¹Now David was old and full of days; and he made Solomon his son king over Israel.

¹ هنگامی‌که داوود پیر و سالخورده شد، پسر خود سلیمان را به عنوان پادشاه اسرائیل برگزید.

²He gathered together all the princes of Israel, with the priests and the Levites.

² داوود تمام رهبران اسرائیل، کاهنان و لاویان را جمع نمود

³The Levites were numbered from thirty years old and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty-eight thousand.

³ و بعد امر کرد که از لاویان سی ساله و بالاتر سرشماری کنند. تعداد تمام آنها سی و هشت هزار نفر بود.

⁴David said, “Of these, twenty-four thousand were to oversee the work of the house of Yahweh; six thousand were officers and judges;

⁴ پادشاه بیست و چهار هزار نفر را برای ادارهٔ کارهای بزرگ خداوند و شش هزار نفر را برای دادرسی و مأمور اجرا گماشت،

⁵four thousand were doorkeepers; and four thousand praised Yahweh with the instruments which I made, for giving praise.”

⁵ چهار هزار نفر برای نگهبانی دروازه‌ها و چهار هزار نفر با وسایل موسیقی که پادشاه تهیّه دیده بود برای ستایش خداوند گمارده شدند.

⁶David divided them into divisions according to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

⁶ داوود لاویان را طبق خاندانهای ایشان به سه گروه تقسیم کرد: جرشون، قهات و مراری.

⁷Of the Gershonites: Ladan and Shimei.

⁷ پسران جرشون، لعدان و شمعی بودند.

⁸The sons of Ladan: Jehiel the chief, and Zetham, and Joel, three.

⁸ لعدان سه پسر داشت: یحیئیل، زیتام و یوئیل.

⁹The sons of Shimei: Shelomoth, and Haziel, and Haran, three. These were the heads of the fathers’ households of Ladan.

⁹ پسران شمعی: شلومیت، حزیئیل و هاران. این سه نفر رهبران خاندان لعدان بودند.

¹⁰The sons of Shimei: Jahath, Zina, and Jeush, and Beriah. These four were the sons of Shimei.

¹⁰ پسران شمعی: یَحَت، زینا، یعوش و بریعه. این چهار نفر پسران شمعی بودند.

¹¹Jahath was the chief, and Zizah the second: but Jeush and Beriah didn’t have many sons; therefore they became a fathers’ house in one reckoning.

¹¹ یحت، اول بود و زینا دوم. یعوش و بریعه پسران بسیار نداشتند، به همین دلیل یک خاندان محسوب شدند.

¹²The sons of Kohath: Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel, four.

¹² قهات چهار پسر داشت: عمرام، یصهار، حبرون و عُزیئیل.

¹³The sons of Amram: Aaron and Moses; and Aaron was separated, that he should sanctify the most holy things, he and his sons, forever, to burn incense before Yahweh, to minister to him, and to bless in his name, forever.

¹³ پسر بزرگ او عمرام پدر هارون و موسی بود. هارون و نسل او برگزیده شدند تا برای همیشه مسئول اشیاء مقدّس و سوزاندن بُخور در مراسم نیایشی برای خداوند و خدمت به او و برکت دادن به مردم به نام او باشند.

¹⁴But as for Moses the man of God, his sons were named among the tribe of Levi.

¹⁴ امّا پسران موسی، نزد خداوند جزو طایفهٔ لاوی بودند. موسی دو پسر داشت: جرشوم و الیعزر.

¹⁵The sons of Moses: Gershom and Eliezer.

¹⁵ در میان خانوادهٔ جرشوم، شبوئیل رهبر بود.

¹⁶The sons of Gershom: Shebuel the chief.

¹⁶ الیعزر تنها یک پسر داشت، رحبیا، امّا رحبیا فرزندان بسیاری داشت.

¹⁷The sons of Eliezer were: Rehabiah the chief; and Eliezer had no other sons; but the sons of Rehabiah were very many.

¹⁷ پسران یصهار: شلومیت رهبر بود.

¹⁸The sons of Izhar: Shelomith the chief.

¹⁸ پسران حبرون: یریا اول، امریا دوم، یحزیئیل سوم و یقمعام چهارم بود.

¹⁹The sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, and Jekameam the fourth.

¹⁹ پسران عُزیئیل: میکا اول و یشیا دوم بود.

²⁰The sons of Uzziel: Micah the chief, and Isshiah the second.

²⁰ پسران مراری محلی و موشی. پسران محلی: العازار و قیس

²¹The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Mahli: Eleazar and Kish.

²¹ العازار مرد و پسری نداشت و فقط چند دختر داشت. دختران او با پسر عموهایشان که پسران قیس بودند، ازدواج کردند.

²²Eleazar died, and had no sons, but daughters only: and their brothers the sons of Kish took them as wives.

²² موشی سه پسر داشت محلی، عادر و یریموت.

²³The sons of Mushi: Mahli, and Eder, and Jeremoth, three.

²³ ایشان نسل طایفهٔ لاوی بودند با خاندان و خانواده. نام هر کدام ثبت شده بود. همهٔ این افراد از بیست سال و بزرگتر در انجام کارهای معبد بزرگ سهیم بودند.

²⁴These were the sons of Levi after their fathers’ houses, even the heads of the fathers’ houses of those who were counted individually, in the number of names by their polls, who did the work for the service of the house of Yahweh, from twenty years old and upward.

²⁴ داوود گفت: «خداوند خدای اسرائیل به قوم خود صلح و آرامش داده است و او خودش برای همیشه در اورشلیم خواهد زیست.

²⁵For David said, “Yahweh, the God of Israel, has given rest to his people; and he dwells in Jerusalem forever.

²⁵ پس از این لازم نیست که لاویان خیمهٔ مقدّس خداوند و وسایل آن را برای خدمت حمل کنند.»

²⁶Also the Levites will no longer need to carry the tabernacle and all its vessels for its service.”

²⁶ پس طبق آخرین فرمان داوود همهٔ لاویان بعد از رسیدن به سن بیست سالگی برای خدمت در معبد بزرگ ثبت نام شدند.

²⁷For by the last words of David the sons of Levi were numbered, from twenty years old and upward.

²⁷ وظیفهٔ لاویان کمک به فرزندان هارون در خدمت در معبد بزرگ بود، نگهداری از حیاط و اتاقها، پاک نگه‌داشتن وسایل مقدّس، و هر کاری که برای خداوند خدا لازم بود.

²⁸For their office was to wait on the sons of Aaron for the service of the house of Yahweh, in the courts, and in the rooms, and in the purifying of all holy things, even the work of the service of God’s house;

²⁸ نان اهدایی به خدا، آردی که برای هدایا مصرف می‌شد، نان فطیر پختن، مخلوط کردن روغن زیتون با آرد، وزن کردن و اندازه‌گیری هدایا به معبد بزرگ، از مسئولیّت‌های لاویان بود.

²⁹for the show bread also, and for the fine flour for a meal offering, whether of unleavened wafers, or of that which is baked in the pan, or of that which is soaked, and for all kinds of measure and size;

²⁹ آنها همچنین وظیفه داشتند که هر صبح و شام برای سرود حمد و سپاس در حضور خداوند حاضر شوند.

³⁰and to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahweh, and likewise in the evening;

³⁰ در مراسم گذرانیدن قربانی‌ها -‌در روزهای سبت، ماه نو و عیدها- با تعداد معیّنی، مطابق حُکم شریعت، برای خدمت به حضور خداوند حاضر باشند. همچنین از خیمهٔ مقدّس خداوند و معبد بزرگ مراقبت و به کاهنان پسران هارون و خویشاوندان ایشان در همهٔ کارهای معبد بزرگ کمک کنند.

³¹and to offer all burnt offerings to Yahweh, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts, in number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahweh;

³¹ همچنین از خیمهٔ مقدّس خداوند و معبد بزرگ مراقبت و به کاهنان پسران هارون و خویشاوندان ایشان در همهٔ کارهای معبد بزرگ کمک کنند.

³²and that they should keep the duty of the Tent of Meeting, and the duty of the holy place, and the duty of the sons of Aaron their brothers, for the service of the house of Yahweh.
