¹That which was from the beginning, that which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we saw, and our hands touched, concerning the Word of life

¹ ما دربارهٔ كلمهٔ حیات به شما می‌نویسیم -كلامی كه از ازل بود و ما آن را شنیده و با چشمان خود دیده‌ایم - ‌آری، ما آن را دیده‌ایم و دستهایمان آن را لمس كرده است.

²(and the life was revealed, and we have seen, and testify, and declare to you the life, the eternal life, which was with the Father, and was revealed to us);

² آن حیات ظاهر شد و ما آن را دیدیم. پس ما دربارهٔ آن شهادت می‌دهیم و از حیات جاودانی كه با پدر بود و به ما شناسانیده شد، شما را آگاه می‌سازیم.

³that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us. Yes, and our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

³ آری، آنچه را كه ما دیده‌ و شنیده‌ایم به شما اعلام می‌کنیم تا در اتّحادی كه ما با پدر و پسر او عیسی مسیح داریم، شما هم با ما شریک شوید.

⁴And we write these things to you, that our joy may be fulfilled.

⁴ این را می‌نویسیم تا شادی ما كامل گردد.

⁵This is the message which we have heard from him and announce to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

⁵ این است پیامی كه ما از او شنیدیم و به شما اعلام می‌کنیم: خدا نور است و هیچ ظلمت در او نیست.

⁶If we say that we have fellowship with him and walk in the darkness, we lie, and don’t tell the truth.

⁶ پس اگر بگوییم با او متّحد هستیم و در‌عین‌حال در ظلمت زندگی می‌کنیم، معلوم می‌شود كه گفتار ما دروغ و كردار ما نادرست است.

⁷But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

⁷ امّا اگر در نور به سر می‌بریم -‌همان‌طور كه خدا در نور است- در آن صورت با یكدیگر اتّحاد داریم و خون عیسی، پسر او، ما را از همهٔ گناهانمان پاک می‌سازد.

⁸If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

⁸ اگر بگوییم كه بی‌گناه هستیم، خود را فریب می‌دهیم و از حقیقت دور هستیم.

⁹If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

⁹ امّا اگر ما به گناهان خود اعتراف نماییم، می‌توانیم به او اعتماد كنیم؛ زیرا او به حق عمل می‌کند. او گناهان ما را می‌آمرزد و ما را از همهٔ خطاهایمان پاک می‌سازد. اگر بگوییم كه هرگز مرتكب گناهی نشده‌ایم، خدا را دروغگو شمرده‌ایم و از كلام او کاملاً بی‌خبر هستیم.

¹⁰If we say that we haven’t sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

¹⁰ اگر بگوییم كه هرگز مرتكب گناهی نشده‌ایم، خدا را دروغگو شمرده‌ایم و از كلام او کاملاً بی‌خبر هستیم.
