1 Kings

12

1Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.
1Cô laj Roboam Siquem xban nak aran côeb chixjunileb laj Israel re teßxxakab chokß rey.
2It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt,
2Laj Jeroboam, li ralal laj Nabat, cuan chak Egipto nak quirabi resil xban nak aran cô nak quiêlelic chiru li rey Salomón.
3and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,
3Queßxtakla xbokbal laj Jeroboam. Ut aßan quichal ut chixjunileb laj Israel queßâtinac riqßuin laj Roboam ut queßxye re:
4“Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”
4—Lâ yucuaß kßaxal cau xtaklan saß kabên. Abanan lâat naru tattaklânk chi kßun caßchßinak saß kabên re nak târûk tohilânk caßchßinak riqßuin li cacuil cßanjel quixqßue saß kabên lâ yucuaß. Cui tâbânu chi joßcan, lâo tocßanjelak châcuu, chanqueb.
5He said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” The people departed.
5Ut laj Roboam quixye reheb li tenamit: —Sukßinkex anakcuan ut chiru oxib cutan texchâlk cuißchic cuiqßuin, chan. Ut eb li tenamit queßcôeb.
6King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?”
6Ut li rey Roboam quixpatzß xnaßleb riqßuineb li chêquel cuînk li queßcßanjelac riqßuin lix yucuaß nak toj yoßyo. Quixpatzß reheb: —¿Cßaßru us tinsumeheb cuiß li tenamit? chan.
7They spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”
7Ut eb li chêquel cuînk queßxye: —Cui lâat tattaklânk saß xbêneb li tenamit saß xyâlal, ut cui tâcuâtinaheb riqßuin kßunil âtin, eb aßan junelic teßcßanjelak châcuu, chanqueb.
8But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.
8Abanan laj Roboam incßaß quixbânu li cßaßru quiyeheß re xbaneb li chêquel cuînk. Cô ban riqßuineb li sâj cuînk li xeßqßui rochben, li nequeßcßanjelac chiru.
9He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’”
9Ut quixye reheb: —¿Cßaßru nequeye lâex? ¿Chanru nak tebinsume li tenamit aßin, li yôqueb chixyebal cue nak tincuisi li cacuil trabaj li quiqßueheß saß xbêneb xban lin yucuaß? chan.
10The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;’ you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.
10Eb li sâj cuînk li queßqßui rochben queßxye re laj Roboam: —Joßcaßin tâsumeheb cuiß li tenamit li yôqueb chixtzßâmanquil châcuu nak incßaß cau tattaklânk saß xbêneb. Lâat tâye reheb, “Cui lin yucuaß cau xtaklan saß êbên, lâin kßaxal cuißchic cau tintaklânk saß êbên.
11Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”
11Cui lin yucuaß xqßue li cacuil trabaj saß êbên, lâin kßaxal cuißchic cau li trabaj tinqßue. Lin yucuaß xexsacß chi tzßûm, abanan lâin texinsacß riqßuin li tzßûm li cuan chßîchß saß rußuj,” chaßkat reheb.—
12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”
12Saß rox li cutan eb li tenamit rochben laj Jeroboam queßchal riqßuin li rey Roboam xban nak joßcan quiyeheß reheb xban li rey.
13The king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,
13Li rey Roboam cau quirâtinaheb li tenamit ut incßaß quixbânu li cßaßru quiyeheß re xbaneb li chêquel cuînk.
14and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”
14Li rey quixye reheb li tenamit li cßaßru queßxye li sâj cuînk. Quixye reheb: —Lin yucuaß cau quitaklan saß êbên. Ut lâin kßaxal cuißchic cau tintaklânk saß êbên. Aßan riqßuin tzßûm quexrahobtesi. Abanan lâin riqßuin li tzßûm cuan chßîchß saß rußuj texinrahobtesi, chan.
15So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.
15Li rey incßaß quixbânu li queßxtzßâma li tenamit xban nak ac joßcan chak saß xchßôl li Dios. Ut re ajcuiß nak tâtzßaklok ru li cßaßru quiyeheß re laj Jeroboam, li ralal laj Nabat xban li profeta Ahías Silo xtenamit nak quixye re li cßaßru quixye li Dios.
16When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? Neither do we have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.
16Eb li tenamit queßril nak incßaß quirabi li rey li queßxtzßâma chiru. Eb aßan queßxye re: —¿Cßaßru takara lâo riqßuineb li ralal xcßajol laj David? Lâo mâcßaß junak cßaßak re ru teßxqßue ke. Joßcan nak lâo takil kib kajunes. Ut lâat taklan saß xbêneb li ralal xcßajol laj David, chanqueb. Ut eb aßan queßsukßi saß lix naßajeb.
17But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.
17Joßcan nak laj Roboam quitaklan saß xbêneb laj Israel li cuanqueb aran Judá.
18Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
18Li rey Roboam quixtakla laj Adoram, li xakabanbil chi taklânc saß xbêneb li qßuebileb chi cßanjelac chi cau. Abanan laj Adoram quicamsîc chi pec xbaneb laj Israel. Tojoßnak laj Roboam quiêlelic. Qui-oc saß xcarruaje ut cô Jerusalén.
19So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.
19Joßcaßin nak queßrisi ribeb laj Israel rubel xcuanquil li ralal xcßajol laj David toj chalen anakcuan.
20It happened, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.
20Nak eb laj Israel queßrabi nak quisukßi chak laj Jeroboam, queßxchßutub ribeb. Queßxbok riqßuineb laj Jeroboam ut queßxxakab chokß xreyeb. Caßaj cuiß eb laj Judá queßcana rubel xcuanquil laj Roboam, li ri laj David.
21When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.
21Nak laj Roboam quicuulac Jerusalén quixchßutubeb chixjunileb laj Judá joß eb ajcuiß li ralal xcßajol laj Benjamín. Cuanqueb jun ciento mil riqßuin câcßâl mil chi cuînk li quixchßutubeb re teßxic chi pletic riqßuineb laj Israel, li rech tenamitil. Ut re ajcuiß nak teßsukßîk cuißchic rubel xcuanquil laj Roboam li ralal laj Salomón.
22But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,
22Abanan li Dios quiâtinac riqßuin laj Semaías laj cßanjel chiru, ut quixye re:
23“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,
23—Tat-âtinak riqßuin laj Roboam li ralal laj Salomón, li cuan chokß rey aran Judá, ut riqßuineb li ralal xcßajol laj Judá ut eb li ralal xcßajol laj Benjamín ut chixjunileb li tenamit li cuanqueb aran.
24‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to the word of Yahweh, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Yahweh.
24Tâye reheb, “Joßcaßin xye li Kâcuaß. Mexxic chi pletic riqßuineb laj Israel lê rech tenamitil. Sukßinkex ban saß lê rochoch chêjunilex xban nak lâin xinbânun re li cßaßru quicßulman,” chan li Dios. Ut eb aßan queßxbânu li quixye li Kâcuaß. Queßsukßi saß rochocheb joß quiyeheß reheb xban li Dios.
25Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there, and built Penuel.
25Ut laj Jeroboam quixtakla xyîbanquil chi châbil li tenamit Siquem li cuan saß li tzûl aran Efraín ut quicana chi cuânc aran. Ut quixyîb ajcuiß chi châbil li tenamit Penuel.
26Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.
26Quixye saß xchßôl laj Jeroboam: —Anakcuan mâre li tenamit teßraj sukßîc rubel xcuanquil li ralal xcßajol laj David.
27If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”
27Cui yôkeb chi xic chi mayejac chiru li Kâcuaß saß li templo aran Jerusalén, mâre teßxcßam cuißchic ribeb saß usilal riqßuin laj Roboam li cuan chokß rey aran Judá. Ut tineßxcamsi lâin ut teßxxakab cuißchic laj Roboam chokß xreyeb, chan saß xchßôl laj Jeroboam.
28Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and see your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”
28Joßcan nak laj Jeroboam quixpatzß xnaßleb riqßuin laj qßuehol naßleb ut quixbânu joß queßxye. Quixqßue chi yîbâc cuib li cuacax oro ut quixye reheb li tenamit: —Lâex aj Israel, nabal sut ac xexcuulac chak Jerusalén chi lokßonînc. Joßcan nak anakcuan arin chic texlokßonînk. Arin cuan lê dios. Aßaneb aßin li xeßisin chak êre saß li naßajej Egipto, chan laj Jeroboam reheb.
29He set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.
29Quixyîb xnaßaj jun li cuacax oro aran Bet-el ut li jun chic quixyîb xnaßaj aran Dan.
30This thing became a sin; for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan.
30Ut riqßuin aßan eb laj Israel queßmâcob xban nak queßcôeb aran Bet-el ut aran Dan chi lokßonînc.
31He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.
31Laj Jeroboam quixyîb rochocheb li yîbanbil dios saß eb li naßajej najt xteram. Ut saß xyânkeb li tenamit quixsiqßueb ru li quixxakab chokß aj tij li mâcuaßeb ralal xcßajol laj Leví.
32Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar; he did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.
32Ut quixye nak saß li oßlaju xbe li cuakxak li po teßxbânu jun li nimla ninkße. Chanchan li ninkße li nequeßxbânu aran Judá. Ut quimayejac chiru li artal aran Bet-el chiru li cuacax oro li quixqßue chi yîbâc. Ut quixxakab eb ajcuiß aj tij re teßcßanjelak saß eb li naßajej li najt xteram li quixyîb.Joßcan ut nak laj Jeroboam quixbânu li ninkße reheb laj Israel saß li oßlaju xbe lix cuakxak li po joß quixcßoxla xjunes. Cô aran Bet-el ut quimayejac saß li artal li quixyîb ut quixcßat li pom.
33He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.
33Joßcan ut nak laj Jeroboam quixbânu li ninkße reheb laj Israel saß li oßlaju xbe lix cuakxak li po joß quixcßoxla xjunes. Cô aran Bet-el ut quimayejac saß li artal li quixyîb ut quixcßat li pom.
