Ezra

4

1Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the children of the captivity were building a temple to Yahweh, the God of Israel;
1Eb li xicß nequeßiloc reheb li ralal xcßajol laj Judá ut eb li ralal xcßajol laj Benjamín, queßrabi resil nak eb aßan, li queßchapeß ut queßcßameß chi najt, queßsukßi cuißchic Jerusalén ut yôqueb chixyîbanquil lix templo li Kâcuaß lix Dioseb laj Israel.
2then they drew near to Zerubbabel, and to the heads of fathers’ households, and said to them, “Let us build with you; for we seek your God, as you do; and we sacrifice to him since the days of Esar Haddon king of Assyria, who brought us up here.”
2Queßcuulac riqßuin laj Zorobabel ut riqßuineb li nequeßjolomin re li junjûnk cabal ut queßxye reheb: —Cheqßue ta kalesêns re texkatenkßa chi cablac xban nak lâo nakaqßue ajcuiß xlokßal lê Dios ut nocomayejac chiru chalen saß eb li cutan nak laj Esar-hadón cuan chokß rey aran Asiria, li quitaklan chak ke arin, chanqueb.
3But Zerubbabel, and Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers’ households of Israel, said to them, “You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we ourselves together will build to Yahweh, the God of Israel, as king Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”
3Queßchakßoc laj Zorobabel ut laj Jesúa joßqueb ajcuiß li nequeßjolomin reheb li junjûnk cabal ut queßxye: —Incßaß târûk toêtenkßa chixyîbanquil lix templo li kaDios. Lâo aj Israel takayîb kajunes lix templo li kaDios joß quixye ke laj Ciro, lix reyeb laj Persia, chanqueb.
4Then the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah, and troubled them in building,
4Joßcan nak eb li tenamit li cuanqueb saß li naßajej aßan queßxseßbesi laj Israel re nak tâoc xxiuheb ut teßxcanab xyîbanquil lix templo li Kâcuaß.
5and hired counselors against them, to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.
5Eb li xicß nequeßiloc reheb queßxtacchißi ut queßxtumina ruheb li cuanqueb xcuanquil saß li tenamit re nak eb li ralal xcßajol laj Judá incßaß teßqßuehekß xlesêns chixyîbanquil lix templo li Kâcuaß chalen saß eb li cutan nak laj Ciro cuan chokß xreyeb laj Persia toj saß eb li cutan nak laj Darío qui-oc chokß rey aran Persia.
6In the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, wrote they an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.
6Saß eb li cutan nak laj Asuero qui-oc chokß rey, queßtzßîbac riqßuin re xjitbaleb li cuanqueb Judá ut li cuanqueb Jerusalén.
7In the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of his companions, to Artaxerxes king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in Syrian, and set forth in the Syrian language.
7Ut nak laj Artajerjes cuan chokß rey aran Persia, laj Bislam, laj Mitrídates, laj Tabeel joßqueb ajcuiß li rochben queßtzßîbac riqßuin li rey Artajerjes. Queßxtzßîba li hu saß li râtinobâleb laj arameo ut joß nequeßtzßîbac eb aßan.
8Rehum the chancellor and Shimshai the scribe wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes the king in this sort:
8Laj Rehum li capitán ut laj Simsai laj tzßîb queßtzßîbac riqßuin li rey Artajerjes chixjitbaleb laj judío li cuanqueb Jerusalén.
9then Rehum the chancellor, and Shimshai the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, and the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Shushanchites, the Dehaites, the Elamites,
9Saß li cutan aßan queßtzßîbac laj Rehum ut laj Simsai laj tzßîb rochbeneb laj rakol âtin joßqueb ajcuiß li nequeßtaklan saß xbêneb laj Persia, eb laj Erec, eb laj Babilonia ut eb laj Susa, laj elamita.
10and the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Osnappar brought over, and set in the city of Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River, and so forth, wrote.
10Ut rochbeneb ajcuiß li jalan chic tenamit li queßtaklâc chi cuânc saß li tenamit Samaria xban laj Asnapar li nim xcuanquil ut rochbeneb ajcuiß li queßtaklâc saß eb li naßajej li cuanqueb jun pacßal li nimaß Eufrates.
11This is the copy of the letter that they sent to Artaxerxes the king: Your servants the men beyond the River, and so forth.
11Joßcaßin naxye li hu li queßxtakla riqßuin li rey: —At rey Artajerjes, lâo laj cßanjel châcuu li cuanco jun pacßal li nimaß Eufrates, nakatakla xsahil âchßôl.
12Be it known to the king, that the Jews who came up from you have come to us to Jerusalem; they are building the rebellious and the bad city, and have finished the walls, and repaired the foundations.
12Chanauhak taxak at rey, nak eb laj judío li queßel chak saß li tenamit cuancat cuiß, queßcßulun arin Jerusalén. Yôqueb cuißchic chixyîbanquil li tenamit aßin laj kßetol âtin li incßaß useb xnaßleb. Yôqueb chixyîbanquil li cimiento ut li tzßac.
13Be it known now to the king that if this city is built, and the walls finished, they will not pay tribute, custom, or toll, and in the end it will be hurtful to the kings.
13Chanauhak taxak at rey, cui teßxyîb cuißchic li tenamit aßan, ut cui teßxyîb cuißchic li tzßac, incßaß chic teßxqßue lix tojeb chi moco teßxtoj âcue li cßaßru tento teßxtoj châcuu, at rey, ut nabal li tumin tâsachk.
14Now because we eat the salt of the palace, and it is not appropriate for us to see the king’s dishonor, therefore have we sent and informed the king;
14Xban nak lâo aj cßanjel châcuu ut tojbilo âban, incßaß naru nak yal takil nak teßxkßet li chakßrab li qßuebil âban. Joßcan nak xkatzßîba li hu aßin re xyebal âcue li cßaßru yô chi cßulmânc arin.
15that search may be made in the book of the records of your fathers: so you shall find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful to kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time; for which cause was this city laid waste.
15Naru tâsicß saß eb li hu li xocbil âban, li tzßîbanbil cuiß retalil li cßaßru quicßulman chiruheb lâ xeßtônil yucuaß. Tâcuil saß li hu aßan nak li tenamit Jerusalén, aßan jun tenamit aj kßetol âtin ut incßaß useb xnaßleb. Chßaßaj chokß âcue lâat ut chokß reheb li tenamit. Xban nak incßaß useb xnaßleb, joßcan nak quisacheß ruheb junxil.
16We inform the king that, if this city be built, and the walls finished, by this means you shall have no portion beyond the River.
16Nakaye âcue, at rey, cui li tenamit Jerusalén tâyîbâk cuißchic, ut cui li tzßac li sutsu cuiß li tenamit tâyîbâk cuißchic, li tenamit aßin li cuanqueb jun pacßal li nimaß incßaß chic teßcanâk rubel lâ cuanquil, chanqueb.
17Then the king sent an answer to Rehum the chancellor, and to Shimshai the scribe, and to the rest of their companions who dwell in Samaria, and in the rest of the country beyond the River: Peace, and so forth.
17Ut li rey quixsume lix huheb ut quixye reheb: —Yôquin chixtzßîbanquil li hu aßin re laj Rehum li capitán ut re ajcuiß laj Simsai laj tzßîb, ut reheb ajcuiß li rochbeneb li cuanqueb Samaria. Reheb ajcuiß chixjunileb li cuanqueb aran jun pacßal li nimaß. Nintakla xsahil êchßôl. Chicuânk taxak êriqßuin li tuktûquil usilal.
18The letter which you sent to us has been plainly read before me.
18Xeßril xsaß li hu chi us chicuu li xetakla chak.
19I decreed, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings, and that rebellion and sedition have been made therein.
19Ut xinqßue li chakßrab nak teßxsicß saß li hu joß xeye. Xkatau nak najter li tenamit aßan aj kßetoleb âtin. Queßxkßet li râtineb li rey ut queßnumta saß xbêneb.
20There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, who have ruled over all the country beyond the River; and tribute, custom, and toll, was paid to them.
20Eb li rey li queßcuan aran Jerusalén kßaxal nînkeb xcuanquil. Queßtaklan saß eb li naßajej li cuanqueb jun pacßal li nimaß. Ut queßxqßue xtojeb ut queßxtoj rix li cßaßak re ru tento xtojbal.
21Make a decree now to cause these men to cease, and that this city not be built, until a decree shall be made by me.
21Joßcan ut anakcuan lâex têqßue jun li chakßrab re nak teßxcanab cßanjelac li cuînk aßan ut incßaß chic teßxyîb li tenamit toj tinye reheb nak naru teßxbânu.
22Take heed that you not be slack herein: why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
22Cheqßuehak retal nak têbânu chi us chixjunil. Incßaß takacanabeb chi qßuîc li tenamit aßan yal re teßnumtâk saß kabên lâo li cuanco saß kacuanquil, chan.
23Then when the copy of king Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai the scribe, and their companions, they went in haste to Jerusalem to the Jews, and made them to cease by force and power.
23Nak queßril xsaß li hu li quixtakla li rey Artajerjes, laj Rehum, ut laj Simsai laj tzßîb, joßqueb ajcuiß li rochben, saß junpât queßcôeb Jerusalén. Queßxye reheb laj judío chi puêrs ut chi yô xjoskßileb nak tento teßxcanab li cßanjel li queßxtiquib xbânunquil.Joßcan nak queßxcanab xyîbanquil lix templo li Dios aran Jerusalén. Quicanabâc toj saß li xcab chihab roquic chokß rey laj Darío, lix reyeb laj Persia.
24Then ceased the work of God’s house which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.
24Joßcan nak queßxcanab xyîbanquil lix templo li Dios aran Jerusalén. Quicanabâc toj saß li xcab chihab roquic chokß rey laj Darío, lix reyeb laj Persia.
