¹Therefore you shall love Yahweh your God, and keep his instructions, and his statutes, and his ordinances, and his commandments, always.

¹Så skal du da elske Herren din Gud og ta vare på det han vil ha varetatt, hans lover og hans forskrifter og hans bud, alle dager.

²Know this day: for I don’t speak with your children who have not known, and who have not seen the chastisement of Yahweh your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm,

²Og I skal idag - for det er ikke eders barn jeg taler med, de som ikke kjenner det og ikke har sett det - komme I hu Herrens, eders Guds optuktelse, hans storhet, hans sterke hånd og hans utrakte arm

³and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt to Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and to all his land;

³og hans tegn og gjerninger, som han gjorde i Egypten med Farao, kongen i Egypten, og med hele hans land,

⁴and what he did to the army of Egypt, to their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how Yahweh has destroyed them to this day;

⁴og hvad han gjorde med egypternes hær, med deres hester og vogner, da han lot det Røde Havs vann strømme sammen over dem mens de forfulgte eder, og lot dem gå til grunne, så ingen har sett dem mere til denne dag,

⁵and what he did to you in the wilderness, until you came to this place;

⁵og hvad han gjorde med eder i ørkenen inntil I kom til dette sted,

⁶and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel:

⁶og hvad han gjorde med Datan og Abiram, sønnene til Eliab, Rubens sønn, da jorden lukket op sin munn og midt iblandt hele Israel slukte dem og deres hus og deres telter og hvert liv som var i følge med dem;

⁷but your eyes have seen all the great work of Yahweh which he did.

⁷for I har selv med egne øine sett alle de storverk Herren har gjort.

⁸Therefore you shall keep all the commandment which I command you this day, that you may be strong, and go in and possess the land, where you go over to possess it;

⁸Ta da vare på alle de bud jeg gir dig idag, forat I kan bli sterke og komme inn og eie det land I nu drar over til og skal ta i eie,

⁹and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give to them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey.

⁹og forat I kan få leve lenge i det land Herren tilsvor eders fedre å ville gi dem og deres ætt, et land som flyter med melk og honning.

¹⁰For the land, where you go in to possess it, isn’t as the land of Egypt, that you came out from, where you sowed your seed, and watered it with your foot, as a garden of herbs;

¹⁰For det land du kommer inn i og skal ta i eie, er ikke som Egyptens land, som I drog ut fra, hvor du sådde din sæd og så vannet jorden med din fot som en kålhave.

¹¹but the land, where you go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys which drinks water of the rain of the sky,

¹¹Men det land I drar over til og skal ta i eie, er et land med fjell og daler, som drikker vann av himmelens regn,

¹²a land which Yahweh your God cares for: the eyes of Yahweh your God are always on it, from the beginning of the year even to the end of the year.

¹²et land som Herren din Gud bærer omsorg for; alltid hviler Herrens, din Guds øine på det, fra årets begynnelse til dets ende.

¹³It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to my commandments which I command you this day, to love Yahweh your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul,

¹³Dersom I nu er lydige mot mine bud, som jeg gir eder idag, så I elsker Herren eders Gud og tjener ham av alt eders hjerte og av all eders sjel,

¹⁴that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, and your new wine, and your oil.

¹⁴da vil jeg gi eders land regn i rette tid, høstregn og vårregn, og du skal samle i hus ditt korn og din most og din olje,

¹⁵I will give grass in your fields for your livestock, and you shall eat and be full.

¹⁵og for ditt fe vil jeg gi dig gress på dine marker, og du skal ete og bli mett.

¹⁶Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

¹⁶Ta eder i vare at eders hjerte ikke dåres, så I viker av og dyrker andre guder og tilbeder dem,

¹⁷and the anger of Yahweh be kindled against you, and he shut up the sky, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and you perish quickly from off the good land which Yahweh gives you.

¹⁷og Herrens vrede optendes mot eder, og han lukker himmelen til, så det ikke kommer regn, og jorden ikke gir sin grøde, og I hastig blir utryddet av det gode land Herren gir eder.

¹⁸Therefore you shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and you shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for symbols between your eyes.

¹⁸Så legg eder da disse mine ord på hjerte og på sinne og bind dem som et tegn på eders hånd og la dem være som en minneseddel på eders panne

¹⁹You shall teach them your children, talking of them, when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

¹⁹og lær eders barn dem ved å tale om dem når du sitter i ditt hus, og når du går på veien, og når du legger dig, og når du står op,

²⁰You shall write them on the door posts of your house, and on your gates;

²⁰og skriv dem på dørstolpene i ditt hus og på dine porter,

²¹that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth.

²¹forat eders og eders barns dager må bli mange i det land som Herren tilsvor eders fedre å ville gi dem, og I må leve der like så lenge som himmelen hvelver sig over jorden.

²²For if you shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Yahweh your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cling to him;

²²For tar I vare på alle disse bud som jeg byder eder å holde, så I elsker Herren eders Gud og vandrer på alle hans veier og holder fast ved ham,

²³then will Yahweh drive out all these nations from before you, and you shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves.

²³da skal Herren drive ut alle disse folk for eder, og I skal jage bort folk som er større og tallrikere enn I selv.

²⁴Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even to the hinder sea shall be your border.

²⁴Hvert sted I treder på med eders fot, skal høre eder til; fra ørkenen og Libanon, fra den store elv, elven Frat, og til havet i vest skal eders landemerker nå.

²⁵No man shall be able to stand before you: Yahweh your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you on all the land that you shall tread on, as he has spoken to you.

²⁵Ingen skal kunne stå sig imot eder; redsel for eder og frykt for eder skal Herren eders Gud la komme over hele det land I treder på, således som han har sagt til eder.

²⁶Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse:

²⁶Se, jeg legger idag frem for eder velsignelse og forbannelse:

²⁷the blessing, if you shall listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, which I command you this day;

²⁷velsignelsen, så sant I lyder Herrens, eders Guds bud, som jeg gir eder idag,

²⁸and the curse, if you shall not listen to the commandments of Yahweh your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which you have not known.

²⁸og forbannelsen, dersom I ikke lyder Herrens, eders Guds bud, men viker av fra den vei jeg idag byder eder å vandre på, og følger andre guder, som I ikke kjenner.

²⁹It shall happen, when Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, that you shall set the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal.

²⁹Og når Herren din Gud fører dig inn i det land du nu drar inn i og skal ta i eie, da skal du lyse velsignelsen på fjellet Garisim og forbannelsen på fjellet Ebal.

³⁰Aren’t they beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?

³⁰Disse to fjell ligger, som i vet, på hin side Jordan bortenfor veien som bærer mot vest, i kana'anittenes land, de som bor i ødemarken midt imot Gilgal, ved Mores terebintelund.

³¹For you are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and you shall possess it, and dwell therein.

³¹For nu går I over Jordan for å komme inn og ta det land i eie som Herren eders Gud gir eder, og I skal ta det i eie og bo der.

³²You shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day.

³²Akt da vel på at I holder alle de bud og lover som jeg idag legger frem for eder!
