1My brothers, don’t hold the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ of glory with partiality.
1Ay atmaten, ur xeddmet ara lxilaf ger watmaten, d ayen ur nlaq ara ad yili ɣer wid yețțamnen s Ssid-nneɣ ameqqran, Ɛisa Lmasiḥ.
2For if a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, comes into your synagogue or, meeting , and a poor man in filthy clothing also comes in;
2Yezmer lḥal a d-kecmen ɣer tejmaɛt-nwen sin yemdanen, yiwen d ameṛkanti yelsa llebsa ifazen yeqqen taxatemt n ddheb, wayeḍ d igellil llebsa-ines tcerreg ;
3and you pay special attention to him who wears the fine clothing, and say, “Sit here in a good place”; and you tell the poor man, “Stand there,” or “Sit by my footstool”;
3ma yella tuzzlem ɣer umeṛkanti-nni yelsan llebsa ifazen tefkam-as lqima tennam-as : eyya-d aț-țeqqimeḍ dagi, d amkan n lɛali ; ma d igellil-nni tennam-as : kečč bedd kan dagi neɣ qqim-ed dagi ɣer iḍaṛṛen-nneɣ.
4haven’t you shown partiality among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?
4Ma yella akka, atan txeddmem lxilaf wway gar-awen, eɛni mačči d lbaṭel i d itekken seg yir ixemmimen-nwen ?
5Listen, my beloved brothers. Didn’t God choose those who are poor in this world to be rich in faith, and heirs of the Kingdom which he promised to those who love him?
6But you have dishonored the poor man. Don’t the rich oppress you, and personally drag you before the courts?
6Ma d kunwi tḥeqṛem igellil ! Tqudṛem imeṛkantiyen, wid i kkun yeṭṭalamen i kkun-yeẓẓuɣuṛen ɣer yexxamen n ccṛeɛ.
7Don’t they blaspheme the honorable name by which you are called?
7D nutni daɣen i greggmen isem eɛzizen s wayes i tneddhem ɣer Sidi Ṛebbi.
8However, if you fulfill the royal law, according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” Leviticus 19:18 you do well.
8Ma yella txeddmem ayen i d-tenna ccariɛa n Sidi Ṛebbi : ?emmel wiyaḍ am yiman-ik, d ayen yelhan i txedmem.
9But if you show partiality, you commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
9Meɛna ma yella txeddmem lxilaf ger yemdanen, tdenbem yerna ccariɛa n Sidi Ṛebbi teḥkem fell-awen axaṭer tɛuṣam-ț.
10For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
10Ma yella win i gteddun deg webrid n ccariɛa, ixulef ulamma d yiwen si lumuṛat-is, ihi yerẓa akk lumuṛat n ccariɛa.
11For he who said, “Do not commit adultery,” Exodus 20:14; Deuteronomy 5:18 also said, “Do not commit murder.” Exodus 10:13; Deuteronomy 5:17 Now if you do not commit adultery, but murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
11Win i d-yennan : Ur zennu ara, yenna-d daɣen : Ur tneqqeḍ ara tamgeṛṭ. Ihi ma yella ur tezniḍ ara meɛna tenɣiḍ tamgerṭ, atan teṛẓiḍ ccariɛa n Sidi Ṛebbi.
12So speak, and so do, as men who are to be judged by a law of freedom.
12Ilaq aț-țeẓrem belli Sidi Ṛebbi a kkun-iḥaseb s ccariɛa-ines yețțaken tilelli ɣef kra n wayen i tețmeslayem d wayen i txeddmem ;
13For judgment is without mercy to him who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
13Sidi Ṛebbi ur yețḥunnu ara ɣef win ur nețḥunnu ɣef wiyaḍ meɛna win yețḥunnun ɣef wiyaḍ, ur yețțagad ara ass n lḥisab.
14What good is it, my brothers, if a man says he has faith, but has no works? Can faith save him?
14Ay atmaten, d acu n lfayda ara yesɛu wemdan ma yenna-d umneɣ s Ṛebbi, m'ur t-id-isbeggen ara s lecɣal-is ? Eɛni liman am wagi a t-isellek ?
15And if a brother or sister is naked and in lack of daily food,
15Yezmer lḥal ad yili yiwen seg watmaten neɣ si tyessetmatin xuṣṣen di llebsa, lluẓen ur sɛin ara ayen ara ččen ;
16and one of you tells them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled”; and yet you didn’t give them the things the body needs, what good is it?
16ma yella yiwen deg-wen yenna-yasen kan : « qqimet di lehna, sseḥmut teččem aț-țeṛwum » yili nețța ur sen-yefki ara ayen ḥwaǧen, d acu n lfayda yellan deg imeslayen-agi ?
17Even so faith, if it has no works, is dead in itself.
17Liman ɣer Ṛebbi akka i gella : ma yella ur t-id-sbeggnen ara lecɣal nwen, liman-agi yemmut
18Yes, a man will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith.
18Meɛna ma yenna walebɛaḍ : kečč tesɛiḍ liman ma d nekk xeddmeɣ lecɣal ; nekk a s-rreɣ i wagi : sken-iyi-d liman-inek mbla lecɣal, nekk a k-ed ssekneɣ liman-iw s lecɣal-iw yelhan.
19You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder.
19Tumneḍ belli yiwen n Ṛebbi kan i gellan ? d ayen yelhan ; ula d ccwaṭen umnen yis yerna țergigin seg-s.
20But do you want to know, vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
20Teggumam aț-țfehmem ay imdanen ! Ilaq aț-țeẓrem belli liman mbla lecɣal n lɛali, ur infiɛ ara.
21Wasn’t Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?
21Mmektit-ed Ibṛahim baba-tneɣ yețwaḥesben d aḥeqqi ɣef ddemma n lecɣal-is m'akken i d-iddem mmi-s Isḥaq a t-yezlu d asfel i Sidi Ṛebbi.
22You see that faith worked with his works, and by works faith was perfected;
22Twalam belli liman-is d lecɣal is ddukklen, s lecɣal-is i gennekmal liman-is.
23and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him as righteousness”; Genesis 15:6 and he was called the friend of God.
23Akka i gedṛa wayen d-nnant tira iqedsen fell-as : Ibṛahim yesɛa liman di Ṛebbi, daymi yenneḥsab d aḥeqqi ; yețțusemma d aḥbib n Ṛebbi.
24You see then that by works, a man is justified, and not only by faith.
24Twalam ihi ! Amdan yețban-ed d aḥeqqi zdat Sidi Ṛebbi s lecɣal yelhan mačči kan s liman-is.
25In the same way, wasn’t Rahab the prostitute also justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?
25Ula d Raḥab yellan d yir tameṭṭut, tețwaḥseb ț-țaḥeqqit zdat Sidi Ṛebbi ɣef ddemma n ccɣel-nni n lɛali i texdem asm'akken i tesṭerḥeb s yemceggɛen n at Isṛail mi sen-temla abrid nniḍen ara yawin iwakken ad ṛuḥen.
26For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
26Lǧețța ur nesɛi ara Ṛṛuḥ, temmut, akken daɣen, liman ur nesɛi ara lecɣal yelhan yemmut.
