacu țɛeggiḍen fell-as.
25When they had tied him up with thongs, Paul asked the centurion who stood by, “Is it lawful for you to scourge a man who is a Roman, and not found guilty?”
25Mi t-cudden s tɣeggadin, Bulus yenna i lqebṭan yellan dinna : Eɛni iserreḥ-awen lqanun aț țewtem aṛumani s ujelkkaḍ uqbel ad iɛeddi di ccṛeɛ ?
26When the centurion heard it, he went to the commanding officer and told him, “Watch what you are about to do, for this man is a Roman!”
26Ɣef yimeslayen-agi, lqebṭan-nni iṛuḥ ɣer wemdebbar ameqqran yenna-yas : Ḥader aț-țewteḍ argaz-agi ! D aṛumani !
27The commanding officer came and asked him, “Tell me, are you a Roman?” He said, “Yes.”
27Amdebbar ameqqran mi d-yusa ɣer Bulus, yenna-yas : Ț-țideț kečč d aṛumani ? Ih, d aṛumani i lliɣ !
28The commanding officer answered, “I bought my citizenship for a great price.” Paul said, “But I was born a Roman.”
28Amdebbar ameqqran yenna : Nekk aṭas n yedrimen i fkiɣ iwakken ad uɣaleɣ d aṛumani. Bulus yerra-yas : Nekk, seg wasmi i d-luleɣ i rseɣ di lekwaɣeḍ d aṛumani.
29Immediately those who were about to examine him departed from him, and the commanding officer also was afraid when he realized that he was a Roman, because he had bound him.
29Imiren widak i d-ikkren a t wten, ṭṭaxṛen-as. Lqebṭan ameqqran s yiman-is yuggad mi geẓra Bulus d aṛumani yerna icudd-it.
30But on the next day, desiring to know the truth about why he was accused by the Jews, he freed him from the bonds, and commanded the chief priests and all the council to come together, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
30Azekka-nni, imi i gebɣa ad yissin wemdebbar ameqqran ɣef wacu i d-ccetkan fell-as wat Isṛail, iserreḥ i Bulus, yumeṛ i lmuqedmin akk-d usqamu n ccṛeɛ ad nnejmaɛen. Dɣa yewwi-d Bulus isbedd-it-id zdat-nsen.
