¹These are the statutes and the ordinances which you shall observe to do in the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess it, all the days that you live on the earth.

¹Dette er de bud og de lover I skal akte på å leve efter i det land som Herren, dine fedres Gud, har gitt dig til eie, alle de dager I lever på jorden:

²You shall surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you shall dispossess served their gods, on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every green tree:

²I skal ødelegge alle de steder hvor hedningene som I skal drive bort, har dyrket sine guder, på de høie fjell og på haugene og under hvert grønt tre;

³and you shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and burn their Asherim with fire; and you shall cut down the engraved images of their gods; and you shall destroy their name out of that place.

³I skal rive ned deres altere og slå deres billedstøtter sønder, og deres Astarte-billeder skal I brenne op med ild, og de utskårne billeder av deres guder skal I hugge i stykker og utslette deres navn fra det sted hvor de stod.

⁴You shall not do so to Yahweh your God.

⁴I skal ikke gjøre som de når I dyrker Herren eders Gud,

⁵But to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, even to his habitation you shall seek, and there you shall come;

⁵men til det sted Herren eders Gud utvelger av alle eders stammer for å la sitt navn bo der, dit skal I søke, og dit skal du komme.

⁶and there you shall bring your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, and your tithes, and the wave offering of your hand, and your vows, and your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock:

⁶Og dit skal I føre eders brennoffer og eders slaktoffer og eders tiender og eders henders gaver og eders lovede offer og eders frivillige offer og det førstefødte av eders storfe og av eders småfe,

⁷and there you shall eat before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, in which Yahweh your God has blessed you.

⁷og der skal I ete for Herrens, eders Guds åsyn og glede eder med eders husfolk over alt det I har vunnet ved eders arbeid, alt det Herren din Gud har velsignet dig med.

⁸You shall not do after all the things that we do here this day, every man whatever is right in his own eyes;

⁸I skal ikke gjøre således som vi gjør her idag, enhver det som tykkes ham å være rett;

⁹for you haven’t yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which Yahweh your God gives you.

⁹for I er ennu ikke kommet inn til den hvile og den arv Herren din Gud gir dig.

¹⁰But when you go over the Jordan, and dwell in the land which Yahweh your God causes you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all your enemies around you, so that you dwell in safety;

¹⁰Men når I er gått over Jordan og bor i det land Herren eders Gud gir eder til arv, og han har gitt eder ro for alle eders fiender rundt om, så I bor trygt,

¹¹then it shall happen that to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, and your sacrifices, your tithes, and the wave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to Yahweh.

¹¹da skal det sted som Herren eders Gud utvelger for å la sitt navn bo der, være det eneste sted hvorhen I skal føre alt det jeg byder eder: eders brennoffere og eders slaktoffere, eders tiender og eders henders gaver og alle eders utvalgte offer som I lover Herren.

¹²You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God, you, and your sons, and your daughters, and your male servants, and your female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you.

¹²Og I skal være glade for Herrens, eders Guds åsyn, I og eders sønner og eders døtre og eders tjenere og eders tjenestepiker og levitten som bor hos eder; for han har ingen del eller arv med eder.

¹³Take heed to yourself that you don’t offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see;

¹³Vogt dig at du ikke ofrer dine brennoffer på noget sted som du selv utser dig!

¹⁴but in the place which Yahweh shall choose in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.

¹⁴Men på det sted som Herren utvelger i en av dine stammer, der skal du ofre dine brennoffer, og der skal du gjøre alt det jeg byder dig.

¹⁵Notwithstanding, you may kill and eat flesh within all your gates, after all the desire of your soul, according to the blessing of Yahweh your God which he has given you: the unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle, and as of the hart.

¹⁵Men ellers kan du efter ditt hjertes lyst slakte og ete kjøtt rundt om i alle dine byer, efter som Herren din Gud gir dig sin velsignelse; den urene så vel som den rene kan ete av det som om det var et rådyr eller en hjort.

¹⁶Only you shall not eat the blood; you shall pour it out on the earth as water.

¹⁶Men blodet må I ikke ete; I skal helle det ut på jorden likesom vann.

¹⁷You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain, or of your new wine, or of your oil, or the firstborn of your herd or of your flock, nor any of your vows which you vow, nor your freewill offerings, nor the wave offering of your hand;

¹⁷Hjemme i dine byer må du ikke ete tienden av ditt korn eller av din most eller av din olje, heller ikke det førstefødte av ditt storfe eller av ditt småfe, heller ikke noget av dine lovede offer eller dine frivillige offer eller din hånds gaver.

¹⁸but you shall eat them before Yahweh your God in the place which Yahweh your God shall choose, you, and your son, and your daughter, and your male servant, and your female servant, and the Levite who is within your gates: and you shall rejoice before Yahweh your God in all that you put your hand to.

¹⁸Men for Herrens, din Guds åsyn skal du ete det på det sted Herren din Gud utvelger, du og din sønn og din datter og din tjener og din tjenestepike og levitten som bor hos dig; og du skal glede dig for Herrens, din Guds åsyn over alt det du har vunnet ved ditt arbeid.

¹⁹Take heed to yourself that you don’t forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land.

¹⁹Vokt dig at du ikke glemmer levitten, så lenge du lever i ditt land!

²⁰When Yahweh your God shall enlarge your border, as he has promised you, and you shall say, “I want to eat meat,” because your soul desires to eat meat; you may eat meat, after all the desire of your soul.

²⁰Når Herren din Gud utvider dine landemerker, således som han har tilsagt dig, og du sier: Jeg vilde gjerne ete kjøtt, fordi du har lyst til å ete kjøtt, da kan du ete kjøtt efter ditt hjertes lyst.

²¹If the place which Yahweh your God shall choose, to put his name there, is too far from you, then you shall kill of your herd and of your flock, which Yahweh has given you, as I have commanded you; and you may eat within your gates, after all the desire of your soul.

²¹Hvis du har lang vei til det sted Herren din Gud utvelger for å la sitt navn bo der, da kan du gjøre som jeg har befalt dig, og slakte av ditt storfe og av ditt småfe, som Herren har gitt dig, og du kan ete det hjemme i dine byer efter ditt hjertes lyst.

²²Even as the gazelle and as the hart is eaten, so you shall eat of it: the unclean and the clean may eat of it alike.

²²Men du skal ete det som en eter et rådyr eller en hjort; både den urene og den rene kan ete det.

²³Only be sure that you don’t eat the blood: for the blood is the life; and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.

²³Hold bare fast ved at du ikke eter blodet! For blodet er sjelen, og du skal ikke ete sjelen sammen med kjøttet.

²⁴You shall not eat it; you shall pour it out on the earth as water.

²⁴Du skal ikke ete det; du skal helle det ut på jorden likesom vann.

²⁵You shall not eat it; that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, when you shall do that which is right in the eyes of Yahweh.

²⁵Et det ikke, så skal det gå dig vel og dine barn efter dig, når du gjør det som er rett i Herrens øine.

²⁶Only your holy things which you have, and your vows, you shall take, and go to the place which Yahweh shall choose:

²⁶Men de hellige gaver som du vil gi, og dine lovede offer skal du ta og føre med dig til det sted som Herren utvelger.

²⁷and you shall offer your burnt offerings, the flesh and the blood, on the altar of Yahweh your God; and the blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on the altar of Yahweh your God; and you shall eat the flesh.

²⁷Og du skal ofre dine brennoffer, både kjøttet og blodet, på Herrens, din Guds alter; og av dine slaktoffer* skal blodet helles ut på Herrens, din Guds alter, men kjøttet kan du ete. / {* d.e. takkoffer.}

²⁸Observe and hear all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you forever, when you do that which is good and right in the eyes of Yahweh your God.

²⁸Akt vel på å lyde alle disse bud som jeg gir dig, forat det må gå dig vel og dine barn efter dig til evig tid, når du gjør det som godt og rett er i Herrens, din Guds øine.

²⁹When Yahweh your God shall cut off the nations from before you, where you go in to dispossess them, and you dispossess them, and dwell in their land;

²⁹Når Herren din Gud har utryddet folkene for dig der hvor du nu kommer for å drive dem bort, og du har drevet dem bort og bor i deres land,

³⁰take heed to yourself that you not be ensnared to follow them, after that they are destroyed from before you; and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, “How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise.”

³⁰da vokt dig at du ikke lar dig dåre og følger i deres spor, efterat de er utryddet for dig, og at du ikke spør efter deres guder og sier: Hvorledes tjente disse folk sine guder? Således vil også jeg gjøre.

³¹You shall not do so to Yahweh your God: for every abomination to Yahweh, which he hates, have they done to their gods; for even their sons and their daughters do they burn in the fire to their gods.

³¹Du skal ikke gjøre som de når du dyrker Herren din Gud; for alt det som er en vederstyggelighet for Herren, og som han hater, det gjør de for sine guder; endog sine sønner og sine døtre brenner de i ilden til ære for sine guder.

³²Whatever thing I command you, that you shall observe to do: you shall not add thereto, nor diminish from it.

³²Alt det jeg byder eder, skal I akte vel på å gjøre; du skal ikke legge noget til og ikke ta noget fra.
