9

1Then Job answered,
1Quichakßoc laj Job ut quixye:
2“Truly I know that it is so, but how can man be just with God?
2—Lâin ninnau nak aßan yâl. Abanan, ¿ma naru ta biß tixtîcobresi xchßôl li cuînk chiru li Dios?
3If he is pleased to contend with him, he can’t answer him one time in a thousand.
3Cui junak cuînk târaj xcuechßinquil li Dios mâmin târûk. Cui li Dios tixpatzß jun milak patzßoc re, li cuînk mâ jun târûk tixsume.
4God who is wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who has hardened himself against him, and prospered?
4Li Dios cuan xnaßleb ut nim xcuanquil. Cau rib. Mâ ani târûk tânumtâk chiru.
5He removes the mountains, and they don’t know it, when he overturns them in his anger.
5Nak yô xjoskßil li Dios, narecßasiheb li tzûl saß xnaßajeb. Nequeßukßeß ut mâ ani nanaßoc re ani nabânun re.
6He shakes the earth out of its place. Its pillars tremble.
6Aßan narecßasi li ruchichßochß saß xnaßaj. Ut narecßasi li nacûtun re li ruchichßochß.
7He commands the sun, and it doesn’t rise, and seals up the stars.
7Aßan nabânun re nak li sakße incßaß tâilok. Ut aßan nabânun re nak li chahim incßaß teßlemtzßûnk.
8He alone stretches out the heavens, and treads on the waves of the sea.
8Mâ ani quitenkßan re nak quixyîb li choxa. Ut aßan ajcuiß yal re saß xbên li palau.
9He makes the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, and the rooms of the south.
9Ut aßan ajcuiß quiyîban reheb li chahim, li Osa, li Orión ut Pléyades xcßabaßeb. Ut quixyîb ajcuiß eb li chahim li cuanqueb saß li sur.
10He does great things past finding out; yes, marvelous things without number.
10Aßan kßaxal nim xcuanquil chixbânunquil li sachba chßôlej. Ut mâ ani nataßoc ru li cßaßak re ru naxbânu.
11Behold, he goes by me, and I don’t see him. He passes on also, but I don’t perceive him.
11Li Kâcuaß naru nanumeß chicuu ut incßaß tincuil ru. Naru nanumeß nachß cuiqßuin ut lâin incßaß tinqßue retal.
12Behold, he snatches away. Who can hinder him? Who will ask him, ‘What are you doing?’
12Cui li Dios narisi li cßaßak re ru chiru li junjûnk, ¿ma naru ta biß takaye nak incßaß? ¿Ma cuan ta biß junak târûk tixye nak incßaß us naxbânu?
13“God will not withdraw his anger. The helpers of Rahab stoop under him.
13Nak li Dios najoskßoß moco nanumeß ta lix joskßil chi junpât. Ut eb li kßaxal kßetkßeteb nequeßxcubsi ribeb rubel xcuanquil.
14How much less shall I answer him, And choose my words to argue with him?
14¿Ma naru ta biß tintau âtin re tincuechßi cuiß li Dios?
15Though I were righteous, yet I wouldn’t answer him. I would make supplication to my judge.
15Usta lâin mâcßaß inmâc, incßaß naru tinsume. Aßan narakoc âtin saß inbên. Caßaj cuiß li cßaßru nintzßâma chiru, aßan nak târuxtâna cuu.
16If I had called, and he had answered me, yet I wouldn’t believe that he listened to my voice.
16Usta ta li Dios târabi li cßaßru nintzßâma chiru, incßaß ninpâb nak tixsume ta lin tij.
17For he breaks me with a storm, and multiplies my wounds without cause.
17Tixtakla chak nabal li raylal saß inbên. Chanchan nak nachal li câk-sut-ikß. Ut kßaxal raj cuißchic tânimânk li raylal li yôquin chixcßulbal chi mâcßaß inmâc.
18He will not allow me to catch my breath, but fills me with bitterness.
18Junes rahil chßôlej yôquin chixcßulbal. Incßaß niquinixqßue chi hilânc caßchßinak.
19If it is a matter of strength, behold, he is mighty! If of justice, ‘Who,’ says he, ‘will summon me?’
19Cui toâtinak chirix ani nim xcuanquil, aßan li kßaxal nim xcuanquil. ¿Ma naru ta biß xcßambal aßan riqßuin laj rakol âtin? Aßan ban li narakoc âtin saß tîquilal.
20Though I am righteous, my own mouth shall condemn me. Though I am blameless, it shall prove me perverse.
20Cui lâin tinye nak châbilin ut tîc inchßôl, aß ajcuiß li cßaßru tinye, aßan tâyehok re nak cuan inmâc ut incßaß us innaßleb.
21I am blameless. I don’t respect myself. I despise my life.
21Lâin mâcßaß inmâc. Abanan aßan mâcßaß nacuaj re. Xintitzß ajcuiß chi cuânc saß ruchichßochß.
22“It is all the same. Therefore I say he destroys the blameless and the wicked.
22Lâin nincßoxla nak chixjunil juntakßêt. Li Dios naxsach ru li cuan xmâc ut naxsach ajcuiß ru li mâcßaß xmâc.
23If the scourge kills suddenly, he will mock at the trial of the innocent.
23Cui junak cristian mâcßaß xmâc nacam chi mâcßaß saß xchßôl xban li raylal naxcßul, li Dios naxseße li raylal li naxcßul.
24The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If not he, then who is it?
24Aßan naxkßaxtesi li ruchichßochß saß rukßeb li incßaß useb xnaßleb. Ut aßan ajcuiß nabânun re nak eb li nequeßrakoc âtin incßaß nequeßxbânu saß xyâlal. Cui mâcuaß aßan nabânun re, ¿ani chic nabânun re chi joßcanan?
25“Now my days are swifter than a runner. They flee away, they see no good,
25Saß junpât yô chi numecß lin cutan. Yôquin chi osocß chi incßaß xincuan saß sahil chßôlej.
26They have passed away as the swift ships, as the eagle that swoops on the prey.
26Yô chi xic lin yußam joß nak nequeßxic li jucub saß junpât, malaj ut joß nak naxcut rib li cßuch saß xbên lix tib.
27If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face, and cheer up;’
27Cui lâin tinye nak tincanab xcßoxlanquil li raylal li yôquin chixcßulbal ut tincßut nak sa saß inchßôl,
28I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that you will not hold me innocent.
28abanan chixjunil li raylal naxqßue cuißchic inxiu. Lâin ninnau nak li Dios incßaß tixpâb nak mâcßaß inmâc.
29I shall be condemned. Why then do I labor in vain?
29Cui aßan naxye nak lâin cuan inmâc, ¿cßaßru aj e nak tinyal inkße chixyebal nak mâcßaß inmâc?
30If I wash myself with snow, and cleanse my hands with lye,
30Usta xinchßaj cuib chi us riqßuin xabôn, incßaß naru na-el lin mâc. Ut usta ninchßaj cuib riqßuin li lejía, toj cuan ajcuiß lin mâc.
31yet you will plunge me in the ditch. My own clothes shall abhor me.
31Chanchan nak li Dios tinixcut saß li jul cuan tzßaj chi saß, ut li cuakß tâyibokß xban intzßajnil.
32For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, that we should come together in judgment.
32Li Dios mâcuaß yal cuînk joß lâin re nak naru tinsume ut tincßam riqßuin junak aj rakol âtin.
33There is no umpire between us, that might lay his hand on us both.
33Us raj nak cuan ta junak aj rakol âtin cuan xcuanquil chi rakoc âtin saß kabên saß cuibal.
34Let him take his rod away from me. Let his terror not make me afraid;
34Ut tixye raj re li Dios nak tixcanab xqßuebal raylal saß inbên ut tixcanab xqßuebal inxiu.Ut naru raj chic tinâtinak chi incßaß tinxucuak ut tinye nak mâcßaß inmâc.
35then I would speak, and not fear him, for I am not so in myself.
35Ut naru raj chic tinâtinak chi incßaß tinxucuak ut tinye nak mâcßaß inmâc.
